Avatar m tn Not sure if you are talking about oxycontin or oxycodone pills in various mixes and forms. Either way, oxycontin and percoccet have the narcotic oxycodone in it. Oxycontin is pure oxycodone in a time release form while percoccet is a mix of oxycodone and another OTC pain reliever. Oxycodone is a stronger narcotic then the narcotic in vicodin which is hydrocodone. Both will cause WD. The WD from oxycodone was always much worse for me then hydrocodone but some say it's the same.
Avatar f tn What is the difference between a 4 milligram Dilaudin and a 40 milligram oxycontin. Is there a reason my Doctor is giving me such a lower dose of Dilaudin? Is it because the Dilaudin is a stronger medication. From what I have read on the internet Dilaudin seems to be a more powerful drug. Thank you, Freedom.

1325672 tn?1290084214 What do they usually use? And my drug store has a sign. No Oxycontin in store. The store wants three days notice. So if they give me that tomorrow. I will have to wait.
699217 tn?1323438700 I wanted to know what the difference is between hydrocodone and like-oxycontin or oxycodone, Percocet, tramadol, is this all just types of hydrocodone? All I ever took was hydrocodone....
Avatar m tn It's sad that doctor's seem to be behind the studies and truth on pain meds prescribed to those actually in pain. Thing is, those who take long acting meds for actual pain almost never ever abuse, nor get addicted. You may get dependent, but not like someone snorting and taking them for fun and the high. A lot of doctors balk at Oxycontin simply because people abuse them. There's a difference between people in pain not getting high, and people taking them illegally to get high.
Avatar f tn Oxycodone is known to be physically more addicting than morphine, although for people who are allergic to morphine, Oxycontin can work well. I used to switch between the two. If the oxy stopped working as well, i switched to morphine at the same strength and vice versa. I have been only on MSContin and Dilaudid for 5 years now. I lowered my pain medications drastically over a matter of about 10 years.

Avatar f tn What is the exact difference between hydrocodone/Vicodin/ loratab and oxycodone/ Percocet? I know Percocet is supposed to be lil stronger but what is the real difference? Does one work better on other pains? What's the difference btw hydro and oxy? Thanks!!
725248 tn?1316162245 I can honestly say I have no trust in my doctor. They did have me on 40mg oxycontin for a while and then he pulled me off that and put me on Opana and that didn't work or at least the doesage was not enough. This has been a 3 year nightmare for me. I went in today and seen his PA and he wanted to put me back on 20mg oxycontin 3 times a day and I said no it was not working.
558096 tn?1255887002 Actually the molecule difference between oxycontin and heroin is 3, not so similar with percacet .......... and how you use i.e orally snorting smoking oxycontin has a huge impact on your addiction and the tolerance and the effects on your body. There is a difference between these drugs.
Avatar f tn this hole opiate scene just scares me and i understand there is a difference between being physically dependent and being a addict i just dont want to fall down the path of being a addict and abusing medication. My current med list is Cymbalta 90mg a day lyrica 225mg 2x a day Ms-Contin 30mg 3x a day MSIR (instant release morphine) 15mg as need for BT Mobic 15mg once a day Zanaflex (tizanidine) 4mg 3x a Day Adderall XR 30mg Once a day BusPar 7.
Avatar f tn I broke my c2 in a car accident 4 years ago. I had to get a screw put in-between my c1,2 and 3 to hold my neck together. I am trying to get on a pain management. I can not take oxycodone with acetemetaphine due to head aches and the oxycodone pill form gives me the bad mood changes. What about the oxycodone capsule? I have to go to the doctors in a couple of hours and think I may ask her about the capsules but I'd like to hear some input.
Avatar f tn I have chronic pancreatitis and had half my pancreas removed less than a year ago.. And still dealing with surgical pain and the continual pain from the pancreatitis.I'm on morphine 2 15mg every 4hrs which worked, well, it worked really good at first now it won't even help make a headache go away! I just weaned myself off of OxyContin because I don't like taking a lot of meds. .
Avatar m tn Recently I read that if you take more than 40 mg of OxyContin at one time then it can cause death or permanent brain damage. Well when I was ages 14 and 16 I took one of my mom's 80 mg OxyContin pill and I remember I felt like throwing up for like 16 hours straight. I took it in the evening, went to bed, and woke up the next day still very nauseous. I started to feel completely fine about 20 hours after I took it.
Avatar m tn No there is a big diference between a typical addict and someone who becomes dependent on pain meds. Addicts like I was think and scheme drugs and steal or lye. A person who becomes dependent on pain meds legally doesn't have near as many drug related problems or cravings.
Avatar m tn The only difference between oxycodone and oxycontin is one is a time release and the other is not. Oxycontin is sopose to last 12 hours. Oxycodone is soposed to be taken every 4-6 hours. There are many myths between these 2 drugs. Just google "Difference beteeen Oxycodone and Oxycontin " and a heap of stuff comes up.
647120 tn?1256601651 When I started seeing a pain manager for chronic leg pain last fall, she said it was nerve pain without doing any diagnostics. She put me on morphine, and I've had ups and downs with it. Now I am considering going back to square one by weening off of morphine and seeing what my pain level is. It is almost a year since I had L4-5 spinal fusion, and I hate the side effects, costs, and stigma that go with taking this class of drugs. Has anyone tried this? What was your experience?
Avatar f tn Will clonidine help me with withdrawal ? I have had 5 operations on my hip and have been prescribed oxycontin and hydromorphine for over a year. I tried getting off them but can't do it as the symtoms are terrible..Will clonidine help me? My medical dr has prescribed them to me and I havent tried them yet as I need some input on them.
Avatar m tn if it was me i would go back to the percs for the taper because percs and oxy are the same narcotic only difference is percs have tylenol and oxy do not and they are extended release. since you are taking 80mg a day you would be safe if you can get some 10/325 percs and the reason i say use percs for the taper is because you will know exactly how much you are taking instead of guessing while cutting the oxys up.
Avatar m tn Someone very close to me has been using morphine for over 15 years, and has severe stomach issues that are to this day unresolved. He was hospitalized for 5 days about four years ago, and then for 6 days about half of a year ago. It only happens every so often, but it's really a concern, especially since none of the specialsist, universities, and the nations best health care can figure out what's wrong with him.
Avatar m tn ve seen three with that title and the difference between each one is unbelievable - not just in personality but in attitude and knowledge. I don't believe in recommending a specific medication as we are all very different - and our pain is different. A good PMP should be able to make adjustments in your medications. Do you have nerve pain? I wasn't aware of how much nerve pain was a component of my pain until a PMP prescribed a medication to treat nerve pain.
Avatar n tn I dont see how it could show up different, since the active drug in both oxycodone and oxycontin is the same drug, oxycodone. Oxycontin has been formulated where part of the drug is released as soon as you take it and the rest is made do dissolve more slowly. Thats why your not supposed to chew or break the tablet. It's like taking morphine IR or morphine ER. They will both show up as morphine.
Avatar f tn What is the difference between Oxycontin and percocet? I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?
