Common Questions and Answers about Difference between ambien cr and lunesta

ambien

1102799 tn?1269237714 Fairly soon my Ob-gyn switched me to Ambien CR 12 mg and this worked quite well (1/2 at night and 1/2 in the middle of the night) - I definitively prefer Ambien CR to regular Ambien. PS: be careful if you try to switch to Lunesta, a friend of mine did that and he started to sleepwalk!!
Avatar f tn I started taking Ambien & Prozac in Oct 2009. I started building a resistance so my doctor prescribed for me Restoril, that didn't work so she started me on Lunesta. After I started building a resistance to the Lunesta my doctor prescribed for me Ambien CR 12.5mg. It's now March 2010 and I need 4 or more Ambien CR to sleep. I can't sleep without it!!! I haven't taken the CR 12.5mg in 24hr and I have the common addiction symptoms.
Avatar m tn this is just my experience, and I'm not on tx yet...I can't take Lunesta and ambien, ambien makes me feel nutzo the next morning, but many people are fine with it...I take ativan if I have had a lot of sleepless nights in a row, and at a very low dose...I find tranquilizers lull me into sleep, which I prefer...best of luck...
Avatar n tn Ambien will help you get some sleep so yes I would say it is good. I worked for a Dr. before and the highest dose I saw given was a total of 12mg. So if the tab was 6mg then the patient could take 2. Taking 2 10mg of ambien seems a little high to me.Maybe someone else could answer better than me. I am one of those people that ambien doesn't work. I have tried Ambien cr, Lunesta (sp?) and regular Ambien and still couldn't get any sleep.
Avatar n tn Which sleep aid is less addicting and less toxic, ambien or lunesta. I have heard ambien is hard on your liver.
Avatar n tn I have tried Lunesta and it worked for a year and I am now on Xanax which I seem to have to take more and more of to sleep. What can I do?
Avatar f tn It's 3 weeks since I've been having a pretty serious depression, including anxiety & sleeplessness. I was put on a new antidepressant LexiPro (15 days now), xanax as needed, which I only need to "take the edge off" when Im shaky, and Lunesta to sleep. This is the 2nd time I've used Lunesta.
202665 tn?1248806733 I've had the same problem... there's a certain window of opportunity for the Ambien to take effect... and if you don't snatch it, then you can feel wired, but tired at the same time. you might want to have your doc prescribe the Ambien CR instead, it's a controlled release and I find that it works pretty well... Also, may want to try Lunesta, if the Ambien is no longer working for you... but those drugs are supposed to be for temporary use only...
Avatar m tn I'm no doctor, so I definitely can't give you any medical information on Ambien, but I can relay my personal experience with it. I've been on Ambien (currently 10mg) for SEVERAL years now (5 or more). I have many chronic pain conditions, including fibroymalgia. One of the major symptoms of fibro is insomnia - which I definitely suffer from!
Avatar n tn I have a terrible sleep disorder and have tried numerous products to sleep @ night ie: Lunesta, Ambien, Ambien CR, Remeron, etc. The best thing I have found, and it's non addictive/no side effects , to take a benedryl 1/2 hr before I go to bed. Make sure to get at least 6-8 hours of sleep.
Avatar n tn I used diphenhydramine (Benedryl) to sleep while on TX, starting with 50 mg and working up to 200 mg by 6 months of TX. Lunesta and Ambien are also excellent, but have more side effects and slight withdrawal issues.
1201433 tn?1328997637 Hi, I was on Lunesta for the entire tx and it worked great. Ambien comes in two forms one is extended ambien, do you know which one you are on? You should talk to your Dr about which one you are on.I took regular ambien long before tx and it didn't work too well for me either. Best of luck....
Avatar f tn Insurance auths can usually be done in one day and for 30 pills. My ins also requires pre-auth for ambien cr which I take. My Dr's office puts in the request for the meds ( they can put a request for any amount of the drugs they want to) the number of pills and send it in. Sometimes the ins comp.
Avatar f tn It is not known to be physically addictive tho Large doses of tramadol or benzos can cause seizures if stopped abruptly and best to do under a drs care. Ambien and lunesta are not known to have a seizure risk if stopped...but if ur dose was huge, the possibilty would be there as with many drugs the brain becomes accustomed to. We are all different tho and some are more prone to seizures than others/but not common with cessation of ambien. You state you took 1-2, sometimes 3....
Avatar m tn Ive been taking Ambien CR and still have problems falling asleep. I usually go to bed around 10-11 with it and wake up around 3 then go back to sleep until 430-500. I need more than that so I was thinking about taking the temazpam with the Ambien CR right before bed. I will see how it effects me before getting into bed first. Should be interesting and hoping I dont feel "hung over" in the morning.
