Avatar f tn I'm looking for help with diabetic supplies, mainly test strips and lancets. I have two different meters-One Touch Ultra Mini and Accu-Chek Aviva. Is there any place to get free supplies or very low cost supplies for these meters? Your suggestions ar greatly appreciated! Thank you !
Avatar m tn I'm not aware of any free resources, but I understand that if you get the right meter, Walmart has very low cost strips. Also many people report buying strips on eBay for greatly reduced prices. I would talk to your doctor or a local clinic, though, because sometime there are special offerings for free diabetes supplies through pharmaceutical companies, etc. I also notice right on this site ads for free supplies through dlifedotcom. They are a reputable organization.

Avatar m tn Diabetes may be associated with increased susceptibility to infections and reduced healing power and in a few cases may be associated with neuropathy and decreased vascularity that could lead to the formation of a diabetic ulcer. Management of a diabetic ulcer would involve adequate control of blood sugar level, prevention of further trauma/ extension and appropriate antibiotics in the situation of an infection.
Avatar m tn This is likely to be an ulcer with granulation formation. Management in such a situation is best discussed with his treating doctor and may consist appropriate measures of infection control such as antibiotics, debriment etc and control of blood sugar levels. Hope this helps. Take care!

Avatar m tn Hi, this may or may not be true w/ your cat, but we had a cat that became a diabetic because of the steroid drug she was put on for some colon issues. I know that sometimes vets will use this drug to treat cancer in our cats, too. So, if your cat has been given a steroid drug, either by injection or pill, then this could very well be the cause of her diabetes. And, as soon as this drug is stopped, so will the diabetes. Best wishes to you. I know first hand how tough your situation is.
Avatar m tn It seems like that you should consult a doctor for your blood test (especially sugar for diabetes) and neurological assessment. Diabetes in long run is associated with diabetic retinopathy (gradual loss of vision), diabetic neuropathy (numbness in extremities) and sometimes teeth loss. However, few neurological or different medical conditions may relate to few symptoms. Please consult a doctor at your earliest convenience. Hope this helps.

Avatar n tn Dear Paralegal, i am not aware of any insurance systems that one can change to that will cover diabetic supplies unless you become diabetic while on the insurance as after that most insurance plans i'm aware of will not treat a pre-existing condition. The only area i'm aware of that may have the information you desire is the American Diabetes Association.
15114787 tn?1438541373 Diabetes and CHC have important interactions. Diabetic CHC patients have an increased risk of developing cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma compared with non-diabetic CHC subjects. However, clinical trials on HCV-positive patients have reported improvements in glucose metabolism after antiviral treatment. Further studies are needed to improve prevention policies and to foster adequate and cost-effective programmes for the surveillance and treatment of diabetic CHC patients.
Avatar n tn Hi Firenfire! I am not a medical professional, just the mom of a type 1 diabetic, so any information you receive here should be verified with your healthcare team. I have not had any experiences with a high bg being the result of too much caffeine, but perhaps others will share their experience with you. Sounds like you should head to your doctor's for some blood work based on the bg's that you've been having.
