Avatar n tn 5 mg of hydrocodone which is the opioid (narcotic) component and 325 mg of acetaminophen (tylenol). Diclofenac is a strong NSAID (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). These two medications are in totally different classes...one is a opioid and the other is an NSAID. Strictly based on pharmacology, the hydrocodone/acetaminophen is stronger. However, these two medicines should really not be compared in that fashion as they each work better than the other for different types of ailments.
Avatar f tn Hi, I posted this question in the Cirrhosis forum, but I thought maybe I'd post it here too, since many members of the Hep C forum also have Cirrhosis. I have a question about an anti-inflammatory medication called Diclofenac for a person with Cirrhosis.
Avatar f tn However tylenol with codeine (tylenol 3) is as effective as the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agents like ibuprofen and diclofenac. The therapy may have to be personalised also. You could start with ibuprofen, and if not completely effective, you may try tylenol 3. Best..
Avatar f tn Acetaminophen is a medication used to control pain (known as an analgesic) and fever (known as antipyretic). When taken at recommended doses, acetaminophen, the medicine in TYLENOL®, is the preferred pain reliever for patients with chronic, stable liver disease. Do not use TYLENOL® with other acetaminophen-containing products. Always read and follow label directions. Taking more than the recommended dose (overdose) of acetaminophen may cause liver damage.
Avatar f tn The combination of the Rx NSAID and the acetaminophen finally began to overpower the fever and I felt I could tolerate the rest of the shift. The mystery comes in because I had no other symptoms besides the fever...no cold symptoms, no nausea/vomiting/diarrhea...NOTHING. Just an acute onset fever that was finally controlled with medication, but I have no reason for why I experienced it!! Has anyone else had strange, unexplained fevers?
Avatar m tn Why has so much been made of acetaminophen and the liver and I find nothing on the internet mentioning ibroprofen in that context. I ask this because my doctor prescribed me vicoprofen 7.5/200 for when aches and pains from treatment get to much. She seemed to think it is better than vicodin which has 500mg of acetaminophen. 200 mg of Ibroprofen does not seem to be much once in a while.
Avatar f tn each acetaminophen tablet or pill typically contains 500 milligrams of acetaminophen.) In fact, acetaminophen is the recommended medication for relieving minor aches, pains, and headaches in people with liver disease. However, when taken in excessive quantities or when combined with alcohol, acetaminophen may cause death due to liver failure.
Avatar f tn Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including aspirin, diclofenac, acetaminophen and ibuprofen, are associated with allergic adverse effects, ranging from mild rash to life-threatening allergic reactions. In such cases it becomes difficult to select appropriate pain killer. If drug allergy is suspected you need to discontinue the drug and report to your doctor immediately. Treatment includes anti histaminic and glucocorticoids against prescription.
553516 tn?1255867219 Patients who take these medications (regularly or daily) should undergo monthly laboratory testing for the first three months of therapy and then every three to six months because of the association between these medications and liver disease.
Avatar m tn Hi, There are other NSAIDS other than diclofenac that can be used in the treatment of gout. These include indomethacin and naproxen. Even paracetamol (acetaminophen) can provide pain relief in a gout attack. If your father has been prescribed a medication called dutasteride for treatment of the BPH, it is possible that the diclofenac was interacting with it and leading to his problems with urination.
Avatar m tn NSAIDs presently on the market that have been frequently associated with liver injury are aspirin (ASA), diclofenac (Voltaren), and sulindac (Clinoril). Ibuprofen (Motrin) has been reported to cause severe liver injury in people with hepatitis C. A new generation of NSAIDs, known as the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors, has recently been approved by the FDA.
653169 tn?1303446369 I tried Mobic and Nabumatone and had problems with upset stomach and headache. In addition to Fibromyalgia I also have arthritis in my spine and shoulder, so I take it for that and I can't live without it. Ibuprofen and Naproxen doesn't even touch the inflammation and pain.
