difference between percocet and oxycodone

i had knee surgery at end of Dec. and am just now coming off the pain pills and am going nuts. I'm sure its the percocet but am alittle confused about the difference between Percocet and the oxycontin as they both have said....OXYCODONE... on the label is the oxy just a time release percocet?

Actually the molecule difference between oxycontin and heroin is 3, not so similar with percacet .......... and how you use i.e orally snorting smoking oxycontin has a huge impact on your addiction and the tolerance and the effects on your body. There is a difference between these drugs.

Everyone reacts differently to different medicines. The only difference between Combunox and percocet is the added ingredient. Percocet has acetaminophen and the Combunox has ibuprofen. It just depends on what works best for you and you will have to try each one to see how it would work for you. Percocet comes in various strength's and to my understanding the combunox only comes in one which is 400mg ibuprophen/ 5 mg oxycodone.

Percocet is Oxycodone and Acetaminophen. Percocet is a brand name and there is no liquid Percocet. There is a liquid version of Oxycodone and Acetaminophen called Roxicet, however. It's not necessarily measured in mg's though. It's measured in ml's in which 5ml contaings 5mg of Oxycodone and 325mg of Acetaminophen. Now that I've written all of that...I have to ask..why do you ask?

Here is the easiest way to look at it, (i think?) ... Percocet has tylenol in it, however, oxycodone and oxycontin are just straight percocet, no tylenol. I believe that oxycodone is the generic name for Roxicodone, which is also obviously percocet without the tylenol. Oxycontin and oxycodone are the same thing, EXCEPT oxycodone is a quick release tablet, and oxycontin is a slow release of the same med. Hydrocodone is the ingredient in Vicodin and Lortab.

I take the meds for real pain, and ran out of the percocet, because I try not to take as much oxycontin, becuase it makes me tired and gives me a headache. Any ideas?

I have been taking percocet (oxycodone acetaminophen) 5/325 1 pill 3 times a day. That was a great system that worked for me. Recently I was prescribed oxycodone minus the acetaminophen. I understand the risks of liver damage. However, I have had NO relief since I began this new drug. I'm confused because it is the same drug minus the Tylenol. Anyone else experiencing this? Would taking a higher dose of the oxycodone (not Percocet which is oxy with acetaminophen) help me better?

I'm not sure of your question and the answer you're looking for but I'll try. Oxycontin is the extended release form of Oxycodone. It should last up to 12 hrs. opposed to 4-6 hrs. with the Oxycodone. I don'rt feel that there is any difference between the two as far as pain management goes. Why do you ask?

The Only Difference Between These Two Medications that I see is the: inactive ingredients. Small Example: (Oxycodone) contains: magnesium stearate, microcrystaline cellulose, silicon dioxide and stearic acid, and numerous D&C, FD&C colors.

Because saying Percocet is the only safe drug for your fetus makes no sense to me at all Percocet is still an opiate and is infact the exact same as the 30mg oxycodone you have been taking. The only difference is that the Percocet is a lower dose of oxycodone and it contains Tylenol but its the same narcotic in both meds and is no different except I would think Percocet would be worse because of the Tylenol which can be DEVESTATING to the liver.

From what I read, they are the same as a Percocet (oxycodone immediate release) except they have had a polymer added when manufactured. This is suppose to deter abuse because they cannot be crushed (too hard) and they cannot be liquifiedf for iv abuse because they turn into a gel like substance. It seems they are a recently FDA approved form of oxycodone manufactured with an abuse deterrent in them. The pain relief should be the same.

just the opiate and some other minor additives. For me there is no differnce between a 10mg oxycodone or a 10/500mg percocet even though they are both oxycodone. So yeah.... a 5/500mg vicoden is probably down on the list where an 80mg oxycodone is at the top. It also depends on how many are prescribed at whatever time interval because most addicts do not stick to their presctiption such as myself.

The difference between a 2.5mg percocet and an 80mg oxycontin is astronomical, and could mean the difference between life and death. Cutting a time release form of medication can lead to fatality...these are very serious medications with very serious side effects.
