Avatar f tn This gene is responsible for encoding a protein called p-glycoprotein. The job of p-glycoprotein is to remove drugs and certain toxins from the brain. Dogs who have the MDR1 mutation cannot process these drugs correctly and remove them from their brains. This results in a buildup of neurotoxins that cause neurological symptoms ranging from seizures to coma and death. There are several breeds of dogs who are prone to having the MDR1 gene mutation.
1081992 tn?1389903637 It is also reported to be effective in ameliorating the side effects of γ-radiation and of doxorubicin and cisplatin; to inhibit the efflux of anticancer drugs by P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and to possess chemosensitizing effects in certain neoplastic cells in vitro and in vivo." It most likely can't hurt and is worth considering - after talking with doc, as usual.
378273 tn?1262097621 Atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response (is "rapid" a good or bad sign?) Left bundle branch block (I already knew I had this; doctor not concerned) Thanks for any help with this!
Avatar n tn Causes of small, flattened or inverted T waves are numerous and include ISCHEMIA (blocked or partially blocked arteries), age, race, hyperventilation, anxiety, drinking iced water, LVH, drugs (e.g. digoxin), pericarditis, PE, intraventricular conduction delay (e.g. RBBB)and electrolyte disturbance. Abnormal T waves has many causes and your post indicates ischemia as the cause. Any EKG test requires other evidence to make a diagnosis.
Avatar n tn While the majority of the collies in Europe and overseas do not have this gene, the majority of the collies in the USA DO have it, and therefore using ivermectin on them can prove lethal. This gene encodes a large transmembrane protein, p-glycoprotein, which is an integral part of something called the blood-brain barrier. P-glycoprotein is responsible for transporting medications FROM the brain back into the capillaries.
Avatar f tn Hsv1 glycoprotein g ab 8.64. Under that is..iv= 1.10 p. Under that is...hsv2 glycoprotein g ab <0.10. Then it shows...hsv 1/2 combined ab,igm. 1.28. Under that is...=1.10p. This was blood test done on 9/22/2014. I was told I have genital hsv1. I was looking over this and I'm curious to what this means exactly. Do I have hsv2 as well?
Avatar f tn My husband and I would like to start trying for a baby but i'm on Betablockers for a tachycardia that no-one can find a reason for! i'm only on 1.25mg of bisoprolol, and would like to know what risks there are. I'm currently on a waiting list to see cardiology and find out what their opinion is but would like a bit of advice.
Avatar n tn My father recenlty fell, fractured his hip and I have been getting contradicting information about digoxin, since he has low blood pressure and digoxin may not be safe for him.. Thank you This discussion is related to Dijoxin Level.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar m tn In animals examined for the study, Splenda reduced the amount of good bacteria in the intestines by 50 percent, increased the pH level in the intestines, contributed to increases in body weight and affected P-glycoprotein (P-gp) levels in such a way that crucial health-related drugs could be rejected.
Avatar m tn He said I had 1 of 2 options – I could either come back in about 2-3 weeks to get another blood test to see if the equivocal result comes back any different, or he could send in a request to the lab to perform a further test on the blood they already had (some type of glycoprotein test or something). I told him to go forward with the glycoprotein test, and I also made an appointment to get my blood drawn again in a few weeks.
Avatar m tn The first encounter with this person was about 12 weeks ago and i recently had (2 total) lesions on my gentials...which i am still waiting for the HSV culture results to come back. If i was showing lesions already you think that my blood test would show more antibody activity, right?? the only thing that came back positive was the "Herpes Simplex 1 and 2 Ab IgG/IgM, Rflx Glycoprot G." Can someone please help me understand this?!?!?!?!?!
4356842 tn?1353312209 So I had a pretty crappy cold about a week and a half ago, now being on digoxin I can't take cold meds so I stick it out. Well the cold is now over and my teeth are hurting. I see no signs of abscess' and my mom thinks it might be a sinus infection. No from what I've read online they usually give amoxcillin to treat it. My question is has anyone else on digoxin taken amoxcillin? Is it safe. Being on dig I know there's a lot of stuff we can and can not take.
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
Avatar f tn I have some Afib and some PAC's, my doc said Digoxin and Toprol do the same thing, I chose the Digoxin. Does anyone take the Digoxin for these conditions and it works? Which do you think is better?
Avatar f tn Grapefruit contains the compound bergamottin, which interacts with certain enzyme systems in the body, such as cytochrome P-450 and P-glycoprotein. These enzyme systems are responsible for breaking down statins, as well as other drugs, into more usable chemicals and transporting them in the body.
Avatar n tn Mine starts with flutter, like a thousand butterflies in my chest, then to very fast and irregular beats, and then very slow and soft, in fact so soft I can hardly feel it. Anyone have the same? I try to avoid all triggers that I know of, such as laying on left side, coffee, over eating or eating to fast. I take CO Q10, magnesium, aspirin and my Flecinaide. Any one have good experience Flecinaide?
452199 tn?1222182975 [4] Loperamide molecules do not cross the blood-brain barrier in significant amounts, and thus it has no analgesic properties. Any that do cross the blood-brain barrier are quickly exported from the brain by P-glycoprotein (Pgp), also known as multidrug resistance protein (MDR1). Tolerance in response to long-term use has not been reported. However, loperamide can cause physical dependence.
Avatar n tn s contractions are weaker than normal, and digoxin helps provide a stronger beating heart. If one has increased functionality of the heart, the drug may be dropped, also, there can be a tolerance that develops with digoxin that may require discontinuation for a period of time.
Avatar f tn my results for the regular blood test came back positive for hsv1 and hsv2 my number was 1.12 and the glycoprotein came back positive for hsv1 but negative for hsv2. I have never had an outbreak in my genital region. what should i do because im tired of wondering if im a carrier or not and because of this it has truely affected my social life.
Avatar n tn My bf recently told me that he just discovered that he has oral herpes as in cold sores without actually having symptoms. However, I took a quick look at his results report and it seems to indicate otherwise. However, I am not an expert so please help me. His results were HSV 1/2 combined Ab, IgM 1.14 HSV 1/2 Combin Ab SCRN, IgG 22.40 HSV1 Glycoprotein Ab IgG 6.75 HSV2 Glycoprotein Ab IgG 0.08 Thanks!!!
Avatar m tn the other consideration is the number of times he has been in the e.r and p.i.c.u and the heart rate of 250 bpm and higher when in svt. should we consider rfa at this time? This discussion is related to SVT medication and its consequences.
Avatar f tn s my completely unprofessional opinion on what I know about digoxin, and I took it for a number of years as a kid for SVT. It's an old drug that's been used literally for centuries. I took it back in 1957. It's inherently toxic and if that fact was not enough to curtail its use, there's evidence that suggests the drug, even at dosages normally considered safe, can cause visual problems, serious skin rashes, and may significantly aggravate asthma.
1042487 tn?1275279899 This protein is strongly expressed in cerebral capillaries, thereby increasing the impermeability of the blood-brain barrier to pharmacological agents. The laboratory studies P-glycoprotein’s mode of action and its interaction with other proteins, such as caveolin, in order to establish its biological function at the level of cerebral capillaries for the treatment of brain tumors.
Avatar f tn I know if i was on digoxin i would look at the packaging the pharmacy gave me and go directly to the horses mouth so to speak and go onto the manufactuerers site and see what they have to say about long term effects, etc. They should tell you what the clinical studies showed, side effects and all of the pertinent information....good luck to you....
