Common Questions and Answers about Difference between paxil cr and paxil

paxil

Avatar n tn I take paxil 25 cr now and it is working pretty good. My doc upped me to 37.5 and I noticed no difference either so went back down to 25 without a problem. I think as long as you are taking paxil going down on dose is not an issue, it's if you go off all at once but my son who is 14 and has just developed panic attacks was put on zoloft 50 mgs and it has helped him. I took zoloft first but gave me gastro problems so doc wanted me to switch.
467977 tn?1262714747 The only difference, I am told my the pharmacist, between the 20mg and the 25mg CR is the time release factor. I would check with your pharmacist to see if it's beneficial to take it the way you are. I don't see why not, but I am not a clinician. To answer your other question about knowing when the Paxil kicks in: I didn't take Klonopin, I took Ativan. I only used the Ativan for those breakthrough panic attacks. I started to notice they were becoming few and far between.
Avatar n tn t beleive it took me so long to make the connection between the paxil cr and being tired. It just kind of crept up on me...sometimes I would feel drugged, it reminded me of when I was in the hospital after major surgery and I was just floating, like if I never moved a muscle again I would be fine with that. I can't beleive I never even thought to blame the paxil cr for that.
Avatar m tn to me and a friend of mine who also tried it, Paxil CR didn't work nearly as well as regular paxil. I gave Paxil CR about 8 months, and it never got better.
Avatar f tn Dr, can you you explain this study they did in Canada about this, how true it is, and should I quit the Paxil CR, maybe ask my Dr to put me on something else. I started with 12.5 in Feb. and now went to 25. Any info would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was on Paxil about 20 mg for about 10 years. I weaned down to 10 mg for a couple of weeks and then off and didn't have a problem. However, the paxil never did help my anxiety (only worked on depression for me). Several people I know of have had no problem with weaning off of it. However, I purposely did not read any websites because I am susceptible to suggestion so if I had read any withdrawal symptoms, I might have suffered them myself.
1512520 tn?1290258130 Well have gone to the doc and he has given me a 50 mg 2x daily of Topamax to take with the Paxil CR. I am going to take just the Topamax for a month or so hoping to drop some of the weight gained then start back on the Paxil CR. I will continue to update as I know there are others out there who are in the same boat! p.s. its quiet expensive if you dont have insurance coverage and from other posts the generic versions arent the same.
Avatar n tn I have been taking 37.5 mg/day of Paxil CR for several years and because my panic attacks were interfering with my ability to work, my medical doctor and psychologist suggested that I switch to 50 mg/day of Zoloft. I am now on day 5 of Zoloft and can NOT stop crying. I'm also dizzy and nauseaous. I feel like I'm losing my mind and want to know if this is "normal" during transitioning from one SSRI to another and if so, WHEN WILL THIS END?
467977 tn?1262714747 Does anyone know if these are the same? I used to take Paroxetine generic (civilian world) and now realized the army pharmacy gives me Paxil but they label it "Paxil (Paroxetine)" on the bottle....hmmmmmmmmm.............
Avatar f tn No, Paxil can't be tapered to another ssri anymore than Effexor can be tapered to another snri. Same theory should apply, shouldn't it? One of the reasons for this is that Paxil is just stronger than any other antidepressant in its affinity for both choline and serotonin receptors.
Avatar f tn I started the end of February and recently went from 12.5 CR to 25 CR. I am 55 post menopause. In 2003 I had a biopsy that came back negative for microcalcifications. All mammograms since have been negative. Of course being a worry wart I researched Paxil online and read some articles linking prolactin increasing from some SSRIS specifically Paxil to increase a Breast Cancer risk. The Paxil is working for me after all of these years of feeling out of sorts.
Avatar m tn I am 3 weeks back on Paxil after a failed attempt to switch medications to Lexapro. I have read a lot that Paxil loses its effectiveness after the first time. I (stupidly) have started, stopped & restarted Paxil on several different occasions and it always has seemed to work. I was on paxil 20mg originally then stopped cold turkey and went back on at Paxil CR 12.5. Upped dose over time to Paxil CR 25mg.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking my Paxil CR 25mg approx 3 weeks ago due to loss of insurance and job. I had been taking them for over 2 years and before that I took other anti-depressants for several years. Since stopping the pills I have been experiencing insomnia and "dizzy spells". The spells last about 1 second, can occur when I take a deep breath, or move my eyes fast, among other reasons, and happen 50+ times per day. I feel this is a direct effect from stopping the pills.
Avatar m tn m going on 11 years of GAD that have been relatively taken care of until the past few months. I have taken paxil and paxil cr over the years and it has worked great, even when I cut cold turkey and went through nasty withdrawals. I could always count on it working when I went back on. Fastforward to today.... I am starting week #5 of paxil cr (week 1 = paxil cr 12.5, week 2 = paxil cr 25, week 3- current = paxil 37.5) Everywhere I read its just "keep waiting it out.
Avatar m tn had set in with Paxil CR. I was on Paxil CR 25mg and now it looks like once I get the last bit of Lexapro 5mg out of my system I will probably be bumped up to Paxil CR 37.5. My question is, what constitutes a "poop out"? I hear that term a lot and really don't know what it means. Does that mean that when trying to go up in a dose it still didn't help?
Avatar f tn Hi all, Just wondering, is there any 1 out there that has had a positive experience with Paxil CR. I read alot of horror stories and am just wondering if it has actually helped anyone. You see, I have had panic disorder my whole life. I am 51 now. I was put on Paxil CR a few years ago and I thought it was a miracle drug. Totally got rid of my panic attacks. Still have some anxiety but am menopausal also.
Avatar n tn I have recently switched from paxil to prozac because of weight gain my doc told me to just stop taking the paxil and take 1 pill of the prozac for 6 days then take to full dose after 6 days everything was going go until the 5 day of taking the prozac now i am have anxiety attacks and i just feel so out of it i was just wondering if it was just withdrawls from the paxil or has the prozac even had time to kick in yet just tired of feeling so down and out.
Avatar n tn I was suffering from Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia. I was on 25mg of Paxil CR for 2 years and my dose was lowered a few months ago to 12.5mg a day. I have started to have some panic attacks... few and far between, but I got so used to not having any attacks and living a more normal life. I really don't want to go back up to 25mg of Paxil - I gained 40 pounds in less than 6 months and have gained a total of 55 pounds now.

