difference between femara and clomid

I am going to the RE on the 14th to see about getting on some meds that might help me out to get pg while I'm saving up for another IUI. What's the difference between Femara and Clomid? Do they do the same thing? I took Clomid for 3 months a while back but I don't think I BD at the right time for it to even work. I didn't like it all that much either. Do you think I should ask the RE about Femara instead and does it cost about the same?

ll just need the medicine to help you ovulate and release the egg. I do have a question for you though. What is difference between Femara and Clomid? After having my progesterone checked on cycle day 21 she mentioned to me that I may need that because the levels were low. I wondered if Femara was a different drug that gave similar results. Clomid can cause moodiness, hot flashes, thin lining and dry up your CM. Femara works on a different hormone then Clomid and is not suppose to have any of those side effects. I did 4 cycles of Clomid on the lowest dosage and 1 of Femara on the lowest dosage. The Clomid did dry up what little CM I did have and made me a little moody. I didn't notice any of that with the Femara.

I used Clomid for one cycle and it worked. Did you ovulate on Femara? Some women with PCOS have better luck with Femara than they had with Clomid.

Doc said it would help with the lining of my uterus. We tried 3 cycles of clomid and IUIs. No success. Clomid gave me hot flashes and may have made my cervical mucus hostile. This cycle, I took femara and had IUIs (in 2ww). I didn't have hot flashes, but my progesterone level went down slightly when tested on CD 19, compared to when I was on clomid. On clomid my progesterone was about 18 for 3 cycles, on femara my progesterone was 15.

Also, I have read that Clomid can lead to endo coming back quicker. Is this true and is it also true of Femara? I am very worried that then endo will come back, and I would really like the Femara to work well!! Thank You!

Why do REs start with Clomid and not Femara? We all know that Clomid causes CM dryness and cysts.. then y do REs not start with Femara from the first time itself??? This Q has been bothering me since long.. Anyone knows???

5mg) cycle and only my 2nd medicated cycle. Last cycle I did 50mg of Clomid and had abnormal bleeding so had to move to Femara and I am happy to say I responded to Femara with no side effects! I plan on testing on 10 dpo (Feb 1st)! So anyone else waiting to test please comment below! Its going to be a long two weeks but we can do it!!!!

I am with docsaf-I never had 1 symptom on clomid, and it did work for me. I know it is so hard to do, but try and just trust your RE and know he is doing what is best for you. I know-easier said than done! Good luck to you!

Hi there-I was on clomid 2 months with IUI and trigger-only had 2 follicles both times. I was on Femara this month, trigger and IUI and I had 6 follicles. I also took it on 4-8. So, for me, femara worked much better. I didn't do Menopur. I am in my 2ww and will find out on Tuesday. I wish you all the best!

I was supposed to have an IUI on Tuesday. I had an E2 test yesterday counted 61.94 though I developed 5 eggs ,he said it's low and must have another tomorrow and see if it increases or else he would cancel the IUI . So does Femara causes a drop in the E2 level? Is this normal?it's my very first time to use Femara!

My husband and I were on Clomid and Ovidrel for the past 4 months with no luck. I recently went in for a diagnostic test to see if my tubes are blocked. Everything looks great so I am relieved...sort of. I feel like if I had a reason why I am not getting pregnant, this would be easier. My husband and I had 2 miscarriages in the last 2 years so we are worried that when it does happen again, we will find ourselves in teh same situation.

ve also read that it can build-up in the body so the impact on the lining and cm could theoretically get worse with each month. My RE put me on clomid last month and then switched to Femara this month. The Femara seems to have been more effective and my RE actually said my lining "plumped-up" between yesterday and today. You may want to see if your RE will let you try Femara next month-- but maybe you won't need it... maybe you'll be surprised with a BFP in 10 days!

I get irregular AFs too. My AFs don't come but once a year if I'm lucky. I have been on Provera every other month and did about 4 rounds of Clomid with serious side effects and failed to work. Took a break from fertility drugs. Started Provera up again the last week of July and did Femara from cd3-7 and got a positive OPK on cd 8 and 9, and O'ed on cd 10. First time I O'ed in a long time. Every women is different. Do you also check your cervix?

Has anyone used Femara or Clomid and a "boost" of injectables and gotten a BFP? I will be doing 5mg of Femara CD 4 - 8 and then 150IU's of Menopur CD 9 - 11. We'll go in on CD 12 to check the follies and then hopefully proceed with IUI. I am hoping for more than 1 follicle. With Clomid and Femara I usually only have one follicle. It is usually nice and big though. Any thoughts would be helpful - any! Thanks..

) I was diagnosed with PCOS last January and started metformin and provera (to start my period). I just took clomid a couple weeks ago on days 3-7. My doctor said i had like 20 follicles but none were mature. Does anyone know a reason why they didn't mature? So now she took me off of metformin and I just started avandia. And wheneveer I start my next period she's gonna put me on Femara and an hcg shot. Has anyone had any success with any of these meds??!!

Anyway, I liked Femara much better than Clomid. Clomid gave me terrible mood swings and hot flashes. The only thing I noticed with the Femara was that I had mid-cycle headches and I read somewhere that is one symptom that is typically stronger with Femara vs Clomid. Like bny said, Femara doesn't thin your lining and it also doesn't have the risk of OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation) like Clomid does.

thanks so much for your answers. I'm new to femara. With my previous fertility doctor, he liked clomid better. With Clomd my estrogen level was always well in to the 1000's by day 12 or 13 but I'm on day 13 now (used femara on day 5-9) and my estrogen is only at 600. And I don't have any signs of having my LH surge yet where as I always surged on day 14 naturally on clomid. So I'm finding femara is working different for me. No idea if it's better or worse.

I have tried both Clomid and Femara, I would take Femara over Clomid ANY day!!! Clomid gave me a MONSTER headache for almost 4 weeks, YES 4 weeks!! Femara, LOVED IT!!! Had no side effects and its better on the uterine lining (doesn't thin it out like Clomid), and doesn't create hostile CM like Clomid! Good Luck!

Tried naturally until this month (clomid made my crazy) when we did the femara 2.5 mg 5-9 and thhe ovidrel trigger. Next month if this doesn't work (crossing my fingers) we are gonna try the femara with IUI. Any advice or tips?

I have taken both Clomid and Femara. Both caused me to O later than I typically did on my own, usually around cd15 or so. Like you, I had multiple follies with Clomid, but with the Femara I only had one. I remember reading that this is totally normal - Clomid usually creates multiple ones, but with Femara (especially the lower doses), you usually just get one good quality egg. Like bny said, it will grow pretty much these next few days, so it looks like you are right on track.

Yea, I have heard a lot of people go from clomid to femara and it work for them, but not sure if they added anything else along with that... who knows! I haven't had my ultrasound this cycle yet (had a lap two weeks ago and waiting for AF to start to start all of this -femara, trigger, progesterone etc).

I don't understand your question .... if you mean the difference between Femara and Letrozole .... if you mean the difference between the two names there isn't any. Letrozole is the Generic Name for Femara. Regards ....

I had no side effects from femara, whereas with clomid the side effects were terrible (moody, hot flashes, sore boobs, etc) femara was wonderful compared to clomid! my first cycle on femara I did not ovulate, but on my second round of femara i used hcg injection and got pregnant that way. good luck!!
