Common Questions and Answers about Diet food for diabetic person

diabetes

Avatar f tn Is there any specific diet for diabetic patients? There are many articles online but confusing for which to follow. Some say fruits are bad, others say they are healthy, for example, bananas. Are there certain vitamins or supplements to take or any natural change of eating habits? It may vary from person to person but generally what should one eat to control levels of blood sugar.
Avatar n tn They are really informative, and can teach you how to get the proper nutrition for a person with kidney disease. I learned a lot from mine. I got one from Amazon.com. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas. However, if insulin resistance is the main problem for a type 2 diabetic, then lowering the carb count may not really be the solution, and medications to help the insulin-resistance problem still may be needed.
720228 tn?1530911279 I want to follow a healthy diet for him. Is a diabetic diet healthy for everyone else in my family? We have 7 kids between us and I wanted to make sure they are eating healthy as well. Is there anything I should know when changing to a diabetic diet? Anything that the kids should not eat or should eat that is not part of that diet?
1720613 tn?1309432604 Proper nutrition means to accentuate the positive when it comes to food. I dislike the word diet. “Diet” implies a rigorous, self-sacrificial discipline that’s doomed to fail. Instead, focus on achieving food goals of what you should eat each day rather than what you shouldn’t eat.
Avatar n tn Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.

Avatar m tn my question is a type 2 diabetic person can feel weakness and lazy to do activities. thank you.
733939 tn?1231773355 You are on the right track so take a deep breath and hang in there! I disagree with the person who said you are a "half step from being put on insulin". I'm sorry, but it doesn't work that way! For a Type II diabetic the correct step for you and your doctor to take is to start you on some oral medications and help you to learn the right way to eat. I agree with the person who said not to think of it as a diet but as good nutrition. Please don't be afraid to eat!
Avatar f tn t change the genes, meaning that if a person has a genetic predisposition to be likely to become a type 2 diabetic, it will always be important for that person to watch his or her weight, exercise, and eat healthily. The genes won't be gotten rid of by doing this, so they do continue to be passed on in families. But that doesn't mean that all of the offspring will become diabetic. Type 2 really does largely depend on what the person does in the way of diet and exercise.
5501743 tn?1390296087 I went on the diabetic diet :) or gluten free!!!
Avatar f tn Fish is good for you tho but make sure you look up the type of fish that have mercury. I eat tilapia every once n a while.
Avatar n tn Believe me - as a Type 1 I had the same questions about a Diabetic Diet and for the most part - Food Exchanges just confused me because they overly complicated something simple. Type 1 or Type 2 or Type 1.5 - we all have the same meal planning problem. Unfortunately - there is no "list" of safe foods. You have to make your own. BUT - it's not so hard. The trick is to look at Nutritional Labels on food products. 99% of everything has it.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your comment. I should have provided more info but wanted to keep it brief. My weight is good and I do exercise - walking is what I love. There is a history of Type 11 on both sides of my family and I did have gestational diabetes back 40 years ago. And no obesity in family either. About 30 years ago, my mother insisted I be checked for diabetes, given the history.
Avatar f tn Hi, thanks for the answer. I already had the thyroid test and I don't have any problem with that, is just the hiperinsulinim and the PCOs, and also I've already been treated with medication but my doctor said that I don't needed anymore.
Tbd I am glad to learn that diet and exercise can change your risk to low for becoming a diabetic.
Avatar n tn I am a volunteer and a mom of a type 1 diabetic. When it comes to my daughters diet, she eats normal food, the only things that we keep in our house that is sugar free is sodas and crystal light. Our doctor believes we should treat her as a child first and a diabetic second.
Avatar n tn Well, I might as well get my 2¢ in here, too... Optimizing thyroid hormone levels, which should be your first and foremost priority, since no diet is going to help you lose weight until your metabolism is normalized. Once that's done, you should opt for a low glycemic diet, which is a diet that centers on foods that increase blood sugars the least. Those foods would include high quality proteins, vegetables, whole grains, etc. Do some research and find a list of low glycemic foods.
Avatar f tn I have just recently figured out my ideal diet and my bg is staying under 100. I found out it is different for each person. You have to learn by trial and error, unfortunately. A good book to read is Diabetes for Dummies. And a must-have is the Official Pocket Guide to Diabetic Exchanges. Good luck and we're all here for support!
Avatar m tn What is wrong is you have diabetes. Diabetes is the bodies in-ability to process carbohydrates properly resulting in high blood sugar (BG). ALL carbohydrates not just sugar. Your body turns all carbohydrates into BG . I dont know what your "diet" is that you follow. BUT it has more carbohydrates than your body can process. Even the ADA's diet has too many carbs for you OR/AND you need drugs to help your body to process the carbs.
Avatar n tn The best diet for a diabetic is quite similar to one for a non-diabetic. A well balanced diet will keep anyone healthy. The best foods for him are the same foods that are good for you. However, lower carb foods can help prevent highs. What a diabetic needs to understand about food is that to accurately count the carbohydrates in the food is essential. If you need help figuring out carbs, Calorie King has an excellent book which lists carbs for most foods and restaurants. http://www.
Avatar f tn I have been diabetic for 15 years. I have never been on a diabetic diet. I would like to know what I can eat, like how many carbs, fat, fruit, etc. Please help.
Avatar n tn Hi ozarkskye, my advice is based on my own experience, as I'm not a physician but have been a diabetic for 11 years. There are many diet plans for diabetics, but the ones that work best are usually custom-made for individuals, tailored to their specific needs by their nutritionist/dietitian. Was the diet plan your doctor gave you created with your input and have you discussed your concerns with him?
