Avatar n tn Is amiodarone as safe a drug as digoxin or linoxin for A-fib as far as long term side affects are concerned?
Avatar n tn 2 week old premature infant has recurrent SVT/ Atrial Flutter and has been loaded on Digoxin and Amiodarone. The plan is to continue amiodarone for another 6 months; is this safe for him?
Avatar n tn I had my first episode of afib last week, prior to that I have been having issues with them regulating my blood pressure medicine. Currently I am on amiodarone 200 mg once a day and norvasc 2.5 mg and 12.5 mg of hctz and one xarelto a day. The problem I am having is when I walk across the room from the chair to the bathroom my BP jumps up to 170/90 and makes the back of my head feel full and I get a little dizzy. Do I need to switch BP meds ?
Avatar f tn I have some Afib and some PAC's, my doc said Digoxin and Toprol do the same thing, I chose the Digoxin. Does anyone take the Digoxin for these conditions and it works? Which do you think is better?
Avatar m tn I am surprised they had you taking Digoxin and Amiodarone together??? I don't care for either drug, myself. I took Amiodarone for 9 months for SVTs. I stopped the drug because of the nasty side effects. The skipped beats were gone by then and haven't returned since.
Avatar f tn Everytime I went to the hospital for my a-fib or a-flutter that would not stop, they cardioverted me with amiodarone. From what I understand and was told by 2 EP's that amiodarone works very well for a-fib , however they would not let me take it for long term due to my age. I was told the side effects from long term use was to risky. So I was put on rhythmol then atenolol and then finally sotalol with cardizem.
Avatar n tn Cardiologist starts amiodarone hcl inj iv and after discharged after 3 days asked to continue cordarone(amiodarone) tablets along with captopril tab.
Avatar f tn After my heart attack and surgery I was put on lopressor and amiodarone for heart irregularities. Because of the bad side effects of amiodarone I was taken off of that and also my beta blocker got changed. My beta blocker was changed to metoprolol tartate ..25mg twice a day. It didn't take long before I noticed that I was having pvc's again (hadn't had while on lopressor and amiodarone) and it has progressed to where it is noticeable every day ......all day long.
Avatar f tn He has had 2 heart attacks in the past, a mini stroke, and his kidneys are compromised. He was on Amiodarone therapy for 6 years but developed tremors. He is on MANY other blood pressure meds still and takes coumadin (sp) regularly. but discontinued the Amiodarone. On June 29th he went back into afib. He was put on Digoxin. His rates are still jumping but withing range.
Avatar m tn After the op. she was put on amiodarone, digoxin and furosemide. While the MVR appeared successful the maze did not kick in, experiencing irregular heartbeats cica 90 p.m. She then had cardioversion a few days ago; her heart rhythm appears to have regularised but her pulse rate has dropped to 42-46 p.m. and she has lost a lot ef energy. She has been taken off all medication except warfarin (5 mg pd) Where do we go from here?
Avatar m tn About 6 weeks ago I got AF with an erratic heart rate between 80 and 140. My cardiologist put me on Carvedilol beta blocker and Digoxin, and two weeks ago I went onto Warfarin in prep for an electric cardioversion. Three days ago I had the cardioversion, but reverted back to AF last night. My cardiologist did say that we would "give it one try only and if I reverted back quickly then that is what my body wants to do and I would have to live with it".
Avatar n tn I have been receiving treatment for arrhythmia from the VA for about 10 years now (1999). I have had the shocks, the medication Amiodarone and now a pace maker. I take 240 MG's of Diltiazem twice a day, 100 MG of Metoprolol twice a day and one table (.125) of Digoxin a day. My last visit to the Pace Maker clinic showed that in the past 90 days it had recorded 887 instances of my heart rate going over 160 bpm's.
