Digoxin dose in renal failure

Common Questions and Answers about Digoxin dose in renal failure

digitek

Avatar m tn There are a few beta blockers with evidence in heart failure -- they are carvedilol, metoprolol XL, and bisoprolol (not really used in the US). Atenolol does not have any data to support its use in heart failure, so I would recommend a different agent (one of the above). Which one to choose depends on your blood pressure and ability to take twice daily dosing vs once daily. Chlorthalidone is a perfectly fine diuretic, if you have blood pressure room to tolerate it.
Avatar f tn Hi, Digoxin is administered in the treatment of Congestive heart failure . Diastolic blood pressure significantly decreased and systolic blood pressure significantly increased during overnight sleep in the digoxin phase .Heart rate decreased in the overnight sleeping phase . Digoxin significantly decreases diastolic blood pressure during overnight sleep in patients with congestive heart failure.
Avatar f tn They had given him a pretty large dose of it while in the ER and he took 3 doses of the pill...he started feeling pretty bad. He went to his regular cardiologist today and he ran a blood test to check for toxicity and took him off of it. It sounds like a very nasty drug...thanks for the info. I can't understand why he was put on it. He has had a heart attack and bypass surgery but I don't think that would make digoxin the only alternative with so many other drugs out there.
Avatar n tn my dad was taken off of it because his rate dropped below 60 beats and was causing him to be knocked out for most of the day when he went off of it his symptoms improved now its been 2 weeks and he is showing signs of loss of appitite, sleepiness, slow in speech, stomach acid, nasea Can the digoxin be retintroduced without any big adjustment to his chemistry?
Avatar m tn Hi. Sequential therapy with Sorafenib and Sunitinib has been studied by Dham, et al (2007) [web link: http://www.asco.org/ASCO/Abstracts+&+Virtual+Meeting/Abstracts?&vmview=abst_detail_view&confID=47&abstractID=31160]. In this trial, 23 patients were given sorafenib followed by sunitinib, and 14 patients received sunitinib followed by sorafenib. Patients switched to a different drug either because of unacceptable toxicity or disease progression with the original drug.
Avatar n tn However, you need to be careful with the dose of the tablets as you need to start at a lower dose and escalate the dose gradually or otherwise it may worsen your congestive heart failure you are suffering from. Secondly, the EF of 25% is definitely low and should consult your cardiologist for the same. I hope you are taking digitalis glycosides (digoxin) as they play an important role apart from the other therapies in improving the EF. I sincerely hope that helps. Please do keep me posted.
Avatar n tn Life expectancy isn't something the doctors are willing to talk about when they have a patient that is suffering heart failure, as well as renal failure. I'm stage 4 heart failure, and stage 5 renal failure. I have an ICD implant, and do dialysis 6 days a week, for 2 1/2 hours at a time. I take Coreg, 12.5 mg/pm on dialysis days, along with 160 mg of lasix/pm, which mainly is used to remove excess potassium from my system, which dialysis doesn't do.
Avatar n tn Excessive doses may alter electrolyte imbalance in your body and it may produce renal failure. Your kidneys control your blood pressure, you dont want to end on Dialysis.
Avatar m tn Firstly you should get evaluated for breathlessness. For this you should get a check of renal parameters, Assessment of amount fluid intake, dose correction of diuretics etc to reduce dyspnea, as well as improve functioning of the heart by relieving pressure on it. Smoking and alcohol should be avoided. Also, to improve blood circulation for heart you should consider stenting for RCA. I would recommend that you discuss with your cardiologist regarding this and follow his advise. Best.
Avatar f tn m sure this is a long shot, but I know Digoxin can help with tissue perfusion as it helps with heart function. Her dose of Dig. was recently cut in half as they felt her heart was doing better, it was shortly after this decrease that I've noticed the increase in discoloration. Could this be related?
1706884 tn?1325787010 My dad has been in denial about his heart condition. He has lost 50 lbs in 2 months, and has swelling in his legs along with low blood pressure. He has 2 tias a year ago and has been diagnoised with congestive heart failure. He has been getting worse not better. I think the doctors should do a cath to see what is going on. He had an EKG 3 days ago and it was Abnormal. He came home instead of going to the hospital. His B-Type NAT PEP was 1048... Extremely HIGH!
2021358 tn?1328748117 It is an old drug which was used for heart failure years ago. Unfortunately, I had bad side effects and had to cut my dose in half. Even if the MD does't go along with the digoxin, they are the specialists to see for the vagal nerve.
Avatar f tn Digoxin and Toprol act in different ways and do not induce the same effects. I have atrial fib and was prescribed amioderone.
Avatar m tn I've posted this story a couple of other times, but I think in this case it needs to be repeated. I have a friend who was taking lisinopril, and everytime he tried to do anything that required a bit of energy, such as walking through his house, his BP dropped to the point of taking him to his knees. He has since quit taking the lisinopril, but the effects most likely will be with him for the rest of his life. My husband was on lisinopril for approx.
Avatar n tn Retailers who carry Digitek should return the product to the place of purchase. Overdosing on this drug can be very dangerous. In fact, digoxin was used in a series of murders in the 1980’s and 90’s that were committed by a male nurse who claimed to have killed the patients to “end their suffering”. Digoxin is a generic of digitek and it is the generic that has legal issues.

681148 tn?1437661591 I was hospitalized myself for the first time ever with renal failure back in September. To this day the nephrologist hasn't been able to figure out what the cause of the renal failure was or why the kidneys are only almost back to normal, but won't quite get to normal. I also have Oral Allergy Syndrome, GERD/IBS, Celiac, MCS and asthma and possibly CFS/FMS. I've been reading some information about hursutism and its connection to the cortisol produced by the adrenal glands.
Avatar n tn Renal failure may be either chronic or acute. Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) is a progressive, irreversible deterioration of kidney function. Because cats hide their illnesses and the very early signs of CRF are subtle, this disease may only be recognized when the patient reaches the 70% deterioration level and more dramatic symptoms are observable. The seemingly sudden onset may appear to be an acute condition but is most often a crisis point of CRF.
Avatar n tn My cat, Miss Kitty has just died from renal failure. We did not notice any symptoms except weight loss and as she was about 14,, we attributed this to being older. She was still active and eating, until one Friday night when she collapsed. We took her to an excellent vet who gave her aggressive treatment over a period of weeks, including IV fluids, saline, blood supplements, phosphorus blocker, CCRF supplements, KD cat food, and we also gave her Astro Oil.

Avatar m tn I have 2 twin jack Russell terriers. today I was told one of them has renal failure. vet wanted to eutho him then and there. was totally unprepared. I brought him back home cause I can't afford the costs for an attempt to save him, which I know there is zero salvation. my question is this. I bought these twin brothers from a breeder at 12 weeks. they have never been apart since their birth. always butt and butt when they sleep. 11 yrs old.
Avatar f tn I had another kitty-a 19 yr old- that i was treating for renal failure. i gave him all the holistic supplements i was giving the 15 yr old. but i might have given him too much CoQ10 60mg bioavailable for his 10-13 lb weight???! He was pretty sick but he did stay with us for awhile longer.
