Avatar n tn Hello Wicked, Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am sorry to hear that you have Gouty Arthritis (Gout). It is a painful condition. Gout can spread to all the joints of your foot, including your ankle. It can also effect other joints in your body including your knee, elbow and wrist. Years ago Gout used to be called the Rich Man's Disease. Why?... Because it is caused by the deposits of uric acids (actually crystals) in your joints.
Avatar n tn This was my case as well. Just follow the gout diet, I believe your doctor told you what to eat and what to avoid. I was taking a natural treatment for my gout and it helped me put it under control. Fell great now!

2062453 tn?1350332942 Hi Bali: Thanks for your response. My diet was a disaster while I was on treatment. I basically ate whatever I could stomach given the nausea. The nausea is starting to pass so I'll focus on improving my diet to help address the gout. I'm also hoping I can soon stomach water again (after 6 months of primarily flavored juice). I read that drinking lots of water helps relieve gout, and I used to drink lots of water, so hopefully I can again soon!

543791 tn?1216381777 t have gout but I know that it is possible to have a condition without an exact match for the usual symptoms. How long has your toe been hurting? Have you tried the gout diet - low purine foods? Does anything you do make it better or have you noticed something that causes it to get worse?
Avatar m tn Especially it has been observed that after Alcohol intake, high protein diet intake, the gout aggravates and may present as pain over knees/toes. So please keep a check on all these things. Also request you to have a check on the Sr Uric Acid , in your blood.Maybe once in 3 weeks you can have an analysis of it, to get the details. Also there is an irony of Gout. Sometimes the Sr Uric Acid levels are normal, but still Gout may happen. So it's highly unpredictable ailment.
Avatar n tn You can google low purine diet or gout diet and will find many resources. The gist is to limit intake of meat, seafood and fats. An interesting site I found was goutpal.com. It mentioned cherries and cherry juice. The case it referenced had the patient eating 6 cherries per day. With that info, it sounds like drinking the juice every day may be of benefit to her. Please let us know if it helps and any tips you learn as you go along.
Avatar n tn I had horrible bouts of gout beginning at about age 38. I tried it all - meds, diet change and herbal remedies. Nothing worked. My solution was WATER! I drink about a gallon a day, and have not had a bout in 2 years. I know it sounds simple, but basically, gout occurs because your kidneys do not do their job. They cannot do their job if you are dehydrated. It may not work for everyone, but even if it does not help with gout, you will get many other benefits due to hydration.
Avatar m tn I have been treated for flare ups of Gout (or what my family doctor thought was gout) for approx 4 years now. I was told that as long as the flare ups did not occur often I should just watch my diet and take some mild anti-inflammatory medication whenever I felt a flare up coming on. This past year my flare ups have been more frequent and have been lasting longer as well as affecting both my feet instead of just the one.
Avatar f tn After researching gout on the web - I believe this is accurate. It sounds like diet plays an important role. Good luck on your end.
Avatar n tn Some people have found cherry juice or strawberries helpful. Some chemicals contained in dark berries may help reduce the inflammation and lower the uric acid. Oily fish like salmon, or fatty acids in flax seed or olive oil or nuts may reduce inflammation too. It has been suggested that using tofu (from soybeans) instead of meat could also be helpful.
