Avatar f tn My husband and I would like to start trying for a baby but i'm on Betablockers for a tachycardia that no-one can find a reason for! i'm only on 1.25mg of bisoprolol, and would like to know what risks there are. I'm currently on a waiting list to see cardiology and find out what their opinion is but would like a bit of advice.
Avatar n tn My father recenlty fell, fractured his hip and I have been getting contradicting information about digoxin, since he has low blood pressure and digoxin may not be safe for him.. Thank you This discussion is related to Dijoxin Level.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
937868 tn?1570328281 Some people swear by DGL - Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice as an alternative treatment for ulcers and digestive issues. The thing is, if it's getting worse it sounds like you need to get this looked at by a doctor as soon as possible - even if you have to find another doc or walk into an emergency dept of a hospital.
4356842 tn?1353312209 So I had a pretty crappy cold about a week and a half ago, now being on digoxin I can't take cold meds so I stick it out. Well the cold is now over and my teeth are hurting. I see no signs of abscess' and my mom thinks it might be a sinus infection. No from what I've read online they usually give amoxcillin to treat it. My question is has anyone else on digoxin taken amoxcillin? Is it safe. Being on dig I know there's a lot of stuff we can and can not take.
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
Avatar f tn I have some Afib and some PAC's, my doc said Digoxin and Toprol do the same thing, I chose the Digoxin. Does anyone take the Digoxin for these conditions and it works? Which do you think is better?
1961938 tn?1398718101 I haven't since I'm a ftm and not due for another 59 days, but Licorice Is one of my all time fave's! (hence, my screen name) Lol juss wanted to put that out there. But when you try It, let me know how It goes!
Avatar n tn s contractions are weaker than normal, and digoxin helps provide a stronger beating heart. If one has increased functionality of the heart, the drug may be dropped, also, there can be a tolerance that develops with digoxin that may require discontinuation for a period of time.
Avatar f tn s my completely unprofessional opinion on what I know about digoxin, and I took it for a number of years as a kid for SVT. It's an old drug that's been used literally for centuries. I took it back in 1957. It's inherently toxic and if that fact was not enough to curtail its use, there's evidence that suggests the drug, even at dosages normally considered safe, can cause visual problems, serious skin rashes, and may significantly aggravate asthma.
1470552 tn?1300605907 There is licorice with glycyrrhizin let’s shorten it to GZN and licorice without GZN, called deglycyrrhizinated licorice, or DGL. Licorice from DGL is effective in many therapeutic areas. It reduces inflammation by preventing the breakdown of cortisol, the body’s primary stress-fighting adrenal hormone, making these hormones more available to the body. It also appears to enhance immunity by boosting levels of interferon, a key immune system chemical that fights off attacking viruses.
Avatar f tn I know if i was on digoxin i would look at the packaging the pharmacy gave me and go directly to the horses mouth so to speak and go onto the manufactuerers site and see what they have to say about long term effects, etc. They should tell you what the clinical studies showed, side effects and all of the pertinent information....good luck to you....
Avatar m tn Then I found on the internet how toxic Digoxin could be with the other medicines I was taking, and that no one should be kept on it for very long. Since the second cardiologist removed Digoxin from my prescriptions, and I was healing and getting better, I think I must have been under a toxic level of Digoxin causing blood in my urine and poisoning affects of awake,eyesight,cuts,etc..
Avatar f tn I have severely low estrogen, testosertone and progesterone, and I read licorice and adaptogens can lower estrogen. Licorice is an adaptogen not a stimulant.
Avatar f tn High ventricular rate leads to insufficient diastolic filling time. Digoxin slows down the conduction in the AV node and increases its refractory period, and it can reduce the ventricular rate. The arrhythmia itself is not affected, but the pumping function of the heart improves by improved filling. The use of digoxin in heart problems during sinus rhythm was once standard.
541657 tn?1239208930 It is typically used as an herbal supplement in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is made from licorice from which the glycyrrhizin has been removed. There have been no known cases of overdose, and very little reported side effects (nausea and diarrhea sometimes reported). Maggie, is this what your Naturpath prescribed for you? I saw your post earlier and asked my neighbor about it, he's a chinese herbalist.
Avatar f tn Soy products may interfere with how the body absorbs thyroid medication in the GI tract. The general rule is to wait a few hours between taking your thyroid medication and consuming any soy products. Licorice candy is often flavoured with anise oil (flavour similar to licorice) but can also contain both licorice extract and anise oil. I've read licorice candy in the US is more likely to be flavoured with anise oil rather than licorice extract but you would have to check the label.
428506 tn?1296557399 Pax, why would you recommend DGL, as opposed to licorice? I have been drinking a lot of licorice tea, mostly for the adrenals, and I have read that that process takes away the properties needed for adrenal therapy....Just wondering.... thanks..
Avatar f tn I've been on pantpoprazole 20mg I've heard natural black licorice is a good alternative for reflux has anyone else open to suggestions.
