Common Questions and Answers about Differin and retinol

differin

Avatar f tn I’ve been using prescription strength differin gel for acne for many years, and would like to add a retinol moisturizer to my skincare routine for anti-aging benefits. Would like to know if the combination is safe?
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been using differin every alternate nights for 3 months without problems. But just last sun, I rubbed some onto my eyelids and facial rashes started to explode. They were not itchy at first but started to spread and becoming very itchy. My Gp said its contact dermatitis. But how could it be as I have been using it for 3 months? I put hydrocortisone cream on them but nothing seems to subside. Now my whole face is covered with itchy swell rashes. What should I do?
Avatar n tn I have just read that you are not supposed to use any product with retinol palmitate while pregnant. I am 20 weeks along and just looked at my facial lotion..yup retinol palmitate...
Avatar n tn Your mother should take a comfortably cool bath and stop using retinol. Covering the affected area with bandages and dressings can help protect the skin and prevent scratching. You should choose mild soaps without dyes or perfumes and apply calamine lotion on the rash. Please take a second opinion from a dermatologist if the symptoms persist.
Avatar f tn I started using a Retinol product specifically for under the eyes. because my undereye skin is thinning and starting to show wrinkles. The product was described as "Retinol 4X strength but buffered for the eye area. After 3 days of use, the skin around my eyes started peeling. It made my skin around the eyes so dry that my wrinkles show up evey more so than before. Also, the skin around my eyes is so sensitive now that even applying moisturizer makes it burn.
Avatar f tn I used a dual retinol cream by avon for 2 nights, mainly on my cheeks and above my lip. After the first night I noticed that I had visible pores on my cheeks where I had none before and I was worried it was from the retinol I so tried to find info on the net about retinol but almost everything I read claimed retinol made pores smaller so I thought perhaps it was just a strange phase and used the retinol a second night. The next morning I had even more visible pores and they were even larger.
Avatar n tn I recently began going for facials and my aesthetician told me to stop using my retinol products, as she said it ages and thins the skin. She recommends glycolic peels instead. This is contrary to everything I've heard. I thought retinol thickened the skin and stimulated collagen growth, and glycolic peels thinned the skin. Am I mistaken?
Avatar n tn Is it normal to have such a reaction and if so, how can I help this heal, and how long will it probably take? By the way, I stopped applying the Differin when I got the reaction. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I am in my late 30's and have been using retinol for my face for years now and i find it really effective. I was wondering if i can use it under my eyes as well. The skin under my eyes have fine lines, and looks dull and dry. if not, what can you recommend I could use to make it more youthful looking? Thank you.
Avatar f tn The vitamin A in most foods is perfectly safe, as it has to go through a LONG metabolic process before it reaches retinol, which is the final product, and can be somewhat toxic in high amounts to your fetus. The only big food source of retinol is liver, so just don't eat too much liver during pregnancy and you'll be fine.
Avatar f tn Im not a doctor, however i have taken Differin and i would advise taking it constantly until the prescription runs out. Once it runs out, assess your skin- do you really need to keep taking it?? If this answer is a yes, refill the prescription and keep taking the Differin(In relation to taking it "permanently", i recommend doing this self- assessment everytime you fill the prescription, no matter how long you have been using it).
Avatar m tn he put me on oracea 40mg once a day and differin gel 0.3%....i was reading the paper that comes with oracea~doxycycline and it says it doesnt kill bacteria now im getting worried because minocycline does kill bacteria now im worried i will break out more from the oracea.it says its for rosacea but doest oracea work to kill acne to or no?and the differin gel 0.3% isnt this not as strong drying to dry up pimples as retin a micro 0.1%?
Avatar f tn (i used it as a day and night cream, so twice a day but i dont know the dosage of retinol in it)
Avatar f tn I am very into skincare and cleanse and moisturise my face every night and using hylauronic acid and retinol (with a formulated retinol eye cream) as I was told this might help. I drink 2 litres of water everyday and sleep atleast 8 hours a night so I can't figure out why this problem persists. It's starting to really get me down as it's very obvious still even with makeup as in the second photo.
Avatar f tn Ok so I have been prescribed differin gel for "acne" problems. I recently had a huge one with deep cyst (when i touch it i can feel hardness under the skin)...then it formed a white head and oozed a lot of pus (and some blood) after which it stopped being painful. My question is can I still keep on applying differin gel on top of the acne even though it's "broken" skin? The differin seems to help calm the inflammation pretty quick and dry it out...

Avatar m tn Hi there, over the past two weeks I have developed a reaction on my face that looks like red indented marks and is causing an unevenness to my skin tone on my cheeks. I have had no history of it before this and I want to make it go away but I don't know how. I use a wide range of products daily for skincare, for reference. These include, Niacinamide + Zinc serum, Retinol Serum, Vitimin C serum and I derma roll once a week. Attached is a picture of my face for reference, Please help!

Avatar n tn You can try inexpensive, over-the-counter types like ROC. If you use retinol, use once a day, apply at night and wear sunscreen during the day.
Avatar n tn When I rub my cheeks and side of my nose there is a fishy smell. I noticed this when I started using snail cream. So I stopped using it for a week however the smell is still there.
Avatar n tn Due to a reaction to some skin cream, I burned my face/neck. I tried to clean the angry reddish brown spots with iodine which only exacerbated the situation and made these burns turn an angry, painful dark red/black color. I used neosporin and fucidin (the latter prescribed by a doctor at a walk-in clinic who, after refusing to hear about how the burns occurred, had little else in terms of advice).
Avatar m tn In foods of animal origin, the major form of vitamin A is an ester, primarily retinyl palmitate, which is converted to an alcohol (retinol) in the small intestine. The retinol form functions as a storage form of the vitamin, and can be converted to and from its visually active aldehyde form, retinal.
4207298 tn?1409945913 As for a potato chip, there is no nutritional value in eating them. They are empty calories, as any nutrition in them is so minimal and the fat and salt content of most of them so high this is just fun food but is always bad for you. But again, the source for your Vitamin A should mostly be by eating foods high in beta carotene, which is the safe way to get it. Your Diet Diary has more important uses than looking for Vitamin A, I guess is the key here. All the best.
Avatar m tn I had a similar reaction to a sample I received from a friend, not knowing the form or strength of the retinol in it (dumb of me) and found the only relief came after a clay bath (minimum 1/2 cup) and then keeping a moist plaster of the same kind of clay on the affected area every day for as long as I could. I'd say I felt 80% relief just after one bath and one pack.