Avatar n tn The problem is that it can cause blood clots and that is why it needs to be treated. Amiodarone is a wonderful drug. I have seen it work countless times on the unit and had never once, seen any of the dreaded effects. Your healthcare is YOUR choice. Be as educated as you can be then make a decision, but if you do not feel confident in your cardiologist, you will never be able to trust them enough to let them make you better! Good luck.
Avatar m tn Diagnosed with CHF and DCM in 1999. Probably tachycardia-induced. Multiple ineffective DC cardioversions, months of amiodarone, years of Tikosyn, Sotalol, and so many other drugs. Had my 2nd ablation at the mayo clinic in 2007. Restored NSR for 24 hours until an echo-tech jammed the probe really hard into my chestwall, knocked back into permanent afib since then.
Avatar n tn I was to take one daily and my cardiologist would determine when I should come off Amiodarone. I took Amiodarone for 62 days. My cardiologist took several EKGs and Echo’s and determined there was no Afib so I came off Amiodarone. I was doing real well in recovery and finished my cardio rehab. A month later I started to get some shortness of breath and a racing heart beat. We both agreed that I should go back on Amiodarone.
Avatar m tn I was put on amiodarone for Long QT and 32 R/T events shown by 24-hour Holter. Heart steadied in 6 months but after a year TSH showed 38 and amio was changed to propafenone. Four ECGs and thyroid test in last six months show normal. But symptoms continue: Pre-syncope, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, 6 to 10 days a month. My cardiologist is alarmed by the pre-syncope.he suggests : another Holter, return to amiodarone, see electrophysiologist, EEG for brain conduction.
183222 tn?1375334552 digoxin is a very good med for svt my daughter is currently taking digoxin in additon to coreg, inspra and vasotec and the amount of svt is down considerably and was the only medication that has improved her overall condition she had an ablation but it was unsuccessful as they were not able to ablate on the left due a mass at the mitral-aortic junction and all pac's and svt are coming from the left holter before digoxin showed 749 svt after digoxin was added svt down to 166
Avatar m tn When my husband got atrial fibrillation and his Cardiologist wanted to put him on Amiodarone, I was well-versed enough to question the decision and he went on Flecainide instead. From the research I did when my husband had AFib (since cured with ablation), I was given to understand that Amiodarone is often used as a last-ditch attempt when other avenues have already been pursued. Flecainide is a better option if you can take it.
Avatar f tn m on Metoprolol 200mg, Warfarin 7 mg, Digoxin and Omeprazole 20mg [so that this cocktail goes down without blowing-up my intestines.] Talk about a "zombie" I could be the Queen of The Zombie's! It's not that I'm sleepy......I'm more like a thoughtless, mindless, moron!!!!! I'm told it's the BetaBlockers that are doing it and to just "go with it" until, hopefully, the Cardioversion puts my heart on a more regular beating pattern.
Avatar n tn for letting this condition go for so long i have week heart muscles. i am on three heart medications amiodarone, digoxin and carvedilol i am also on cumadin. i know the cardiomyopathy is hereditary and my doctor says a lot of it can be controled by medicine now. what is the average life expectancy for cardiomyopathy and what should i be doing for my health.
Avatar f tn My husband and I would like to start trying for a baby but i'm on Betablockers for a tachycardia that no-one can find a reason for! i'm only on 1.25mg of bisoprolol, and would like to know what risks there are. I'm currently on a waiting list to see cardiology and find out what their opinion is but would like a bit of advice.
Avatar n tn My father recenlty fell, fractured his hip and I have been getting contradicting information about digoxin, since he has low blood pressure and digoxin may not be safe for him.. Thank you This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/239460'>Dijoxin Level</a>.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar m tn Greetings, My background: Routine thyroid blood test by cardiologist regarding Crestor, etc. in Aug '12 reveals TSH 0.02, T4 1.9. T3 OK at 4.6 (little high): so, hyperthyroid. Primary care physician orders ultrasound and comes back with slightly enlarged right lobe and two nonspecific nodules, larger being .9 cm. PCP sends me to Endocrinologist - first appointment is early September.