Avatar m tn Does anyone else have HORRIBLE nausea from taking Paxil CR? I am on 25 mgs. and it is helping greatly with the depression. BUT the nausea is insane. I take it at bedtime with a snack and I am sick for half of the next day. Ginger tea, gingerale, Coke, oatmeal. Totally bland diet. It is one heck of a diet plan. Please help.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Paxil CR, 12.5mg for anxiety. I have been on it for about 3 months and week. It helped somewhat but there are days when I don't feel like myself. I would rather make some lifestyle changes to combat my anxiety. So, my doctor told me to stop taking it. I was afraid because of the horror stories that I've heard. So, he gave me a prescription for the regular Paxil; take 2 10mg for the first 3 days and then 1 pill a day for two days. I have the prescription...
Avatar f tn who has been on Paxil and how did it do for you? Did it really help with anxiety and panic attacks - what about side effects?
Avatar f tn Hi all, I have been on Paxil Cr for a few years. 25 mg. It has worked really well for my panic attacks but recently I lost insurance and won't be eligible for medicare for 8 months so I ordered my prescription from online pharmacy which I have done before with no problem. Since I was low on my meds and didn't want to run out before it got here I reduced dosage. Took 1/2 pill every other day only problem I had was balance issues which got better after a week.
Avatar m tn heart papitation, shacking all over the body, muscle twitches, not able to sleep, I got enought and i went back to regular doctor and gave me 10 mg generic Paxil and taled me that I am suffering for high anxiety ( common on i know that). After the first soe of medication i have a panic attact right away, afre all week of suffering i came back to my old doctor who described teh paxil in the begging . He changed the Paxil to CR 12.
Avatar f tn I started the end of February with 12.5CR and just increased to 25 CR with no side effects and actually feeling much better these days. Of course being a worry wart I researched Paxil online and found a study that suggested Paxil is the worst SSRI to be on and that it is the only one that may increase my breast cancer risk. I was wondering how true these statements are and should I ask my Dr to switch me to another SSRI just in case. I am 55 years old and post menopause.
730044 tn?1231438020 Hey! Today I decided to take myself off of the Paxil CR 37.5mg I have been taking this for months now and I have gained a lot of weight! I have read about the withdraw affects and I can not believe it! This is a horrible med to be on people! While it works damn good...you put on a lot of weight! I can not take the way I look anymore! I would rather have the "zaps" than continue to gain weight!
Avatar f tn I started out taking 20 mg of paxil and ended up on 40 mg of paxil CR. All together, I took paxil for 6 years. I decided to stop taking it because it kept me from concentrating and memorizing which is vital since I am in college to be a school teacher. In addition, I gained so much weight due to the medicine. My doctor helped me get off of the paxil which was a horrible experience that I never want to repeat again! Now my anxiety has come back and it is becoming worse.
Avatar m tn Im confused. I have been on SSRI's (Paxil & Paxil CR) in the past and they worked and I have come off on several occations, but currently I tried to swith to another SSRI which didn't work. Now I have been switched back to Paxil CR and I am currently on a new high of 37.5 milligrams for a week and a half and still don't feel that great. Is it usual to have a set back at every dose increase before it gets better?
