Avatar n tn After five days I was sent home still in A-fib. Ten days later I was put on Cozaar , Coumadin and Digoxin. That night my heart self-converted. Is it common for A-fib to self-convert after being in constant A-fib tachycardia for 15 days? What are the odds of me going back into A-fib? This was my first time with A-fib. And I have been in sinus rhythm for 3 1/2 months, with a normal heart rate. I am F 55 not overweight, non smoker.
Avatar n tn Mine starts with flutter, like a thousand butterflies in my chest, then to very fast and irregular beats, and then very slow and soft, in fact so soft I can hardly feel it. Anyone have the same? I try to avoid all triggers that I know of, such as laying on left side, coffee, over eating or eating to fast. I take CO Q10, magnesium, aspirin and my Flecinaide. Any one have good experience Flecinaide?
Avatar m tn I've had a-fib for about 10-12 yrs. Diet pills and ephedrine brought it on. I've taken digoxin, flecanaide, and now I'm back on rhythmol 3 times a day and a small topral XL and quit my nightly ambien. Because my a-fib had increased to weekly episodes of 1-3 days, Dr told me I could go on Coumadin or sit back and wait for a stroke. I opted for the Coumadin and I haven't had a-fib since. He also is very big on ablation. Anyway, I would really like to get off some of the meds.
Avatar m tn (no previous heart problems) Doctor prescribed Digoxin 1.25 MCG per day, and Plavix , to be taken in addition to 81 MG aspirin, (which I have been taking daily for years). My question: Is it safe and is it necessary to take Plavix with aspirin?
Avatar f tn I think you have to weigh the risk and the advantage. I've been on coumadin for occasional a-fib for a yr and no side-effects whatsoever. I was very reluctant to start it but it it has proved to be no problem. What exactly is your reluctancy? Is his a-fib constant...if so, then there is your answer. You don't want him to have a stroke.
Avatar m tn After a (small) stroke conjectured to have been caused by atrial febrillation (accompanied by a heart rate of 160 (3x her normal rate)), my wife had a pacemaker implanted and is now on coumidin, digoxin, and metoprolol. In a brief phone conversation with her doctor, she asked how long she'd be on the coumidin. He responded, "forever.
Avatar f tn A new flutter sensation appeared 4 months ago - wore monitor and dr says its PAC - not to worry. They drive me nuts all day long, off and on and put me on higher dose of 200 mgs. Toprol/ day but still has not done away with them. I have noticed that I can predict that after I eat the PAC's will start - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course I do have some in between but these are the times they really kick in. Does anyone else have this problem?
Avatar f tn i have had a biventricular pacemaker/icd since 2004 and am taking coreg, digoxin, lisinopril, coumadin, lasix and spironlactone. i am on maximum therapy for coreg and lisinopril and my coumadin was just upped. the a-fib, v-tach is new since 9/28/07. i spent the last 4 years in relative denial of any serious issues, but now i am scared. i understand that the icd is there to save me from sudden cardiac arrest. it did just that in september. what happens now? does it get worse?
Avatar f tn I learned I have A-Fib the beginning of January, had a successful cardio-vert (after a TEE to determine the lack of blood clots)and was started on Sotalol and Coumadin . I had a routine visit with Heart failure specialist on Feb.3, EKG showed I was in A-Fib. they said I was fine and to go ahead with trip to Mexico for a week's vacation. We returned Wed., the 25th; did well on trip and walking through airports. Thurs. i was out of breath walking 200 feet. Thurs.
Avatar m tn Two doctors reviewed the EKG results and said they would have to consult an EP specialist. I was prescribed Coumadin and metoprolol tartrate. The doctors have not decided on a procedure yet but said that I could possibly have a cardioversion or ablation. What are the advantages/disadvantages to these procedures?
Avatar f tn Coumadin is an anti-cougulant and asprin is just a blood thinner. Cardio's prefer to prescribe the anti-cougulants as you are at risk for a Stroke with atrial-fib. one disadvantage of the Coumadin is that you have to manage your INR levels carefully... that makes life a bit interesing when you have to go for ops, etc. and please ALWAYS mention it to your care-givers that you are using Coumadin.
Avatar m tn I took small doses of digoxin which helped my ventricles beat slower and more forcefully and of course coumadin to prevent stroke from emboli forming in the atria. I was more fortunate than others in my family who all eventually experienced a similar course but had strokes that precluded transplant.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor. My view is NO! A pacemaker does nothing to stop AFib and the AFib is why Coumadin is being taken.
Avatar m tn My dad is 94 and in heart failure, and he now has atrial fibrillation, since a fall about a month ago (we think). He said in the night he had a feeling like a short electric shock in his chest. Then his breathing went from shallow before to deeper/slower after, and his heart felt like it was beating irregularly. He didn't tell me this till around noon. He seems stable but lower energy.
Avatar f tn My husband and I would like to start trying for a baby but i'm on Betablockers for a tachycardia that no-one can find a reason for! i'm only on 1.25mg of bisoprolol, and would like to know what risks there are. I'm currently on a waiting list to see cardiology and find out what their opinion is but would like a bit of advice.
Avatar n tn My father recenlty fell, fractured his hip and I have been getting contradicting information about digoxin, since he has low blood pressure and digoxin may not be safe for him.. Thank you This discussion is related to Dijoxin Level.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar f tn Duke University Medical Center recommended the target range of 3.0 to 3.5 for the St Jude Medical leaflet valve. I have been on it since 1993. The instability has been only the last three years or so. Here's a link to a presentation that suggests vitamin K and the logic for doing so; http://www.dcpa.us/slides09/sun05.trujillo.vitk.
Avatar f tn would the coumadin and fish oil combined be the cause of this bleeding and can fish oil alone sustain my need to thin my blood for arrythmia? I am afraid to take the coumadin again. I've been off that and the fish oil since Oct. 17.
Avatar n tn my mother in law is on coumadin and has arthritis in her knees and back. Can she take or use things like ginger,or glucosamine sulfate without affecting the coumadin?
Avatar n tn before any surgery, he would have to bridge from the Coumadin to another medication such as an injectable. And then they could do his surgery, I would presume.
Avatar m tn My son who is 26 was diagnosed 5 days ago with atrial flutter and enlarged atrium. He has had EKG's and an echocardiogram so far and was immediately placed on coumadin. His cardiologist wants to do an ablation. Since his office visit he also in on an event monitor and had a run over 200 while walking up stairs carrying a case of water. His Doctor then added digoxin and a beta blocker.
290624 tn?1202328875 My EP warned me ahead of time that I would likely go in and out of AFib and SVT for up to six months after the procedure while the ablated tissue heals and scars. My PVI was unsuccessful, and I'll be having another one in a few months. Keep in mind that you're also mentally hyper-sensitive to your heart right now because you're constantly thinking about it. That can cause you to stress out a little, which can in turn, elevate your heart rate. The best advice if to take it easy.