Avatar f tn i would think the lack of memeory is from the ambien...i have taken it a few times and it makes me foggy the nest day. i do think 15mgs is alot. dont try to quit it c/t...you need to taper down. and i think that it is very possible after a year that you are suffering w/d symptoms...taper sown and see if it helps.
Avatar m tn Thank you both for your replies. My physician started me on Melatonin (3MG) a few days ago. Tried it and was getting tired but still wasn't able to fall asleep. Tried 6MG last night - still unable to fall asleep. Ended up taking Ambien both nights. It seems like the melatonin is helping me stay asleep - got 6 hours of sleep each of the past two nights. Any suggestions as to how much melatonin to take? Should it help me fall asleep?
Avatar n tn I dont know why it is making me nausea. My doc then perscribed lunesta 3mg. Has anyone tried lunesta and experienced better sleep with it? I am afraid of trying lunesta because i dont want to feel so nausea again. I didn't take any sleep med last night...didnt have a very good sleep but still i feel nausea. I need something to help me sleep without causing nausea and to help me sleep like a baby throughout the night pleaseee.
1355301 tn?1287967641 I actually found that when I tried Lunesta (or had to switch to it from my normal Ambien because I was in the hospital and they only use Lunesta there) - that I had the same thing happen to me. As soon as I was able to go back to my normal Ambien, it stopped. I wonder if it's a side effect of the Lunesta... but maybe not since you said taking the Lunesta actually helped the situation for you.
Avatar m tn I'm seeing a doctor for a 10 year sleep problem. He swears by magnesium....loading me up on it to the eyeballs. So far, I haven't taken enough to get there, but it IS getting better, at least on most nights, I think. I do think the l-theanine amino acid is also a terrific natural sleep aid. I've heard about it all over the place and have seen many posts about it over the past year or so. As far as the ambien, ambien CR, lunesta, sonata, etc., don't even try them.
Avatar m tn i am currently on short term leave from work due to GAD and forms of panic disorder. My main problem was insomnia sleep maintenance. Tried Ambien, Ambien CR and Seroquel. to no avail. saw a sleep specialist and he put me on both seroquel to be taken with Lunesta. it all went downhill from there. to make a long story short, this is when i started having panic attacks.
Avatar f tn t said if he is taking Ambien or Ambien CR. The Ambien CR helped me MUCH more than the regular Ambien. Of course I never slept the whole night through but a few hours then I'd wake up about 2 but I was able to go back to sleep usually even if it was several times a night. Good luck, I've never been much of a good sleeper but if it gets that bad I would seek out a sleep clinic doctor place - he could have sleep apnea or something that is compounding the situation.
783281 tn?1259691431 Look at all the posts of the shear terror, blackouts and horror Ambien and Ambien CR facilitate. I would bet that your EXTREMELY rare comment gave many struggling addicts an excuse to take more drugs. Look what happens to your sleep pattern after you take those for a couple weeks. Please, re-consider your advice, you may have directed someone down a road other than abstinece. Recovery is not about managing drugs, it is about managing your life without drugs.
968560 tn?1307451498 Post-TX, the riba sticks around and screws up your sleep for a little while. I had to use AMbien and Lunesta. I alternated them and was on them for a few months. They say no dependence but that's not exactly true. I have switched to benedryl for the last 3 wks. to help with stopping the sleep meds and will see if I can sleep without the benedryl this weekend.
Avatar n tn I am having to take sleeping pills to sleep. I tried Ambien, Ambien CR, Lunesta, and amitriptyline. Each medicine would only let me sleep for four hours a night. So I am taking the Lunesta right now. But it is very hard functioning during the day as I am very fatigued. My body previously was use to getting 8 hours of sleep a day. Do you know of any other medicines that would help with longer sleep? How long does it usually take for the sleep to return on its own?
Avatar n tn Yes, I have tried ambien, and ambien CR, and had to discontinue/stop it due to having long laps of forgetfulness. Not good! I tried Lunesta, and it is ok, however, my insurance won't pay for it, and I can't afford it. SO the doc thought this Klonopin would do the trick, but I didn't expect tears. Maybe it is relaxing me enough to release tears for all the high stress I am going thru!!! didn't think of that until reading all of the above.
Avatar n tn But hes also not an addict of any sort. Ambien CR is scary. When it starts to work I felt like I was paralized. I was awake but could not move my body. I wouldnt have been able to get up if I was on fire. Good luck to you. This is just my 2 cents!!!
