Avatar f tn I am currently on the hcg injections from the Native Healing Ways clinic. Does anyone have any recipes for this 500 calorie diet? The information that the clinic has provided does list a few recipes but I would like to expand a bit as I am becoming board with current food choices. Also, I am mostly a vegetarian but eat some fish. Thanks!
1666434 tn?1325265950 I thought it might be helpful if we made a thread that shared some of your favorite diabetic safe recipes. This can just be something you make yourself all the time or a recipe you converted to be safe.
Avatar n tn hypoglycemic since I was a kid. I'm non-diabetic and they are unsure of the true cause of my hypoglycemia... though they think that it has to do with several genetic factors. I'm here because I'm hoping someone can answer some questions for me because my hypoglycemia has been really severe this year... I can't say a day has passed without me feeling some sort of major hypoglycemic symptom- to the point where I keep missing classes because I'm simply too sick to go!

Avatar n tn (It really is a shame that the official national Diabetes Associations throughout the world don't offer dynamic guidance beyond mere blanket recommendations suited to the general population, which supposedly address the concerns of both the diabetic-in-denial and the diabetic that takes things seriously) Thankyou.
Avatar n tn There is an excellent book I bought years ago titled "Good Recipes for Hard Times - a cookbook for people on a limited budget" by Louise Newton. Perhaps your library still has a copy. I searched on www.half.com and the used prices are pretty outrageous. Her first requirement, when money is short (quote follows): "first you must fill your people up, and then you must give them the best nutrition possible with the money you have.....
850033 tn?1239137014 190 sister(14 years old):130 me : 222! I am gonna check tomorrow morning again and see what the number is. 369861 tn?1306279286 The 5-6 small meals should help keep your blood sugars more stable. You say "More protein than starches". You do need carbs but try to go for the complex carbs that take longer to break down and simple carbs like sugar. Fruits and veggies both have fiber (complex carb), plus there's whole wheat bread, oatmeal, cereals, etc.
1809109 tn?1331807377 Ducky, it's not so much the recipe in my opinion, it seems to be the type of flour you use - or at least that's what I've run into. I've tried a variety of recipes and varied the flour because of the taste that results. I've begun to rely on a flour from a company called Authentic Foods. It seems I can use it for almost anything I bake - cookies, cakes, etc (but haven't tried bread) - with great success. I've specifically stuck with their Pancake and baking mix.
1123420 tn?1350564758 Hey seriously, if anyone wants to share recipes I totally need help in that area. There's like two things I can cook moderately good, everything else I try and fail. lol.
Avatar n tn The recipes are mostly word of mouth and these are very tricky flours to bake with but it can be done. Oatmeal. Flaxseedmeal. Oat or Flax flours have an interesting added benefit-they are so absorbent that they will suck up the carbs your body is processing, and their fiber will 'eliminate' the carbs more quickly. They also suck up the cholesterol. Your lab results will dramatically change if you make these flours a part of your daily routine.
Avatar m tn all day long and not gain an ounce. If you are adventuois, try eating more exotic veggies, learn recipes on how to prepare them. Just avoid any dressings that are fattening. That doesn't mean you can't make dips and dressings that are tasty and healthy however! Fruit is good to nibble on as well, just watch your carbs, follow a type 2 diabetic guide to keep track of the carbs fruits provide.
547836 tn?1302836432 any suggestions for routine foods or simple recipes that could save me from this hunger would be graciously appreciated.
Avatar n tn Venora, there are online recipes of low fat cookies like oatmeal that are made with oil and you can use egg whites. They do call for salt and baking soda though but you can use salt without iodine but I don't know if baking soda has it in it.
1550026 tn?1299339682 Hi Jennifer, I have Hashimoto's but have also gotten into Insulin Resisitance and Metabolic syndrome. I am an RN so I tried the traditional medical path first. After 3 Endocrinologists, I finally found a "functional medicine" doc. She is an M.D. but medical and surgical solutions are not her first choice for treatment. I did the micronutrient testing and discovered extremely low Bioitin levels which accounted for massive hair loss.
335728 tn?1331418012 Avoid all cereals except complete whole grain ones like regular oatmeal. Do not eat sugar on it. Also it would be great to check your blood sugar early in such an attack. Later in the attack, the body puts out adrenaline to save itself and this will pump the blood sugar up some. Well, more than you wanted to know, but a pet epic discourse of mine.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Victoza in September of 2010. Since my thyroidectomy two years ago I have gained 75 lbs! My endo says I am borderline diabetic. So, along with metformin, I took the victoza shots 3x daily for one month (the length of the free sample he gave me) and WOW did I love it. I never felt sick and I never felt hungry. In fact, I was often dragging by the end of the day because I'd had no food nor desire for food. I had to literally make myself eat.
Avatar n tn This is for anyone out there who might have information regarding gallbladder removal in senior citizens. I have a neighbor who is 78 years old, he is diabetic, has had blood pressure, arthritis and problems with reflux from time to time. He has had the usual tests for gallbladder problems and the ultra sound showed thickening of the walls, and his HIDA scan was 34%.
20202111 tn?1492379275 I guess for a low carb diet, I'd rather see oatmeal than potatoes... at least, oatmeal is a whole grain, so you're getting fiber with it and it takes longer to break down, so it's not going to spike your blood sugar. Mashed potatoes, on the other hand, will spike the blood sugar and increase the demand for insulin very quickly. No, the tests your doctor did won't tell if you have H. Pylori or any other parasite. Those have to be tested specifically, by name.
Avatar n tn There is a website called Davita that has some tasty recipes. The chicken enchaladas are really good. Keep in mind though that these are recipes for stage 4 and 5 kidney disease so you can add a little more protein to them. A good rule of thumb for protein is a little less than the size of your fist. If he is getting closer to stage 4 than I would consider a little less protein. I've gotten so that vegetable with salt taste funny, so your tastebuds will adjust.
Avatar n tn I am unsure how you all take Nopalina but I like to mix it with oatmeal and bobs redmill flax seed meal. Then put some milk on it cook it in the microwave like oatmeal. I personally have to have some splanda cinnamon and nutmeg on mine. Sometimes a little bit of ginger. Ginger is also very healthy for you to, you know. By the way, I buy my Nopalina at a lewis produce in Waukegan IL (its a suburb of chicago).
542733 tn?1217719151 The book and the website is full of great recipes that aid your digestion whether you have constipation or diarrhea. Anxiety and IBS often go hand in hand. IBS can be as debilitating as anxiety but with the right diet, it can help relieve your digestive issues and help with your anxiety as well. Good luck and let me know what you decide to do.

Avatar m tn had a small amount of nuts and a fiber brownie and a glass of water with metamucil. Same today, but i had chicken soup, a very small amount of fries and oatmeal. I was just worried that i was not getting enough calories every day, i should be getting at least 1595 and the last two or three days i have only had 1400 or so. Well, at least my losing more weight, even tho its not the right way to do it. 18 pounds down since jan...yay...

Avatar n tn Along with the injections I was eating very much like a diabetic. Low fat, low carb and minimal sugars. While I was taking the B12 I was losing 15 - 25 lbs a month. I decided to continue eating the same and stop getting B12 injections and my weight loss slowed considerably and my energy levels decreased. I have been told there is no medical reason why B12 helps weight loss but for me it really worked well and I am about to go back on it again.
Avatar n tn I do remember the anus being a bit itchy as well. But basically it is the labia. No STD, just a diabetic. Which I thought was the answer to the problem. But I really don't believe so. I can definately agree with the chapped lips cuts as well. I use anti itch powder, just a little relief though. I do believe I have vaginal dryness and I am sure the powder don't help that at all.
