diclofenac and misoprostol

Arthrotec is a tablet containing a combination of diclofenac and misoprostol. Diclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain. Misoprostol reduces stomach acid and replaces protective substances in the stomach that are reduced by NSAIDs. Arthrotec is used to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis in people at high risk for developing stomach or intestinal ulcers.

An ultrasound revealed there was no heart beat. My doctor gave me Misoprostol on Monday and I had some bleeding and light cramping, but only passed 2 penny sized blood clots. The second day everything stopped. I had to wait 72 hours before I could take another dose. So on Thursday I tried it again. Only this time I had a little heavier bleeding, not much more and the cramps were a little worse. But everything stopped that day and I don't think everything came out the way it was supposed to.

I tried Mobic and Nabumatone and had problems with upset stomach and headache. In addition to Fibromyalgia I also have arthritis in my spine and shoulder, so I take it for that and I can't live without it. Ibuprofen and Naproxen doesn't even touch the inflammation and pain.

Yes, I do use this medication, however my RA doc has me make it up into a cream and use it topically instead of swallowing them and risking stomach and intestinal damage. Diclofenac is a rather old, but good good antinflamatory NSAID medication that really can ruin your stomach which is why they don't prescribe it much anymore. I know it may sound strange but it works really well.

Question. I have started taking Diclofenac 75mg x's 2 a day to try and see if a non narcotic medication may give me some relief long term with my rib pain. I have taken it for 2 weeks and at first I didn't think it was helping at all. Now I think 1 of 2 things either A) it's starting to build up in my system and is helping better or B) My ribs just happen to feel a bit better lately.

i have taken diclofenac for over 20 years with no side effects i have had to come off the tablets 75mg x twice day 4 days ago as I am showing some drying of kidneys from another mediation to ensure it is that one i have come off anything whih might affect me.

I had a nightmare experience with misoprostol prior to an IUD insertion: severe pain and vomiting. The IUD insertion was practically painless though. It has been about 4 days since the insertion and I am still feeling very faint and uncomfortably nauseous. Is this a common side effect to a small dose of misoprostol?

I think I need the strong stuff like diclofenac and B12 and b6. There is a pills called OKA B that I use to take when having muscle pain and it took pains away. But I've heard that diclofenac is not good to take during tx. Has anyone taken diclofenac during tx or is it too bad for the liver.

You are correct. The usual interactions suggest a decrease in levels of the other drugs taken with carbamazepine. Try searching for 'carbamazepine metabolism' and 'diclofenac metabolism'. It shows that both meds are metabolized by CYP3A4. Diclofenac may decrease levels of CYPA4 (search 'diclofenac inactivation CYP3A4); this could potentially lead to increased levels of carbamazepine.

One cause is unusual conditions in the upper and middle GI tract such as that created by misoprostol and Arthrotec (misoprostol plus diclofenac), Amongst other things, misoprostol is a smooth muscle agent which both a contact and systemic mucousagogue which coats the stomach and adjacent areas with increasing amounts of mucus. This can result in everything from even slower onset of action to intact tablets being passed with stool.

There may be reasons why, for you, she is suspecting the Diclofenac and not the other. Give her a call and ask. Let us know what happens. There are many medications that are ototoxic to our ears causing hearing loss and tinnitus, some have permanent effects while others have side effects only while taking the medication. On your particular list, Asprin stands out the most. Asprin does cause hearing los & tinnitus as do most of the NSAIDS (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs).

s heart stopped almost 2wks ago and have not passed naturally. So dr gave me 600mg of misoprostol to take orally and nothing happened told me to take 600 more mg 12hrs later and still nothing waited 24hrs and dr said to try to take 600mg vaginally so i did and still nothing I woke up with some light bleeding then passed a very small clot and bleeding gone I know i have not passed everything inc. the fetus.

I took Cytotec once for a blighted ovum (embryo did not develop), I took only 2 pills and passed everything a few hours after - I was at 11 weeks. In my case it was very fast and not a whole lot of bleeding. I believe I saw a big clot - not sure, it has been several years. What does you OB-Gyn say?
