Avatar n tn 2 week old premature infant has recurrent SVT/ Atrial Flutter and has been loaded on Digoxin and Amiodarone. The plan is to continue amiodarone for another 6 months; is this safe for him?
Avatar f tn I just re-read your post and see that your ablation was for atrial flutter. And I as I mentioned, digoxin is used to treat atrial flutter. I was assuming your ablation was for SVT. My apologies for that, but there are still many newer medications to treat A fib and flutter.
Avatar f tn I had cardiac ablation for atrial flutter on March 26. The first 4 weeks were ok, I was in NSR even though resting heart rate was a bit higher than before, but that seemed to normalize after the first two weeks. I was kept on toprol xr twice a day (total of 150mg) and digoxin. My doctor canceled my follow up appointment and that same day something seemed to snap and my heart rate started going up.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with atrial fib/atrial flutter. I had an atrial ablation in 2008 which did not resolve my problem. In the past few months I have had several episodes of afib/flutter lasting from 10 hours to 6 weeks. I currently have a heart rate of 130 to 140 consistently and feel pretty crummy. My cardiologist just keeps changing med with no relief. Currently taking Lisinopril, Digoxin and Multaq. He has referred me for another ablation at Baylor Hospital/Dallas.
Avatar f tn In April I had my first episode of atrial fibrillation lasting 12 hours. I was put on an IV of cardizem, then digoxin . I have a history of svt and took verapamil for 15 years. My EP urged me to have an ablation for the svt hopingthat the svt could have been a trigger for the a-fib. I had the ablation 8 weeks ago, and my AVNRT was successfully ablated. However, in the weeks since the procedure I have had very brief runs (2-17 beats) of tachycardia once or twice a week.
Avatar f tn Jessy, I am sorry that you are experiencing such a hard time. I hope you recover soon and your atrial flutter and the treatment for it is nothing but a bad dream for you soon.
Avatar n tn Hi... I am a 37 yr old female diagnosed about four years ago with Atrial Fibrillation, Sub Ventricular Tachycardia and Mitral Valve Prolapse. I get intermittent runs of Afib or SVT lasting anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Digoxin treatment greatly reduced the number of episodes I have, but haven't eliminated them entirely. Being recently married, I wanted to start a family.
Avatar f tn I thought mini maze ablations were primarily for atrial fibrillation. Never heard of having it done for "palpitations" or PAC's. Do you know the proper names for your arrythymias? That might help folks share their own experiences.
Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
10947 tn?1281404252 I have had svt and palpitations for 20 years I take Digoxin and veramil. I have only had to have help with svt conversion twice and that was done with IV meds. I do have many palpitations that have worsen with menopause.
Avatar f tn finally added Digoxin. Only had spells about 2-3 times a year. A new flutter sensation appeared 4 months ago - wore monitor and dr says its PAC - not to worry. They drive me nuts all day long, off and on and put me on higher dose of 200 mgs. Toprol/ day but still has not done away with them. I have noticed that I can predict that after I eat the PAC's will start - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course I do have some in between but these are the times they really kick in.
Avatar f tn They just happened to find some atrial flutter while they were in there. Funny thing is it seems they got the atrial flutter zapped but now after 3 ablations I still have some PSVT. It's greatly improved but it doesn't want to go away. It could be worse. I don't know the rate of my flutter. The notes didn't mention that.
Avatar n tn is it ok to take furosemide 20mg with diltiaz er120mg,digoxin 0.25mg and metoprolol tart 50mg and a bayer aspirin 325mg ?
Avatar m tn My son who is 26 was diagnosed 5 days ago with atrial flutter and enlarged atrium. He has had EKG's and an echocardiogram so far and was immediately placed on coumadin. His cardiologist wants to do an ablation. Since his office visit he also in on an event monitor and had a run over 200 while walking up stairs carrying a case of water. His Doctor then added digoxin and a beta blocker.
Avatar n tn Back in November 2009, had an instance of atrial flutter. I woke up in the morning, got in the shower, and after a few minutes felt like I needed to cough and then rapid heartbeat (150 bpm) started. Didn't go away all day, so I went to the hospital. Was checked into the hospital, diagnosed with flutter, given digoxin and cardizem and eventually converted (not sure if the meds helped. Chest x-ray, echo and stress test were all normal, blood tests normal.
Avatar f tn I experienced AFib lately and when to hospital. Doctor put me on Digoxin, just wondering if anyone is on this drug and if it is working. This discussion is related to Synthroid and frequent heart flutters.
1545481 tn?1325160086 In addition, an everyday heart rate of 150 is hard work for the heart, and (untreated) atrial flutter can, similar to atrial fibrillation, cause blood clots over time. I think most doctors prefers their patients have atrial fibrillation instead of atrial flutter, as this rhythm is easier to control. If you have atrial flutter, the heart rate will increase in steps with increasing exercise levels, as the blocking is less and less.
Avatar f tn Keep in mind that your EKG is only as accurate as the doctor interpreting it. While anxiety may not cause a false positive for Atrial Flutter per se, there are many cases of patients being misdiagnosed with Atrial Flutter or Afib, just google it. As for flying, there are millions of people with heart arrhythmias that fly all the time; having Atrial Flutter should not keep you from traveling.
Avatar n tn According to the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association/European Society of Cardiology guidelines, Radiofrequency catheter ablation is first-line therapy for atrial flutter. The most common forms of atrial flutter can be cured with a 90% success rate at very low risk.
187666 tn?1331173345 Hi Irene... I, unfortunately, have had the displeasure to experience both Fib&Flutter. An episode of atrial flutter I experienced a very rapid heart rate, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and dizziness. Some people may experience no symptoms, and the atrial flutter is identified incidentally during a routine EKG. When the heart is in Atrial Flutter, the rate is usually between 250-300bpm.
967168 tn?1477584489 Sept of 09 diagnosis, Atrial Flutter, Oct had ablation for Flutter. 10 days later went into Afib. Was on flecanide and metoprolol until August 2010 when I had a PVI ablation, on sotalol since. I have been in NSR for about 50+ days.Sotalol has been cut in half. Infrequent PAC's, that do not last more than a couple seconds. Flutter and Fib seemed to have been triggered by exertion. Couple of times episodes occurred when resting.
Avatar n tn Is it possible to have both atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter? I am on the drug flecainide and wonder if this is safe.
Avatar f tn He has booked me in for the EP exam and I am very scared to make the pots worse but also this atrial flutter makes me feel vile as my heart goes up to 170-180 bpm with an attack. I also have low blood pressure so the beta blockers to control the atrial flutter are making me feel awful. They think my increased heart rate on standing of up to 124-130 from the pots type syndrome are on occasion then triggering the atrial flutter.
967168 tn?1477584489 I have had 2 ablations for Atrial Fib and 1 for Atrial Flutter. I had a pacer implanted and also had an AVJ (node) ablation. I am 100% paced now. I still have AFib but not at the breakneck speed or pace as in the past. I also have PACs occasionally. I am in NSR about 90% of the time.
