Because the Fentanyl [patch was actually being absorbed into my body on the first day and then I would go through withdrawl the next day and over and over and so on and so on and I felt horrible until a doctor finally took me seriously ( My regular Pain dr was busy so I saw the PA in his office) She said that my body was getting accustomed too quickly to the drugs and I didn't want them just to up the dosage So she said that she was going to put me on different meds. Here is my question .

I did some research and some of the top side-effects with the Morphine are Headaches and Drowsiness and dizziness and being light-headed. There are many more than that but those are the ones that were at the top. I don't know if that helped you or not BUT I hope that it did. I really think you might want to consider talking to your NP about switching your BT meds.

I was just curious, does fentanyl patches work the same way as percocets? And what is the difference btw. a opioid, vs. opiate? The more knowledgable to all these drugs the better huh.

I have been on Fentanyl patches for about 6 months and it was prescribed to wean me off of Norco 10/325 2 pills 4 x day after a surgery. I got as high as 75 mcg patch of Fentanyl every 3 days and then I developed some kind of allergy. The Pain Dr. says the allergy is to the adhesive, not the fentanyl. I am now down to 37 mcg every 2 days because the patches itch like crazy. I wake up in the morning and my patches are scratched off(even withTagederm) and there is blood on my sheets. My Dr.

I found a few charts and they are all basically similar. 315-404mgs of morphine is equivilant to about 100 mcg of fentanyl. Thats oral morphine. The IV morphine chart is different. I do know that fentany is one of the strongest opiate medications available.. I believe it is much stronger than oral morphine. At least that is what I have heard and read. I also saw a show on TLC (Dr. G Medical Examiner) and she also stated fentanyl is the strongest opiate medication you can be prescribed.

My wife has been perscribed fentanyl patches and has been told not to eat grapefruit, does this apply to all citrus fruit ie.

Hi and welcome to the pain management community! It is very important to understand that everyone responds to medication differently. Just because the Butrans patches didn't work for someone else, doesn't mean that it won't work for you. I have read posts from others that have said that they work very well and some that said the Butrans patches didn't work well for their pain. Everyone is different. Fentanyl patches are 80-100 times stronger than morphine.

I thought you said you are on the Fentanyl but would prefer to return to the Morphine. Please clarify. And I do not think that once you take Fentanyl (25) and it doesn't work for you that morphine won't work for you again. We all have different systems and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. I tried it at the 25 dose of Fentanyl and though it worked somewhat I was severely allergic to the adhesive. It scared me too.

I don't know abt. the patch, it seems like it would prolong the withdrawl. Possibly delay the inevitable but give some relief. Are you withdrawling voluntarily or till your next prescription ? Usually by day 5 a person starts to feel better and alot of the really bad stuff is over. I really do think the fentanly is a bad idea but I know how being addicted goes, we just want it to go away. this hole opiate scene just scares me and i understand there is a difference between being physically dependent and being a addict i just dont want to fall down the path of being a addict and abusing medication. My current med list is Cymbalta 90mg a day lyrica 225mg 2x a day Ms-Contin 30mg 3x a day MSIR (instant release morphine) 15mg as need for BT Mobic 15mg once a day Zanaflex (tizanidine) 4mg 3x a Day Adderall XR 30mg Once a day BusPar 7.

I have never heard of a morphine patch. I have only heard of Fentanyl, or duragesic patches. I am sure they are similar though. They could have euphoria, itching, nausea, dilated pupils, sweating, overall sense of well being, constipation, etc. What have you noticed?

My mother who has cronic back and shoulder pain is being taken off of fentanyl 100mcg patch and 7.5/500mg and being put on morphine 60mg 2x daily and then morphine sulfate 15mg every 4 hours for breakthough pain. What I'm wondering is there going to be withdrawl or is the morphine going to have enough of the same stuff in it. If not what kind of withdrawl systems will there be to watch for.

Is this morphine or Fentanyl? Are you sure it's point 75 (.75) or is it 75? What is the admin. route?

would they switch you over to fentanyl and then taper the fentanyl and then move you to an oral med???

Have stopped for 3 days(missed a patch) and I really see no difference so maybe its time to jump ship early enough with that med

I would try and work your way off the medication and stopping all at once will be dreadful and painful.

neither morphine nor fentanyl are drugs sold on the street as a rule//cept morphine on the street and taken IV is virtually heroin...fentanyl 25mcg would kick the normal populations rear end without a paddle///in fact it would probably put most here on a high or to sleep for a bit as it is stronger than most narcotics in general///never heard it used to decrease tolerence..

Since insurance has narrowed the long acting drugs they will cover down to very little, I take long acting morphine and hydrocodone for breakthru. When I start seeing signs of tolerance, we switch to xtampza and Oxycodone for several months then right back to my usual. Works great. If I had to guess I would say 15mg long acting morphine was not enough for you. 30mg would be worth a try. I know lots of people do well on the fentanyl patch. For me it didn’t feel consistent.

I had an appointment with my surgeon today, and I was right. Both screws are migrating out of position and one of them is right underneath the skin. This is what's been causing my increased pain all along. The pain clinic has been able to get the RSD pain under fairly good control with some blocks, the Fentanyl and oxycodone for BT pain. Unfortunately it's not doing anything for this pain.

Hello All I was wondering if anybody else out there has had any experiences of using fentanyl patches (especially uk durogesic and matrifen users that were previously on tilofyl or other brand gel based patches) that have had problems with withdrawal symptoms either from faulty patches, changeing to a different patch brand or changing over from oral morphine or other strong oral opioids like oxycodone, methadone, or dipipanone ? Which brand or type works best for you ?
