Avatar f tn I'm 76 and have had 2 cardio versions. My cardio just took me off digoxin and started me on propafenone which is really making me sick. Do you ever adjust to it? I'm taking 225 mg twice a day.
4356842 tn?1353312209 I have an appointment with my Cardio tomorrow, and I plan on talking to him about getting my off of Digoxin, With my last post in the community and everyone's response to me being on digoxin, I really don't want to be on it. And no I am not just basing my decision to get off of it by peoples responses but more or less my own. I am so tired of not having energy or having bad heat intolerance.

Avatar f tn In a study called the AFFIRM trial, medications to slow the heart rate, such as beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, and digoxin, were found to be preferable to antiarrhythmic medications as a first-line treatment for certain people with atrial fibrillation, specifically older people at risk for stroke who did not have severe symptoms of atrial fibrillation." I think it's up to the treating Cardiologist right now...
Avatar m tn Heart steadied in 6 months but after a year TSH showed 38 and amio was changed to propafenone. Four ECGs and thyroid test in last six months show normal. But symptoms continue: Pre-syncope, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, 6 to 10 days a month. My cardiologist is alarmed by the pre-syncope.he suggests : another Holter, return to amiodarone, see electrophysiologist, EEG for brain conduction. (I must mention I've had similar stress symptoms for 25 years, in case this is pertinent.).
Avatar f tn I took propafenone for a few months. I had frequent PVCs that led to cardiomyopathy and the doctor wanted to suppress the PVCs. I was taking 150mg 3x/day. I don't recall having any bothersome side effects. I had some minor gastrointestinal upset, but it settled down. I can't remember if I had "weird" dreams on propafenone, but I know it is one of the side effects. I definitely had the weird dreams on flecainide (tambacor). Overall, the propafenone worked very well for me.
Avatar f tn My husband and I would like to start trying for a baby but i'm on Betablockers for a tachycardia that no-one can find a reason for! i'm only on 1.25mg of bisoprolol, and would like to know what risks there are. I'm currently on a waiting list to see cardiology and find out what their opinion is but would like a bit of advice.
Avatar m tn after 18 months on 200 amiodarone prescribed for ventricular tachy I was changed to a single daily 150 dose of propafenone three months ago. Now two of three days a week I have heart skips, dizziness, fatigue, severe breathlessness, nausea, half fainting, confusion, speech diffuvculty and general malaise as I did before taking amiodarone On other days I feel well. I'm 80. Also this year my TSH was 38 reduced over two months by levothyroxine which I still take. Life is not too good.
Avatar n tn I am very concerned about being on this drug for the rest of my life when I had no indication of AF in my life until 1999 and of course no indication of AF since 1999 while being on propafenone. Do you believe that I should be concerned and should I seek another opinion on life time use of propafenone. This discussion is related to Propafenone.
Avatar n tn My father recenlty fell, fractured his hip and I have been getting contradicting information about digoxin, since he has low blood pressure and digoxin may not be safe for him.. Thank you This discussion is related to Dijoxin Level.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar n tn Had a pacemaker put in 2 months ago with an aberration and I take propafenone how long will I need to take my my propafenone thank you Larry
Avatar n tn I have used Propafenone (generic Rythmol) and Rythmol SR in high dosage for a number of years. I am no longer on them as while the Propafenone seems to have helped me stay in NSR, it was not able to convert me... same for Rythmol. However, some people do convert on either of these forms, Rythmol may work for you and it is available in the more convenient Slow Release (SR) form. As I recall, it is rather expensive, hope you have some insurance help.
4356842 tn?1353312209 So I had a pretty crappy cold about a week and a half ago, now being on digoxin I can't take cold meds so I stick it out. Well the cold is now over and my teeth are hurting. I see no signs of abscess' and my mom thinks it might be a sinus infection. No from what I've read online they usually give amoxcillin to treat it. My question is has anyone else on digoxin taken amoxcillin? Is it safe. Being on dig I know there's a lot of stuff we can and can not take.
Avatar m tn I have been on different meds, but now am on digoxin (0.125mg 1x day) and propafenone (150 mg 2x day) for 4 months. Let me tell you the side effects are killing me ! I am in such mental turmoil dealing with: depression, emotional roller coaster, suicidal thoughts, lack in appetite, fatigue, delirious, body aches, etc and I can't work a job. I still have episodes after walking/running for about an hour or so. I got my blood checked for overdosing and it checked out fine.
5681515 tn?1372270707 I apologize for the long delay in responding. The procedure itself went well. Five days later went to E.R. because I had gone into a pretty bad a fib attack. I had not been on any medications, except xarelto. My B.P. was too low and H.R to fast plus I was dehydrated. I went home after a few hr's with A RX for Digoxin and Flecainide and was taken off them on the Mon after Thanksgiving due to serious side effects.
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
Avatar f tn I have some Afib and some PAC's, my doc said Digoxin and Toprol do the same thing, I chose the Digoxin. Does anyone take the Digoxin for these conditions and it works? Which do you think is better?
183222 tn?1375334552 digoxin is a very good med for svt my daughter is currently taking digoxin in additon to coreg, inspra and vasotec and the amount of svt is down considerably and was the only medication that has improved her overall condition she had an ablation but it was unsuccessful as they were not able to ablate on the left due a mass at the mitral-aortic junction and all pac's and svt are coming from the left holter before digoxin showed 749 svt after digoxin was added svt down to 166
Avatar m tn I'd add Rythmol (with is a patent, not generic, I believe) which is available in slow or extended release, so one can take if fewer times, maybe only once, a day. I've used both propafenone (225 mg three times a day - 8 hours) and Rythmol 425mg SR twice a day. While the propafenone seems to help keep me in sinus against AFib, neither it nor the Rythmol have been effective in converting me back to sinus.
Avatar n tn s contractions are weaker than normal, and digoxin helps provide a stronger beating heart. If one has increased functionality of the heart, the drug may be dropped, also, there can be a tolerance that develops with digoxin that may require discontinuation for a period of time.
Avatar f tn s my completely unprofessional opinion on what I know about digoxin, and I took it for a number of years as a kid for SVT. It's an old drug that's been used literally for centuries. I took it back in 1957. It's inherently toxic and if that fact was not enough to curtail its use, there's evidence that suggests the drug, even at dosages normally considered safe, can cause visual problems, serious skin rashes, and may significantly aggravate asthma.
Avatar n tn I have taken high dose propafenone (240 mg three times a day, best I can recall) and beta blockers at the same time. I now take both a beta blocker and a calcium channel blocker to lower my heart rate. I suffer from atrial fibrillation.
7020218 tn?1426544951 I got prescribed Propafenone and started taking 1 week ago 2 times a day usually around 8 am/pm along with 12.5mg beta blocker. Its working fairly great so far. During the day I have no PVCs and able to exercise, run etc.. At night after I take my dose, maybe an hour or so later, I start feeling PVCs. Last couple nights I have been having bad sleep because of PVCs. Before I was taking the medication, my PVCs would die down at night. Whats going on?
