Avatar f tn These are patients whos disease effects not just 1 single artery but rather all arteries in their heart. For these patients they run into a problem.. Every stent we place into the body significantly and exponentially increases the probability of a phenomenon called in stent restenosis, a heart attack caused by stent placement. At some point it actually becomes more risky to place additional stents then to perform a surgery. 2.

640719 tn?1277140030 Hi everyone, sorry.. I haven't posted in a while I've been sick hospitalized with pneumonia/asthma but I do try to keep up with the thyroid forum because it is such a blessing to have so many of you who take the time who give your comfort and advise to those in need. I just want to say this really is a great resource for many! I went to my Endo yesterday and had my biggest drop 7-9 months out after Partial TT which really surprised me.
Avatar n tn Some also advocate doing a TEE to see if there is clot in the left atrium and if so postpone the operation until it resolves. This is something one might recommend in someone with high risk for clot such as heart failure, DM, previous embolic stroke, etc. It is generally quite safe to come off coumadin prior to these types of surgeries and this is typically what is done here at the cleveland clinic. Again, high risk patients could consider bridging with heparin.
Avatar n tn She might have pain at the surgery site for which pain killers can be taken.Generally a semi-solid diet is presribed from the 2nd or 3rd day during the first week. If the semi-solid diet is tolerated well, then other foods can be slowly introduced. This usually takes 2-3 weeks.Complete recovery takes 2-3 weeks. If open surgery had been performed, the recovery time is longer- 6-8 weeks. If there are any complications, the recovery time may be prolonged than usual.
Avatar m tn Stick to the diet - they tell you to diet for 10 weeks, I dieted for over 12 weeks and waited even longer before trying the foods not on the list. (asparagus, celery, yams and meat). I got sick of Tilapia and fish, but it was worth it. Do not try salad until it says you can - I waited the full 12 weeks before trying salad as it is so rough on the stomach. One lady said she had a salad after 6 weeks and thought she was dying! Just be careful and stick to the diet.

Avatar f tn Then I have read a message from a Mayo Clinic surgeon who states the biggest problem he sees is that his patients have waited too long. Waiting too long can enlarge the heart chamber and decrease the heart's pumping ability, and an operation under those circumstances may not restore the heart's ability to again pump with normal contractility.

Avatar f tn It is not uncommon for people to have a decline in left ventricular function after operation for advanced severe mitral regurgitation. Your husband should talk with his cardiologist about his medications regimen to make certain that he is taking the right drug cocktail (ACE-inhibitor, beta blocker, etc.) and avoiding drugs that could worsen heart function (diltiazem is not recommended in patients with decreased left ventricular function).

1926971 tn?1682474897 I was admitted to hospital on 3rd Oct 2011 after a doppler where angiogram showed in the diagram 99% RA Blockage and 70 % LA Blockage and was prepared for Operation when a huge cyst was removed from left hip. Operation of 4 graft bypass postponed for 6 weeks when I was readmitted on Nov 26 2011 and discharged after 5 hours when I told them that my blood group is B(NEGATIVE). Took opinion of three top cardiologists who told me OMT would work and bypass was not required.