Avatar f tn Yes, I do use this medication, however my RA doc has me make it up into a cream and use it topically instead of swallowing them and risking stomach and intestinal damage. Diclofenac is a rather old, but good good antinflamatory NSAID medication that really can ruin your stomach which is why they don't prescribe it much anymore. I know it may sound strange but it works really well.
Avatar f tn Question. I have started taking Diclofenac 75mg x's 2 a day to try and see if a non narcotic medication may give me some relief long term with my rib pain. I have taken it for 2 weeks and at first I didn't think it was helping at all. Now I think 1 of 2 things either A) it's starting to build up in my system and is helping better or B) My ribs just happen to feel a bit better lately.
Avatar n tn i have taken diclofenac for over 20 years with no side effects i have had to come off the tablets 75mg x twice day 4 days ago as I am showing some drying of kidneys from another mediation to ensure it is that one i have come off anything whih might affect me.
163305 tn?1333668571 NSAIDs presently on the market that have been frequently associated with liver injury are aspirin (ASA), diclofenac (Voltaren), and sulindac (Clinoril). Ibuprofen (Motrin) has been reported to cause severe liver injury in people with hepatitis C. It is recommended that people with advanced liver disease avoid using all NSAIDs.
453731 tn?1225199508 NSAIDs include celecoxib (Celebrex), diclofenac (Voltaren), ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), indomethacin, naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), piroxicam (Feldene), and others. These medicines may affect blood clotting and could cause serious bleeding in your stomach or intestines. Avoid sudden changes in your diet. Vitamin K decreases the effects of Coumadin.
907515 tn?1251727972 but every decade or thereabouts i get a severe crazy out of control flare up and right now i m going thru one of those... i m on prednisolone and diclofenac (only diclofenac works on me when it is severe, no other NSAID does)... but i hate the side effects of prednisolone!!! i just wonder if anyone out here also suffers from behcet's and has this kind of 'arthritis' that doesn't show up in RA tests?
Avatar m tn I think I need the strong stuff like diclofenac and B12 and b6. There is a pills called OKA B that I use to take when having muscle pain and it took pains away. But I've heard that diclofenac is not good to take during tx. Has anyone taken diclofenac during tx or is it too bad for the liver.
Avatar m tn i am still having the pain and soreness of penis. I have been back to clinic and been tested again for everything and came back all clear. I have tried many antibiotics. I have just finished a course of Diclofenac. Still no change. Could this be trichomonas??
1204528 tn?1588786333 You are correct. The usual interactions suggest a decrease in levels of the other drugs taken with carbamazepine. Try searching for 'carbamazepine metabolism' and 'diclofenac metabolism'. It shows that both meds are metabolized by CYP3A4. Diclofenac may decrease levels of CYPA4 (search 'diclofenac inactivation CYP3A4); this could potentially lead to increased levels of carbamazepine.
1840891 tn?1431547793 src=mpnews Topical NSAIDs May Be a Better Choice for Elderly With OA September 18, 2012 — Topical diclofenac is about as effective as oral diclofenac in knee and hand osteoarthritis (OA), is probably as effective as other oral NSAIDs, and might be a safer choice for elderly patients and others at risk for gastrointestinal adverse effects, according to an intervention review published online September 12 in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews.
2105146 tn?1334593783 Most people still don’t know about this risk and don’t realize that acetaminophen is in hundreds of OTC cold, allergy and headache products and some prescription pain relievers. Check labels for acetaminophen, and don’t take more than 4 grams—equal to eight Extra Strength Tylenol tab--lets—a day from all sources. Alcohol (three drinks or more at a time) and certain other drugs increase the risk. Heavy drinkers and those with liver disease should atleast limit, acetaminophen.
Avatar f tn I would also find a pain management office and get them to start the intake process and evaluation. You also should communicate to your PCP that the Naproxen is not working. It works Peripherally. They should start you on diclofenac. Also ask for a transdermal compound consisting of Ketamine, NSAID, Anesthetic, Muscle relaxant if needed, and Neurolytic if needed. If I knew more about your current pain and injuries I could be more specific.
