Avatar f tn I'm pregnant and the baby has svt.. So I'm taking it for baby lol it seems to be working for him so far! They did an echo today.
Avatar f tn However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
4356842 tn?1353312209 at the time I was just doing what I was told as far as how to treat it. I am going to talk to my dr about trying a different med because this digoxin is alright for the most part but i still get attacks not as small as yours but less than a minute. I really don't like the heat intolerance, and how it overall makes me feel. I want to be able to go to the beach next year and actually get a tan!
183222 tn?1375334552 digoxin is a very good med for svt my daughter is currently taking digoxin in additon to coreg, inspra and vasotec and the amount of svt is down considerably and was the only medication that has improved her overall condition she had an ablation but it was unsuccessful as they were not able to ablate on the left due a mass at the mitral-aortic junction and all pac's and svt are coming from the left holter before digoxin showed 749 svt after digoxin was added svt down to 166
Avatar n tn 36 yr old female, who has had heart palpitations for over 6 yrs now. I have been taking digoxin .25mg to help control them and 2 baby aspirin daily. I have just started waking out of a SOUND sleep with heart rate in excess of 126 bpm w/ bp146/98 (last night). I will then start shaking. I did goto the ER a few weeks back when my heart rate was 158 bpm and a bp of 198/110, the EMT said I was having an anxiety attack.
4356842 tn?1353312209 I am worried about having a bad reaction to the new meds, is it common for that to happen or are the meds for svt relatively safe and give people no problems. also in your opinions what is the best meds to be on? I would just like to get some insight before my appointment.
Avatar n tn 2 week old premature infant has recurrent SVT/ Atrial Flutter and has been loaded on Digoxin and Amiodarone. The plan is to continue amiodarone for another 6 months; is this safe for him?
Avatar f tn Here's my completely unprofessional opinion on what I know about digoxin, and I took it for a number of years as a kid for SVT. It's an old drug that's been used literally for centuries. I took it back in 1957. It's inherently toxic and if that fact was not enough to curtail its use, there's evidence that suggests the drug, even at dosages normally considered safe, can cause visual problems, serious skin rashes, and may significantly aggravate asthma.
Avatar f tn I have been it the hospital for 10 days now and they have tired different meds. Digoxin and Flecainide. They didnt work. Has anyone gone through this and could be of some support??
Avatar m tn Any experience/opinion would be greatly appreciated. Also, what type of study usually should be done for diagnosis of the SVT. Should she have an Electrophysiology Study?
Avatar m tn i have been researching the treatment options for my 2 year old who has svt. he has been on the max dose of digoxin for the last 8 or 9 months with little effect. his doctor has suggested doing a catheter ablation on him, given his wieght of over 15 kilos. the other consideration is the number of times he has been in the e.r and p.i.c.u and the heart rate of 250 bpm and higher when in svt. should we consider rfa at this time?
162069 tn?1224677411 when we began this journey with her new drs at Univ of Mich she had 738 SVT, then with the start of digoxin they were 238 now there is none...
Avatar m tn Thanks for your input. She has been taking Digoxin for 5 years. Her episodes are 1-2 a month and they are very frightening to her. We can convert them now by turning her upside down. They believe she does have avnrt. But, with the same number of episodes before and after medication, I am at minimum thinking the medication isn't helpful at all and worry more about the effects of it, long term. So, we will be in prayer about what to do. Thanks for taking time to respond.
Avatar f tn My daughter will be 4 weeks old this week, she had SVT in utero and I took digoxin while pregnant and as soon as she was born she was placed on it. We went to the cardiologist yesterday and they did an echo and told us that she has pulmonary artery stenosis, (not sever) but definately audible....she was also born with a very short perineum...my question is this....is that somesort of syndrom or condition that could be playing the part in the combination of these problems for her?...
705586 tn?1314224932 My doctor took me off meds and I was SVT clear for about 4 years. This past Thanksgiving I had an SVT but was also sick with a bad gall bladder. It seems that when my stomach gets full of gass/ or is full it can trigger an event. I had another SVT in April at work after riding my bike and getting my heart rate up to 125. Is it more dangerous to exercise induced SVT's?
4356842 tn?1353312209 My Dr took me off the digoxin, last time I took it was the day before my surgery. That has had a HUGE impact on my life. No more heat intolerance, I no longer feel like crap for no reason either. My anxiety has gone down drastically, almost non existent. I've got my self a job working at a teen night club Lol. My life has gone from 0-60 in 2 months and its absolutely crazy! And I could not be happier. To anyone thinking about having an ablation, trust your Dr.
Avatar f tn And I as I mentioned, digoxin is used to treat atrial flutter. I was assuming your ablation was for SVT. My apologies for that, but there are still many newer medications to treat A fib and flutter.
Avatar n tn Hi... I am a 37 yr old female diagnosed about four years ago with Atrial Fibrillation, Sub Ventricular Tachycardia and Mitral Valve Prolapse. I get intermittent runs of Afib or SVT lasting anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Digoxin treatment greatly reduced the number of episodes I have, but haven't eliminated them entirely. Being recently married, I wanted to start a family.
Avatar f tn I had an ablation done 2 months ago for AVNRT which is they most common type of SVT. I've had episodes of SVT since I was in the 30's. I'm now 60. If I had the chance to have an ablation done back then, I would have jumped at it. I was found out earlier this year that I was even a candidate for one. I tried digoxin and tambocor and didn't like the way they made me feel. My heart rate for the most part was pretty normal unless I was in SVT.
4356842 tn?1353312209 Okay so I have svt and am taking digoxin. I know what an svt attack feels like and I have heard of people with and with out svt having pvs and pacs. I was just wondering if someone could please explain not like the technical difference but more or like the feeling of each. I on occasion have this really odd feeling in my heart. the only way I can describe it is like my heart is beating weird. its beating at a normal pace it just feels different than normal if that makes sense.
1712639 tn?1308439338 If you are having more issues with it, several people on here have had ablations for SVT and seem to be doing quite well. I am sure they will pipe up here soon.
Avatar f tn Wow 300 BPM is real scary....I bet your anxiety contributed to the high heart rate. When your heart rate can be controlled by adenosine, then you are surely a canidate for an ablation. I had SVT for 2 years before I decided that I couldn't live like this anymore. I was totally consumed by this disorder and it limited my life so.
