Avatar n tn Okay, I knew I probably should not have read about it but in reading about the new drug my doctor put me on digoxin I see where it interacts negatively with xanax. I am not a regular user of xanax but have some in case I can't sleep or am nervous flying, etc... Does anyone know if this will be a problem if I take small dosages of xanax say once or twice a week? Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn i am trying to find the answer as part of course work {why do we need to monitor blood preasue when adminastering the drug degoxin } { also when we are using a nebulizer why do we check the saturation levals befor and after use } thankyou tina
Avatar m tn your cardiologist put you on Metoprolol and Digoxin. The latter drug is very old. I took it back in 1957 when my SVT first appeared. It's toxic and can buildup in you body. I'd ask with all of the possible anti-arrhythmic drugs available, why were you put on Digoxin? Question: What strength Metoprolol were you prescribed? When you get these episodes, there are several ways that you can convert them on your own. Has anyone shown you how to perform Valsalva?
Avatar n tn If one has increased functionality of the heart, the drug may be dropped, also, there can be a tolerance that develops with digoxin that may require discontinuation for a period of time.
Avatar f tn However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
Avatar f tn I experienced AFib lately and when to hospital. Doctor put me on Digoxin, just wondering if anyone is on this drug and if it is working. This discussion is related to Synthroid and frequent heart flutters.
Avatar m tn I am surprised they had you taking Digoxin and Amiodarone together??? I don't care for either drug, myself. I took Amiodarone for 9 months for SVTs. I stopped the drug because of the nasty side effects. The skipped beats were gone by then and haven't returned since.
Avatar n tn Is amiodarone as safe a drug as digoxin or linoxin for A-fib as far as long term side affects are concerned?
Avatar f tn The concurrent use of class IA or class III antiarrhythmic agents with other medications that can prolong the QT interval should preferably be avoided unless benefits are anticipated to outweigh the risks (i.e. you won't find many doctors that will prescribe 2 antiarrhythmic agents together). Caution and clinical monitoring are recommended if these agents are prescribed together, especially to patients with underlying risk factors.
2021358 tn?1328748117 Beacuse I also have heart problems, the neurologist and cardiologist got together and prescribed DIGOXIN. Altho I have not see anything on the INET about the use of digoxin in auto neuropathy, I don't know why not. It made a tremendous difference in my pulse, bp, and even in decreasing stomache nausea and constipation (stomache is also controlled by vagal nerve). I felt almost normal. Digoxin is the only drug I know of on the market which strengthens the vagal nerve.
Avatar m tn I know there was a recent recall of Digoxin in the U.S. Check with your doctor about any changes in medications. Is there any chance the pain is because of the ICD? I've heard some people say they have some discomfort from the leads/placement of the device, etc. Does your doctor think it's OK for you to take over the counter pain medication? If so, what does he suggest?
Avatar n tn try and see if you can get on another drug. This drug caused Hypothyroidism, Restrictive Lung Disease as well as vision problems in my daughter. On CLOUDY days she would get a sunburn so bad that she swelled up and had to have cold wet towels placed all over her body. This is a horrible drug to have your child on. Another bad problem is that, once stopped, it can take up to a year to get the drug completely out of the body.
4356842 tn?1353312209 So I had a pretty crappy cold about a week and a half ago, now being on digoxin I can't take cold meds so I stick it out. Well the cold is now over and my teeth are hurting. I see no signs of abscess' and my mom thinks it might be a sinus infection. No from what I've read online they usually give amoxcillin to treat it. My question is has anyone else on digoxin taken amoxcillin? Is it safe. Being on dig I know there's a lot of stuff we can and can not take.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
4356842 tn?1353312209 My gosh, Digoxin is a very old drug. There are many new anti-arrhythmics available that you could try these days. I took Digoxin back in 1957, and it did little to stop mine. I eventually went unmedicated from my pre-teens until my early 50's. I finally had mine fixed by ablation as I neared 60 years of age. I highly recommend it. It's relatively painless, you may have general anesthisia as I did and experience nothing.
Avatar f tn I am curious as to why your cardiologist would have you on digoxin. It is used today mostly for atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. It has been surpassed by beta blockers and/or calcium channel blockers as a first line choice. Did you perhaps experience syncope before your ablation? High ventricular rate leads to insufficient diastolic filling time. Digoxin slows down the conduction in the AV node and increases its refractory period, and it can reduce the ventricular rate.
Avatar f tn You seem to have a true allergy to sulfa, and reactions to Diamox are a definite possibility. The cardiac drug Digoxin has been reported to lower the cerebrospinal pressure as well and has been beneficial for patients with your disease. Another option if the nerve shows progressive damage is to have a surgery called optic nerve sheath fenestration to protect the nerve from raised intracranial pressure.
Avatar n tn Hi 2 years ago I randomly started suffering from pac's and occassional pvc's. I was checked out at the time and my heart was found to be structurally normal. However I was unable to cope with the number of these, and have been taking a small dose of atenolol daily since (12.5mg, one tablet cut in half). I'm now 6 weeks pregnant, and tried to stop taking them but couldn't. When I did, I was horribly anxious and couldn't cope.
Avatar f tn My HR is the same and I do not take any other medications, just a vitamin. The drug info says these can be side effects and i am wondering if these are a forever side effect or just my body getting adjusted. The doc said it take 6 days to be therapeutic so why would i be getting the side effects now?
