Avatar f tn I'm pregnant and the baby has svt.. So I'm taking it for baby lol it seems to be working for him so far! They did an echo today.
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
4356842 tn?1353312209 Been taking digoxin since being diagnosed. I am pretty sure I have had svt all my life, I do recall having attacks when I was younger, but three years ago is when it go bad and more frequent. My cardio told me at first that he things surgery is a last resort for me. I am tired of dealing with the episodes. I feel lucky that their not that bad and that they are tolerable. I am just worried about having the ablation and coming out worse than what I am now.
Avatar f tn I have some Afib and some PAC's, my doc said Digoxin and Toprol do the same thing, I chose the Digoxin. Does anyone take the Digoxin for these conditions and it works? Which do you think is better?
Avatar n tn They gave me a beta blocker and a shot of digoxin and told me I had tachycardia. I went to my cardiologist, she increased my digoxin from .25 to .375 and told me that my potassium level was on the lower end of normal to eat a banana or drink a glass of OJ daily. I had asked her if she thought it was some sort of panic attack (I have no prior panic attacks) with really no response other than lets monitor for the next 3 months.
4356842 tn?1353312209 These three medications are less likely to cause side effects and more likely to prevent SVT. However, rarely in SVT patients, such medications will cause a cardiac arrest. Estimates of this risk are in the 1% range, but many physicians consider this to be too high of an estimate. I tried sotalol briefly, but had a very bad SVT episode that was difficult to convert, so I stopped it immediately, and went back to metoprolol. Trying all of the different drugs and dosages carries some risk.
Avatar n tn 2 week old premature infant has recurrent SVT/ Atrial Flutter and has been loaded on Digoxin and Amiodarone. The plan is to continue amiodarone for another 6 months; is this safe for him?
Avatar f tn s my completely unprofessional opinion on what I know about digoxin, and I took it for a number of years as a kid for SVT. It's an old drug that's been used literally for centuries. I took it back in 1957. It's inherently toxic and if that fact was not enough to curtail its use, there's evidence that suggests the drug, even at dosages normally considered safe, can cause visual problems, serious skin rashes, and may significantly aggravate asthma.
Avatar f tn I have awoken and passed out completly many times and right before I experience one or all of the folllowing will also occur;diarea, vomit, cold hands & feet, pass out completly. I did a little research and think I may be suffering from hypoklemia. This is freaking me out I still can'tgo to bed because I am waking to make sure I breathe. Can I stop taking Dig and if so are there side affects to that? What should I expect? Please help me!
4356842 tn?1353312209 Okay so I have svt and am taking digoxin. I know what an svt attack feels like and I have heard of people with and with out svt having pvs and pacs. I was just wondering if someone could please explain not like the technical difference but more or like the feeling of each. I on occasion have this really odd feeling in my heart. the only way I can describe it is like my heart is beating weird. its beating at a normal pace it just feels different than normal if that makes sense.
Avatar f tn I have been it the hospital for 10 days now and they have tired different meds. Digoxin and Flecainide. They didnt work. Has anyone gone through this and could be of some support??
183222 tn?1375334552 digoxin is a very good med for svt my daughter is currently taking digoxin in additon to coreg, inspra and vasotec and the amount of svt is down considerably and was the only medication that has improved her overall condition she had an ablation but it was unsuccessful as they were not able to ablate on the left due a mass at the mitral-aortic junction and all pac's and svt are coming from the left holter before digoxin showed 749 svt after digoxin was added svt down to 166
Avatar m tn One on December 6, 2008 (240 bpm for @ 9 minutes, another 5 minutes to get down to 120 bpm) and then she was put on medication, Digoxin 0.125 mg). Then on Dec. 2, 2008, she had another episode that was 260 bpm for @ 15 minutes. She has appt. sched for Jan 15 with local cardiologist. I am very concerned that medication is not going to help and worried about heart damage. Are there medications that control this?
Avatar n tn If anyone out there has gone through pregnancy and delivery with pre-existing AFib and or SVT, I would love to hear what you have learned or what you know about it. I feel helpless like I'm not armed with enough information to handle my pregnancy safely. Thanks very much! I appreciate any input!
Avatar f tn re going to need to give it a lot of time, perhaps up to a year for things to settle down. I get skips and little runs of SVT, and mine was down over 4 years ago. Keep in mind that the conductive circuit remains within your heart. Nothing was removed or taken out. Only a tiny scar tissue barrier was burned across it to prevent conduction. I am curious as to why your cardiologist would have you on digoxin. It is used today mostly for atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter.
Avatar m tn the other consideration is the number of times he has been in the e.r and p.i.c.u and the heart rate of 250 bpm and higher when in svt. should we consider rfa at this time? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/1067264'>SVT medication and its consequences</a>.
Avatar m tn Does anyone have experience with pediatric ablation? My daughter has SVT and they are recommending ablation. I'm terrified about it. Just looking for some stories about success or no success.
Avatar f tn My daughter will be 4 weeks old this week, she had SVT in utero and I took digoxin while pregnant and as soon as she was born she was placed on it. We went to the cardiologist yesterday and they did an echo and told us that she has pulmonary artery stenosis, (not sever) but definately audible....she was also born with a very short perineum...my question is this....is that somesort of syndrom or condition that could be playing the part in the combination of these problems for her?...
1302576 tn?1273270866 Not sure if my story helps, but it may be that you could reduce the frequency and intensity of AFib and SVT by taking a low dose of beta blocker and/or calcium channel blocker. The CCB works the best for me.
705586 tn?1314224932 My doctor took me off meds and I was SVT clear for about 4 years. This past Thanksgiving I had an SVT but was also sick with a bad gall bladder. It seems that when my stomach gets full of gass/ or is full it can trigger an event. I had another SVT in April at work after riding my bike and getting my heart rate up to 125. Is it more dangerous to exercise induced SVT's?
Avatar n tn However, assuming all these other factors were normal, there are other, much less toxic medications than amiodarone that have been routinely used and are better tolerated for longer periods of time in patients with SVT. I would recommend that you discuss whether using medications, such as digoxin or one from the class of the beta-blockers, would be possible with your cardiologist prior to considering long term therapy with amiodarone.
4356842 tn?1353312209 My life has gone from 0-60 in 2 months and its absolutely crazy! And I could not be happier. To anyone thinking about having an ablation, trust your Dr.
992218 tn?1276107009 I am a 28 year old female with a history of SVT, Syncope and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (in remission). I've been in remission from the NHL for 3 years now but the Syncope and SVT's just started a little over a year ago when I went back to work as an EMT-Intermediate. So far no diagnosis. I have a cardiologist who has been great and currently he is looking at the possiblity of a tumor on my adrenal gland and refering me to an EP doctor to have a Loop Recorder implanted.
Avatar f tn I am on Coreg 50mg twice a day (max you can have) and Digoxin 0.25 mg once a day and my heart rate is still in the hundreds resting. I am nervous because they are talking about doing an ablation (I am only 26). How long was you in the hospital afterwards? Did you continue taking your medicines after the procedure?
