Avatar f tn I have Hoshimoto. For thyroiditis avoid large quantities of soy products. This means no soy burgers and soy milk and other stuff. It is proven to mess up inflamed thyroids. Veggies like broccoli are also not good, I forget what in it thats bad.
Avatar n tn Why are you posting and not your father? Can you explain "precautions"? Do you mean prevent his diabetes from progressing? If yes we need to know what he is doing to control and manage his diabetes - foods he eats, exercise program, blood sugar levels and when he tests? "the good diet plan for them...." Changing lifestyle habits can go a long way in controlling type 2 diabetes. India leads the world in diabetes. This is mainly due to poor diet/nutrition.
Avatar f tn Go to the American Diabetes Association web site to educate yourself on diabetes. There is wealth of information to educate yourself about this disease. Lastly, didn't your doctor provide you with a home glucose test meter? You will need to test b4 each meal and 2-3 hours after each meal. This will tell you how the foods you consumed affected your glucose levels.
Tbd For all types of diabetes the most critical aspect to avoid complications is keeping blood sugars as close to normal as possible, and reducing insulin resistance so that insulin levels in the body can also be normalised. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Hello! I too had gestational diabetes with my first and was able to control it with diet and exercise until around 36 weeks. I found that pairing any protein with what starch I did eat tended to keep my levels down. More significantly, not staying still after a meal. If I went for a brief walk or did the dishes and cleaned up, my levels always stayed under or close to my limits. I saw a dietician and nutritionist once I was diagnosed as well who was very helpful.
Avatar f tn You also have to make a conscious effort towards making lifestyle changes. Making lifestyles changes to ones diet is not awful nor difficult. Instead of trying to figure out what not to eat focus on what you should eat. Avoid white foods [foods made with white flour [breads, crackers], white rice, potatoes, pasta] as these quickly turn into sugar after digestion. Eat quality proteins like fish and fowl, nuts and seeds, beans and legumes, fresh vegetables and small amounts of whole grains.
5898681 tn?1392221010 Aspratame is in any soda even sparkling water. However I was told by my mother in law not to drink soda in general but especially not diet. The reasoning I'm not completely sure of. Probably artificial sweeteners.

Avatar f tn Have been checking my blood sugar and its never gone above 135 so, Just keep track of it.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your comment. I should have provided more info but wanted to keep it brief. My weight is good and I do exercise - walking is what I love. There is a history of Type 11 on both sides of my family and I did have gestational diabetes back 40 years ago. And no obesity in family either. About 30 years ago, my mother insisted I be checked for diabetes, given the history.
Avatar m tn You can take 800 mg of vitamin E as alpha-tocopherol and 2,500 mg of aged garlic extract to help protect against LDL oxidation. Avocado oil "Good" monounsaturated fat makes up about 72% of its calories, the same as olive oil. “The monounsaturated fat in avocado oil helps protect your heart by reducing LDL cholesterol levels and improving your blood pressure numbers,” says Washington, DC, dietitian Rebecca Scritchfield, RD.
Avatar m tn Try to make an appointment with a diabetic nutritionist to educate you about foods you should eat and what foods to avoid. Ask your doctor for a referral. "need other tips so that my a-1c gets better. any ideas?" Diabetes control is simple and requires a lifestyle change. Proper nutrition, physical exercise 5 times a week and maintaining proper body weight all play a key role, especially the physical exercise. Hope this gave you some ideas.
Avatar m tn Since we are a thyroid community, I would normally tell you to check out the pre-diabetes forum, which I will do anyway, but I might also be able to offer to some insight, since I too, have pre-diabetes. The easiest way to address pre-diabetes (insulin resistance) is eat low glycemic foods, that won't raise your blood sugar, such as vegetables, lean meats, low fat dairy, etc. Avoid things like white bread, sugary drinks and other high calorie foods (candies, pastries, etc).

Avatar f tn Hello, you may also want to test before eating to see if your blood sugars go down eventually. Are you overweight? if so, losing weight may help, as will daily exercise. Try reducing carbs (you eat less carbs, but more protein and unprocessed fats). You can experimeint to see if this is enough to get your sugarss down. learn to 'eat to your meter'. ie. find what foods don't make you high and then make these a main part of your diet.
Avatar f tn You can have fresh fruit. Just avoid the tropical ones. You'll have to check your blood sugar 4 times a day. Once on the morning before eating or drinking, and an hour after each meal every doctor is different as to how many carbs per meal and snacks. Since I have GD and it's diet controlled I have to go once a week for a non stress test. They put a monitor on my belly and check to see if baby is moving and the heart rate is good. Healthy fats help block sugar absorption also.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed met with a nutritionist so I can control it through diet. If you aren't on meds then you have to watch the carbs you eat per meal. My diet plan consists of 30 g of carbs per meal. Special k exceeds that in 1 serving. You should try to avoid breads, pastas, and watch your carb intake. Veggies and protein is alright and no limit on it. Try googling a diet to follow online and good luck.
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor to refer you to a diabetic dietician to help you understand about diet. The types of foods to avoid are those that are highly processed and have high quantities of sugar. Be aware that low fat foods do not necessarily mean low sugar. It is still very important to have a healthy and well balanced diet and to choose the types of foods that slowly release energy in your body. For example, sugar foods will spike your blood sugars very quickly and then drop very quickly.
Avatar f tn A partial answer, since I don't know all of what you have to avoid, would be that a diet based on the whole foods concept should help some. The whole foods concept is based on the idea of eating foods as close to how you get them from nature as possible without processing them. Going gluten free has helped several of my conditions, including pre-diabetes. I went gluten free for other health reasons and had many benefits.
Avatar f tn My eye doctor today told me that my vision problems are due to diabetes. I told him that I have never been diagnosed with diabetes by a medical doctor. I had fasting labs done a few months ago because of hypothyroid. My blood glucose at that time was 102mg/dl. Is that high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes? I already have another appointment for fasting labs next month. I thought I would get a jump start on changing my eating habits but I can't figure out what I can eat.
Avatar f tn Please consider a low carb diet. This is the best approach to manage wieght and also control diabetes. It could also help you avoid lap band. Please look up the book "diabetes solutions" by Dr. Richard Bernstein. If you can take his advice on board (he is a type 1 diabetic and nearly 80 years old), it could be of great help to you.
Avatar f tn I do with this pregnancy. Mine is diet controlled. Most likely it will go away after delivery.
Avatar f tn However, do be careful about how much carbs they recommend you to eat. The traditional approach is to ask diabetic patients to eat a high carb diet, but truely this can make it much harder to control your blood sugars. A diet focusing on lower carb foods (with plenty of veges and minimally processed foods) is really the way to go.
Avatar n tn Along with avoiding sugary foods a low to no carb diet plan is recommended for t2 diabetics. Carbs to t2 diabetics are the same as sugar - elevates our glucose [blood sugar] above and beyond acceptable levels. A very good place to look for low carb recipes is the Atkins [diet] web site http://tinyurl.com/atkins-recipes . Replace sugar with artificial sweeteners such as Splenda or Stevia.
Avatar m tn //www.webmd.com/diabetes/keto-diet-for-diabetes They are starting to accumulate some science and studies to support your notion. Let me ask you this. I'm not great about diets. Did you start slow or did you go all in at once?
