1422878 tn?1284584593 If you think you have diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) you need to go to the ER. This is a possibly life-threatening situation.
Avatar f tn But that can be expected when you are ill. They have been running at about 150 to 200. It is not ketoacidosis. I am also a diabetic and know the signs. It was the first thing we had checked. I guess my main concern is that he is so weak and tired. I am at my wits end. Maybe returning to the ER for an IV to give him fluid and nutrients that he is unable to ingest is the only thing to do. Thanks again.
1436324 tn?1283698760 Dietary ketosis caused by fasting or eating very low carb is not the same thing as DKA (Diabetic ketoacidosis). DKA is a state of exreme and uncontrolled ketosis and will result after a period of time of very high blood sugars. People on low carb diets produce some ketones but it is not dangerous unless you have very high blood sugars consistently. Two very different things.
Avatar n tn you might have something known as diabetic ketoacidosis or metabolic acidosis
Avatar m tn The most important thing here is to realize that there is no direct cause and effect relationship between episodes of hypoxia, acidosis, respiratory distress, pneumothorax (though all these are interrelated and can be following each other) and the neurological outcome. As you too may be aware, severe hypoxia and severe acidosis can surely cause multisystem failure, but there is no defined sequence for it.
Avatar n tn Just because a person is diabetic does not automatically mean his or her urine composition is going to be different from a non-diabetic person. This depends on what kind of control the diabetic has on his or her glucose levels. If the person is tightly controlled and keeps glucose levels normal most of the time, the urine composition is going to be different from a non-controlled diabetic whose glucose is high or low as a general rule.
Avatar m tn Getting up to eat something to bring normalcy says he is a type 1 diabetic, not enough glucose. The fruity breath points strongly to Ketoacidosis.
Avatar m tn Short-term bad breath may be associated with tonsillitis, gastroenteritis, acid reflux, diabetic ketoacidosis, or sinus infection. Chronic halitosis may be caused by poor oral hygiene, gingivitis (gum disease), oropharyngeal infections or a dental abscess. I suggest you to get it examined from an ENT specialist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
1080243 tn?1262975363 Left untreated, diabetic ketoacidosis can lead to a diabetic coma. Diabetic ketoacidosis is most common in people who have type 1 diabetes, but it can also affect people who have type 2 diabetes or gestational diabetes. â– Diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome. If your blood sugar level tops 600 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), or 33 millimoles per liter (mmol/L), the condition is known as diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome. When your blood sugar gets this high, your blood becomes thick and syrupy.
Avatar f tn Lack of oxygen and acidosis can cause confusion and lack of orientation. Further decreased oxygen supply to the heart can cause angina or infarction. And the consequent decreased blood supply to the kidneys can cause a decreased urine output. It will become a vicious cycle. Respiratory support may be mandatory. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn If your skin is sweet fruity smelling and you have full-blown, uncorrected diabetes it can lead to ketoacidosis [DKA], the body has little or no insulin. DKA if left untreated can lead to diabetic coma or death. If your levels are within acceptable ranges you need to get blood work performed as there are a number of disorders which can cause a fruity/sweet smell on the skin.

Avatar f tn Is it possible for post motor vehicle accident trauma to neck to result in delayed onset of rapid upper lung breathing without lower lung, perhaps due to impaired diaphram, to lead to serum acidosis, respiratory arrest and coronary arrest? Prior to arrest experienced bowel dumping with loss of sphincter control. Apparently aspirated during CPR, developed double lung pneumonia and kidney failure. All better now, praise God. Ruled out heart, lung and kidney problems.
Avatar n tn Something needs to be done before you have to call 911 to treat diabetic ketoacidosis. I have been hospitalized for this 7 different times, each time being admitted to the icu. As soon as the vomitting start, I head straight for the emergency room because I have done this a few times and I know when its starting to get bad. I start to fell like I cant breathe. then I start vomitting. I also agree that the doctor doesnt seem to know what hes doing.
1327535 tn?1295227611 Although rare in t2 diabetics, the possibility of diabetic ketoacidosis, a life threatening complication, may have surfaced. Get off the computer and call your doctor now.
Avatar n tn You could easily be in DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) which requires immediate medical attention. I would guess that if you called your doctor and explained your symptoms, he/she may tell you to go the emergency room immediately. But either way, PLEASE GET IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION so you can get treated and be ok!!!!!
Avatar n tn We are sceptical of what doctors say and always try to find first hand from others their experience he was misdiagnosed twicw before he went into ketoacidosis and they figured out he was diabetic. So any info from people who live with diabetes is more useful than a doctors observations at times. And thanks for your reply.
Tbd If you feel bad, please go to the nearest emergency room. You are potentially at risk of diabetic ketoacidosis. Please make sure the people you are living with know what is going on and if you are acting strange / appear unwell, they should take you to nearest medical attention.
Avatar f tn This can progress to a serious complication called diabetic ketoacidosis. Testing the urine is one way to check for ketones. You can pick up urine test strips at your local drug store. Just follow the instruction to do the test. If I remember right if the test strip turnes pick you have ketones in your urine, plus the strip tells you if there is blood, glucose, and a couple other things. But If I were you I would go get checked out just incase. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Yes DKA aka diabetic ketoacidosis has those symptoms but so does high blood sugar in general. She has the 4 common symptoms of diabetes seen in kiddos.
Avatar n tn Ketoacidosis usually develops slowly. But when vomiting occurs, this life-threatening condition can develop in a few hours. The first symptoms are: Thirst or a very dry mouth Frequent urination High blood glucose (sugar) levels High levels of ketones in the urine Next, other symptoms appear Constantly feeling tired Dry or flushed skin Nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain (Vomiting can be caused by many illnesses, not just ketoacidosis.
