I am on Crestor, Atenolol, Cartia and Digoxin and Synthroid. I had Tachicardia and Atrial Fib.
I have symptoms of shortness of breath, a dry cough, extreme fatigue, short term memory loss, extreme joint pain and stiffness, poor balance, weakness at times, vision gets dark at times, neck and throat soreness. I'm going to my doctor because I can't function with these symptoms. Can you tell me which meds can cause this and what other meds I could take. Thank you.
My husband and I would like to start trying for a baby but i'm on Betablockers for a tachycardia that no-one can find a reason for! i'm only on 1.25mg of bisoprolol, and would like to know what risks there are. I'm currently on a waiting list to see cardiology and find out what their opinion is but would like a bit of advice.

I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
My mom is 53 and is sufering from Hyprcalcemia but Doctors are unable to diagnose her. She has been tested for Cancer with a bone marrow and all they said was that she had no cancer but they are concerned because she has plasma and protein in her bllod cells. She is always tired, sleepy and has heart palpitations but EKG's come out normal. She also has sver headaches and her bones ache and is depresed. She does not have hyperthiroidism. HELP!

I do not think are any real correlations between hypercalcemia at the level you are describing and heart attacks. We do sometimes see arrhythmias of the heart in patients with hypocalcemic (low calcium) and could possibly see an arrythmias (abnormal heart rhythm) in a patient with hypercalcemia but I think this would be at a higher level such as 14-15 or so.
25 which rules out a parathyroid tumor. Head to toe bone scans and bone xrays are normal as are abdominal and chest Ct scans and chest xrays and abdominal ultrasounds. Ruled out Familial type of hypercalcemia, ruled out multiple myeloma as well as pancreatic cancer, thyroid and parathyroid cancer, bone cancer, chest cancer. His spleen is enlarged. There is a small kidney stone and a small cyst on his kidney they weren't worried about. Not of Jewish descent.
I am searching for answers and have had much anxiety over this ongoing issue. For the past 3 years or so I've had mild hypercalcemia ranging between 10.6 and 10.9 usually. Last week my serum Ca. was 11.4 one day and 11.5 two days later. All other levels including phosphate have repeatedly appearead to fall in the normal range, except I did a 24 hr. urine collection and my calcium level was 323. For the past 2 weeks I've been experiencing heart palpitations as well.
The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
I have some Afib and some PAC's, my doc said Digoxin and Toprol do the same thing, I chose the Digoxin.
Does anyone take the Digoxin for these conditions and it works? Which do you think is better?

s my completely unprofessional opinion on what I know about digoxin, and I took it for a number of years as a kid for SVT. It's an old drug that's been used literally for centuries. I took it back in 1957. It's inherently toxic and if that fact was not enough to curtail its use, there's evidence that suggests the drug, even at dosages normally considered safe, can cause visual problems, serious skin rashes, and may significantly aggravate asthma.
I've been reading about placental calcification and can't seem to find an answer to this question. I've had mild hypercalcemia for a few years and have aslo had 2 late miscarriages (consecutively) at 18 weeks. Can hypercalcemia cause placental calcification or am I way off track ? I don't smoke, so that's not a factor. Except the elevated calcium (usually about 10.9 to 11.0) I am a healthy woman who has had healthy, uncomplicated pregnancies before this calcium issue.
I know if i was on digoxin i would look at the packaging the pharmacy gave me and go directly to the horses mouth so to speak and go onto the manufactuerers site and see what they have to say about long term effects, etc. They should tell you what the clinical studies showed, side effects and all of the pertinent information....good luck to you....
Then I found on the internet how toxic Digoxin could be with the other medicines I was taking, and that no one
should be kept on it for very long. Since the second cardiologist removed Digoxin from my prescriptions, and I was healing and getting better, I think
I must have been under a toxic level of Digoxin causing blood in my urine and poisoning affects of awake,eyesight,cuts,etc..
High ventricular rate leads to insufficient diastolic filling time. Digoxin slows down the conduction in the AV node and increases its refractory period, and it can reduce the ventricular rate. The arrhythmia itself is not affected, but the pumping function of the heart improves by improved filling.
The use of digoxin in heart problems during sinus rhythm was once standard.
I just don’t see any references anywhere to conditions that exist when calcium is high and PTH is low. Everything I have read about hypercalcemia talks about high calcium with high PTH or hypocalcemia with low calcium and low PTH. Anybody have any experience or knowledge about conditions that might arise in a generally healthy person with high calcium and low PTH? Thank you!
