Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar n tn My father recenlty fell, fractured his hip and I have been getting contradicting information about digoxin, since he has low blood pressure and digoxin may not be safe for him.. Thank you This discussion is related to Dijoxin Level.
Avatar f tn I experienced AFib lately and when to hospital. Doctor put me on Digoxin, just wondering if anyone is on this drug and if it is working. This discussion is related to Synthroid and frequent heart flutters.
Avatar n tn I too have atrial fibrillation and about 3 month ago my doctor did a procedure called an AV node ablation, which did help. I was able to go off some of my meds like digoxin and Tykoson, all drugs that deal with AF.Ask your Doctor about this procedure.
Avatar m tn (no previous heart problems) Doctor prescribed Digoxin 1.25 MCG per day, and Plavix , to be taken in addition to 81 MG aspirin, (which I have been taking daily for years). My question: Is it safe and is it necessary to take Plavix with aspirin?
Avatar m tn Here at the Cleveland clinic we usually quote an 80% success rate of curing atrial fibrillation in patients who have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (on and of afib, not your case). Persistent atrial fibrillation (your case) has a much lower success rate of about 65 to 70%. These number are usually achieved with one ablation in 50%, two in 20% and three in 10% of patients. So as you can see we do take people for as we call them "three-do's", but it is not very common.
378273 tn?1262097621 PR interval: *ms QRS duration: 142 ms QT/QTc: 368/495 ms P-R-T axes: *-26 100 I want to know what PR, QRS, QT/QTc and P-R-T are The diagnosis on the top of the EKG says: Atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response (is "rapid" a good or bad sign?) Left bundle branch block (I already knew I had this; doctor not concerned) Thanks for any help with this!
290624 tn?1202328875 I've had paroxysmal atrial fibrillation for about twelve years now, and most of the time it's controlled with medication. I just had a brief episode tonight, though, but I couldn't actually feel my pulse in my neck; I could just feel a fluttering in my chest. Does this happen to anyone else? Thanks for any info - I'm freaking out!
Avatar m tn My doctor was very surprised because he had never seen atrial fibrillation in a young adult. My doctor prescribed digoxin and my heart rhythm returned to normal. About six months ago I moved to a different state. I recently went to a new doctor to have my digoxin levels checked and he noticed that my afib had returned. He was concerned because digoxin would not have been his choice of treatment and he said I should have also been taking aspirin or a blood thinner.
Avatar f tn Are there alternatives to coumadin for treating atrial fibrillation in an 89 year old male? This discussion is related to Live Health Chat: Atrial Fibrillation, April 13th (Special Guest Dr. Bruce Lindsay, Cleveland Clinic).
Avatar m tn My dad is 94 and in heart failure, and he now has atrial fibrillation, since a fall about a month ago (we think). He said in the night he had a feeling like a short electric shock in his chest. Then his breathing went from shallow before to deeper/slower after, and his heart felt like it was beating irregularly. He didn't tell me this till around noon. He seems stable but lower energy.
Avatar f tn I have the same results as you do. My blood pressure is about 130/90 and my cholesterol was 298. I am taking Crestor 20 mg a day, my ejection factor is 55 which they say is normal but I still take all these medicines for Congestive Heart Failure. Have you ever been tested for Atrial Fibrillation? If not, it is very important. It's when your heart races real fast. I have it and I am 61 years old but I take Multaq and Digoxin in very small doses. Some days I feel so weak.
Avatar m tn My question is this, since the blood clot that caused the stroke was apparently caused by the heart problem, would not her now having a pacemaker prevent a recurrence of the atrial fibrillation? And IF your answer is yes, then why would she need to be on the blood thinner for the rest of our life?
