Usually when my patients give a similar description of symptoms, it turns out to be yeast, so
Diflucan is
a good medication to start with. If symptoms persist, I will often do
a wet mount (look at the discharge under the microscope) a pH test (helps to distinguish yeast from bacterial infections (home tests can be purchased at your local drug store)
and sometimes a culture. I would usually rule out gonorrhea and chlamydia just as a routine part of my protocol too.
