Avatar n tn Causes of floaters can be Short-sightedness, Vitreous detachment - commonly occurring with aging, Posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) - commonly occurring with aging, Retinal disorder, Retinal damage, Detached retina or Diabetic retinopathy and also Hypertensive retinopathy. I think you should see another ophthalmologist and take a review opinion. Alternatively you can also meet a neurologist and get a review scan done. Hope this helps. Bye.
Avatar n tn What is your father's best corrected vision in each eye? First of all diabetes is a leading cause of poor vision in the United States. Second there is no "minor diabetic retinopathy" that is treated with laser. Minor DR is just observed. Major diabetic retinopathy is treated with the laser for proliferative retinopathy, diabetic macular edema and lipid leakage encroaching on the macula. So to put it in perspective he has significant DR.

Avatar m tn my husband had signs and symptoms of diabetes for 15years before he went to see a doctor. After all the usual tests it was confirmed and he has started on medication. He has diabetic retinopathy for which he is getting treatment and regular B12 injections and the doctor has given him all the usual checks. He last saw him in July last year but has seen the nurse for a blood test twice and his b12 injections. My worry is that he hates going to the doctor but he is getting increasingly weak .
Avatar f tn If you are having a problem with your foods and controlling the sugar levels, it would be helpful for you to see a diabetic nurse or a diabetic dietician. High sugar levels in the blood will cause vision problems and can also lead to damage in the eyes called diabetic retinopathy that could lead to blindness - hence it is important to have your eyes screened every year. Having a check up with regard to vision is not the same as diabetic eye screening.

Avatar n tn The comment above about weight loss leads me to suspect that the posting by samusay is from someone who is not a type 1 autoimmune system diabetic, but may be a type 2 diabetic. The diseases are very different. I am not sure of any benefit from tumeric on type 1 diabetes. No harm, either, but I want to point out that the two diseases are different. Weight loss is a big issue for type 2 folks, but type 1 folks are usually lean and our health issues cannot be improved by losing weight.
Avatar n tn It sounds like your mother has proliferative diabetic retinopathy. I have that too. It has been more than two years now that I woke up one morning with loss of my central vision in one eye and aching on that side of my face and in the eye. A retinal specialist gave me a steroid injection that immediately relieved the pain. Subsequently I have had more steroid injections and laser treatments in both eyes.
177275 tn?1511758844 The findings of this study indicate that the utility values of floaters are equal to AMD and lower than diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. According to this study, floaters have lower utility values than mild angina, mild stroke, colon cancer, and asymptomatic HIV infection. This indicates that floaters have a significant negative impact on the quality of life as compared to ocular as well as systemic diseases.

483733 tn?1326802046 We found that some physicians, who believed that they had a patient with retinopathy, in fact, had symptoms caused by Aspartame. The Aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control. Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are NEUROTOXIC when taken without the other amino acids necessary for a good balance. Treating diabetes is all about BALANCE.

233488 tn?1310696703 There are many tests for OSD, some of them quite expensive, but the diagnosis can usually be made by a careful symptom review and examination of the eye and eyelids. For persistent problems a complete medical eye examination by an Eye MD ophthalmologist is needed plus telling the Eye MD about your symptoms and how troublesome you find them. Self education on OSD is extremely important.

Avatar n tn Eventually, the pancreas may not be able to produce as much as it's needed, the blood sugar goes up above 126 and you have now become a diabetic. In other words, you cannot be a diabetic Type 2 without first becoming insulin resistant. That means that ALL Type 2 diabetics are insulin resistant. Yes, I'm sure. I taught diabetes classes for three years.

Avatar m tn I may or may not have similar condition. I have central serous retinopathy in one eye, but a series of smaller "spots" with same pathology - they appear when I blink fast, or look at computer screen then look away. Been to eye hospital and told nothing wrong after slit exam (though no flourscene scan). It's difficult to tell, but I reckon I have 8 to 10 of these small light sensetive areas.