Avatar n tn I am on Crestor, Atenolol, Cartia and Digoxin and Synthroid. I had Tachicardia and Atrial Fib. I have symptoms of shortness of breath, a dry cough, extreme fatigue, short term memory loss, extreme joint pain and stiffness, poor balance, weakness at times, vision gets dark at times, neck and throat soreness. I'm going to my doctor because I can't function with these symptoms. Can you tell me which meds can cause this and what other meds I could take. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Does atrial fibrillation cause pulmonary hypertension? When I had AF (last year persistently for six months), my right side pressure in the heart was at the upper reference limit. My proBNP rose to over 2400 (upper ref. limit about 200). I had often ventilation difficulties, chest tightness. My ability to excercise was sometimes poor, sometimes ok. I had atenolol, Digoxin and Marevan medication. Thyroid Erfa was for hypothyroidism.
Avatar f tn My EP said that the atrial tachycardia was not a dangerous arrhythmia, but was a precursor for atrial fibrillation and prescribed .25 mg atenolol. I was so shocked by the diagnosis that I really did not ask good questions, so I'm hoping you can help me! 1. How likely is it that the atrial tachycardia is still a result of my heart being irritated from the ablation? I asked my doctor if it was possibly that and he said yes, possibly, but I didn't ask him how likely.
Avatar n tn Hi... I am a 37 yr old female diagnosed about four years ago with Atrial Fibrillation, Sub Ventricular Tachycardia and Mitral Valve Prolapse. I get intermittent runs of Afib or SVT lasting anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Digoxin treatment greatly reduced the number of episodes I have, but haven't eliminated them entirely. Being recently married, I wanted to start a family.
Avatar f tn It is used today mostly for atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. It has been surpassed by beta blockers and/or calcium channel blockers as a first line choice. Did you perhaps experience syncope before your ablation? High ventricular rate leads to insufficient diastolic filling time. Digoxin slows down the conduction in the AV node and increases its refractory period, and it can reduce the ventricular rate.
Avatar n tn I went back into Atrial Fib sometime this winter. I seem to become lethargic, tired, and depressed. The first time I went to the doctor he said he was sure I was fine, 3 months later I returned and told him I was not getting better, something was wrong, sure enough he listens to my heart and orders a EKG, I'm in Atril Fib once again. This time seeing a different cardiologist.
Avatar n tn My otherwise healthy 86 yo. mom was diagnised with Atrial Fibrillation and was admitted to the hospital for seven days. She is otherwise very healthy and was only on Hyzaar for blood pressure prior. She was told her heart was strong and showed minimal damage, chest Xray proved negative, stress test was passed with exceptional results, but was kept hospitalized until her heart rate stopped spiking. She is now on 5.0 mill.
Avatar f tn I also have suffered from Atrial Fibrillation and a leaky Mitral valve. The Mitral valve was repaired last November, but I continued with AFig until early this month when I underwent an electrocardioversion, and my heart is now in sinus rhythm. I take Toprol and Rythmol to help keep it that way. The Toprol/Metoprolol does tend to keep the heart rate lower than it would be without. My reading is your HR is high at rest, and normal at a slow walk, i.e.
Avatar f tn I have atrial fibrillation and possibly freguent ventricular extrasystoles in evenings and mornigs. I have hyperpareathyroidism, muscle dystonia, hypothyroidism etc. The extrasystoles are as if a calf is jerking in my chest. I had an EKG today. It was very abnormal, but I don't know how, at least AF. The nurse did not first allow me to leave the room, but an older nurse then allowed me go. What are these calf jerkings in my chest occurring when I lie in bed?
Avatar m tn Thank you for the reply. When I made a connection between my atrial fibrillation episodes and NSAID's, I asked my cardiologist about it. She was skeptical, to say the least. I find it interesting that studies have overwhelmingly proven this correlation in Great Britain and Denmark, yet no similar studies have apparently been funded in the U.S. Could Big Pharma be suppressing this information in the interest of sales of NSAID's?
Avatar m tn I've had a-fib for about 10-12 yrs. Diet pills and ephedrine brought it on. I've taken digoxin, flecanaide, and now I'm back on rhythmol 3 times a day and a small topral XL and quit my nightly ambien. Because my a-fib had increased to weekly episodes of 1-3 days, Dr told me I could go on Coumadin or sit back and wait for a stroke. I opted for the Coumadin and I haven't had a-fib since. He also is very big on ablation. Anyway, I would really like to get off some of the meds.
