Avatar m tn I have had the virus for a LONG time, and through the Valtrex and knowing my body well...I have not given it to any of my partners (Fist Pumping YES!). I don't want money to be the reason this changes. Please advice.
Avatar n tn There is not a cheap generic version of valtrex available for purchase in the US.
Avatar m tn ll see an improvement on hsv vaccination it will be when, the license for valtrex runs out and a generic medication take over. other wise, at 7 dollars a pill the business is too big to spoiled it.
Avatar m tn I have taking both Valtrex & Acyclovir in the past and for me, Valtrex seems to work a lot better for clearing up an ob quicker. Since moving back to the U.S. from Europe, I cannot believe how expensive Valtrex is here in the U.S.! I just want to get confirmation that there is a Generic Valtrex that is NOT Acyclovir - it that correct? My online pharmacy is offering me Valcyclovir which is a lot cheaper than Valtrex but I just want to make sure it isn't Acyclovir before I purchase it.
Avatar f tn so for instance if with your insurance you pay $30 for non-generic drugs on the approved list and $10 for generics on the approved list - you'd be paying $20 less/month for your valtrex. Typically it's 30% reduction in price when it goes generic initially for paying out of pocket. drugstore.com currently offers 30 valtrex tablets for $208.
Avatar m tn The virus is shed from the area of actual lesions when they are present as well as from the entire anal and genital area. in between obvious lesions, the virus sheds periodically from the anal and genital area. suppressive therapy helps to significantly reduce this shedding as well as obvious lesions so that there are less disruptions to your sex life as well as less shedding to potentially infect you.
Avatar m tn Can any member in this forum tell me what is the difference between thyroxine & levothyroxine. I know that they are mirror image. I want to know could be their any problem if a person who is using thyroxine sodium for treatment change to other one or from levothyroxine to thyroxine is changed, Could both of them any significant role in replacement. It may alter treatment process.
Avatar f tn I heard within the past few weeks valtrex is now generic. The generic form will still be quite expensive for the next few months until pharmacy's and insurances' can adopt it to their formularies. I dont think it would be an option for me for at least a year. I havent experienced any side effects whatsoever with acyclovir so its been great. No outbreaks either. The hardest part for me is managing my stress level and not letting myself get too run-down.
Avatar f tn I guess I am wondering if it really reduces the viral shedding (What is the difference between shedding and an outbrea anyway) or transmission to an uninfected partner? What about L-Lysine and something about kelp that helps to reduce it too. I guess I am just confused since I dont know what an outbreak really is! Sometimes I forget that I have this....
Avatar m tn They switched me to Venaflaxine when it came out and I had to take twice as much to get the same effect 75mg up to 150mg of generic and I was nearly a successful suicide!!! The insurance company is giving me grief over taking name brand over generic, even though Pfizer is kicking in $75 toward my prescription. They want me to take the generic (NO THANK YOU) or Cymbalta (NO THANK YOU AGAIN) b/c it gave me suicidal ideations ALL DAY LONG!!!
1302779 tn?1287405029 i have generic valtrex but i also have chronic migraine and i feel the valtrex gives me a headache. do u get side effects from valtrex?
1713150 tn?1314467342 By the way, my suppressive therapy dose is 500 mg valtrex (the generic of valtrex) 2x daily. So... after the 1st and only outbreak I was taking 1,000 mg 2x daily.
Avatar f tn lysine really doesn't do much at all for genital herpes. we don't recommend it here at all. Most folks get more than enough already naturally in their diets. You want to take the valtrex - it will give you the fastest and the best results. The herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a free resource to learn more about it at. The valtrex dose should be 1 gm 2x/day for 7-10 days. You can apply the h balm to active lesions if you want.
Avatar n tn He said that valtrex is no $50 for a fill now that there is a generic brand. He said that it should work the same and you take it the same, but he said if I notice I am getting an outbreak that I need to talk to my doc about going back on the other valtrex and see if I can get it cheaper. This has thrown me for a loop as I am scared that it wont work the same or that I will get a small break out that I wont notice and infect my boyfriend.
Avatar n tn Generic valacyclovir and brand name Valtrex are not the exact same formula. The generic is not nealry as effective. I took the brand name valtrex by GlaxoSmithKline for 9 yrs with ZERO outbreaks. My insurance changed last year and they will no longer pay for the brand name. In the 9 months I've been taking the same dose of the generic valacyclovir, I've had several outbreaks. I've tried 3 different generic manufacturers without success.
Avatar m tn is there a side effect to taking Anusol suppositories if one has HSV2?
Avatar m tn Valtrex is the dominant brand name, valacylcovir the generic name. Do not take both; it would be an overdose. (Probably not harmful, but not recommended.) You get maximum effectiveness against oral herpes with the 2 g (2000 mg) dose taken twice a day apart; higher, more frequent, or more prolonged treatment will make no difference. 2) You are typical in not having an identifed trigger of your outbreaks. Most people cannot pinpoint particular events.
Avatar n tn After the exclusive right has lapsed, a generic drug company, can replicate the medication. There should not be a medical difference, the difference usually is a lower price due to free market competition. .
Avatar n tn I have read that Valtrex and Valacyclovir can be used for the suppression of herpes , does that hold true for Valcivir also,, isn't Valacyclovir the generic of Valciver ,, if yes what is the usual dosage for the suppression of the virus?
Avatar f tn ve been on generic, Synthroid and Levoxyl at one time or another, and I found absolutely no difference among them. However, my endo is one who doesn't like generic. He put me on Levoxyl. You have to chose your battles, I guess, so I'm keeping him happy. Interestingly enough, after switching to Levoxyl from generic (same dose), my labs actually took a nose dive.
Avatar f tn So Grace, because I have hsv1 and NOT hsv2, but its on my genitals... Is there really any difference between the 2 strains at all?
