Avatar m tn At 5 months later, I was overdosed by this heart doctor, on the coumadin that had been monitered since the bipass surgery. I was bleeding in my urine, and my cuts were starting to bleed and become irratated red at even the washing of hands. And there was funny stuff inside my body, like gurgling, etc.. I called the doctor and he rushed me to the emergency at the hospital. My monitered INR should have been 2.
Avatar n tn My dad has been detected with low Ejection Fraction of 25% through an echo test, also doctors say theres a leakage in his left valve, though the doctor also mentioned that the leakage is not that much that he should go in for surgery immediately. Now, he is kept on beta blockers and diagoxin. I would like to understand the follwoing: - How sever is the problem, can it lead to sudden cardiac arrest? - Can his EF be improved through medicines or he needs a surgery?
Avatar f tn My husband went into a fib on Friday and they put him on it. He converted while in the ER and was told to take it in addition to his beta blocker. They had given him a pretty large dose of it while in the ER and he took 3 doses of the pill...he started feeling pretty bad. He went to his regular cardiologist today and he ran a blood test to check for toxicity and took him off of it. It sounds like a very nasty drug...thanks for the info. I can't understand why he was put on it.
Avatar m tn How do you tell if Afib converted on its own or if the medication did the conversion or if the medication was causing the Afib? I have been to the Primary doctor and Emergency room both said I was not in afib currently. Another words, when do you know when to stop taking the medications? In Nov 2013, I have Aortic heart valve replacement and a maze procedure. My old cardiologist wanted to do a cardioversion but I didn't want it, so I had to change Cardiologist.
Avatar f tn My husband and I would like to start trying for a baby but i'm on Betablockers for a tachycardia that no-one can find a reason for! i'm only on 1.25mg of bisoprolol, and would like to know what risks there are. I'm currently on a waiting list to see cardiology and find out what their opinion is but would like a bit of advice.
4356842 tn?1353312209 I am limited so much to what I can and cant do. I think its mainly due to the digoxin. So I was wondering if anyone out there has been on the digoxin and switched to something different. While on the digoxin did you have severe heat intolerance? I haven't been able to tan in 3 years or go to the beach. Pretty much all summer activities during the day I can not do. I get so dizzy and disoriented in the heat that it actually causes me to have attacks.
Avatar n tn Hi... I am a 37 yr old female diagnosed about four years ago with Atrial Fibrillation, Sub Ventricular Tachycardia and Mitral Valve Prolapse. I get intermittent runs of Afib or SVT lasting anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Digoxin treatment greatly reduced the number of episodes I have, but haven't eliminated them entirely. Being recently married, I wanted to start a family.
Avatar n tn My father recenlty fell, fractured his hip and I have been getting contradicting information about digoxin, since he has low blood pressure and digoxin may not be safe for him.. Thank you This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/239460'>Dijoxin Level</a>.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar f tn Our DD was born with a moderate/large VSD and ASD, only she was in heart failure by 10 days old, was placed on Lasix, Digoxin and Spironolactone and NG tube by 6 weeks. She was in very significant heart failure. She is now 3.5 years old, and surgery free. Both defects improved enough that surgery ended up not being warranted. She is still small, at 3 years, 7 months she is still only 28.5 lbs, but she is perfectly healthy!
4356842 tn?1353312209 So I had a pretty crappy cold about a week and a half ago, now being on digoxin I can't take cold meds so I stick it out. Well the cold is now over and my teeth are hurting. I see no signs of abscess' and my mom thinks it might be a sinus infection. No from what I've read online they usually give amoxcillin to treat it. My question is has anyone else on digoxin taken amoxcillin? Is it safe. Being on dig I know there's a lot of stuff we can and can not take.
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
Avatar f tn I have some Afib and some PAC's, my doc said Digoxin and Toprol do the same thing, I chose the Digoxin. Does anyone take the Digoxin for these conditions and it works? Which do you think is better?
Avatar n tn s contractions are weaker than normal, and digoxin helps provide a stronger beating heart. If one has increased functionality of the heart, the drug may be dropped, also, there can be a tolerance that develops with digoxin that may require discontinuation for a period of time.
Avatar f tn digoxin, and toprolol. niether of them worked. My dr. now wants to put me on flecanide next. Which with that i will have to be put in the hospital. I had really bad side effects with the toprolol and am ver scared to start this new drug. i don't have high blood pressure so the beta blockers were just making me more tired. i have very bad palpatations and irregular heartbeats. we also talked about a surgery, called the "mini maze' which is performed by a dr.
Avatar f tn Scheduled another cardio-vert for this Wed Mar 4, and will start on Tikosyn and be monitored in hospital for 2-3 days. Also said I would need to be on Digoxin and would fax that Rx in.... he "forgot".....I called the service Sat.& Dr. in surgery his PA said he would call back in 2 hours.... but I didn't hear from him. Today I learned he called it in, but didn't notify me, the pharmacy did. The P.A. said A-Fib was a "nuisance" not dangerous.....
Avatar f tn I know if i was on digoxin i would look at the packaging the pharmacy gave me and go directly to the horses mouth so to speak and go onto the manufactuerers site and see what they have to say about long term effects, etc. They should tell you what the clinical studies showed, side effects and all of the pertinent information....good luck to you....
Avatar f tn t want to put yourself into a high risk group of something happening to you because your other organs are being effects or letting your heart become weak because you wait too long....my vote is power thru it and get it done and now risks of surgery have been super minimized because of the strides that have been made over the years...i say go for it........it obviously does not matter how this happened...
Avatar f tn High ventricular rate leads to insufficient diastolic filling time. Digoxin slows down the conduction in the AV node and increases its refractory period, and it can reduce the ventricular rate. The arrhythmia itself is not affected, but the pumping function of the heart improves by improved filling. The use of digoxin in heart problems during sinus rhythm was once standard.

Avatar n tn The indications for surgery are elevated pressures in the lungs and/or failing to thrive. Since the child appears to be growing the cardiologist is giving him time to prove whether or not the hole can get smaller in the next couple of months. The surgeon is saying that this hole has a strong likelihood of needing to be fixed in the future. In this situation time, and serial assessment of the hole and the the child's growth will guide the timing for surgery.
4356842 tn?1353312209 My Dr took me off the digoxin, last time I took it was the day before my surgery. That has had a HUGE impact on my life. No more heat intolerance, I no longer feel like crap for no reason either. My anxiety has gone down drastically, almost non existent. I've got my self a job working at a teen night club Lol. My life has gone from 0-60 in 2 months and its absolutely crazy! And I could not be happier. To anyone thinking about having an ablation, trust your Dr.
