Avatar n tn Hello, Treatment for diabetic gastroparesis includes dietary changes (low-fiber and low-residue diets and, in some cases, restrictions on fat and/or solids); oral medications such as metoclopramide, cisapride, erythromycin and domperidone and adjustments in insulin dosage for those with diabetes. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn diabetic gastroparesis. now after all that rambling i'll try to quicker get to my question.the GI doc say's i'm too young for this.and + i'm not even diabetic.but that is his firm diagnosis.ALL my docs, him included are baffled as to why do i have this....is there anyone else here at all with similar stuff as mine?anyone...??? and btw in little over a year b/c of this i have lost just about 100 pounds now....
Avatar f tn Again, a support group will help you find a good in your area, or as close to your area as possible. Gastroparesis is uncommon enough that most doctors don't see a lot of cases and may not be aware of the options available. (Regalan is only one of the drugs available. Some drugs are good, but unavailable in the US because they don't have FDA approval even though it's first-line defense in places like Australia and England. I believe the drug's name is Domperidone.
Avatar f tn It's called diabetic diarrhea and it is caused by neuropathy. Gastroparesis is another symptom of diabetic neuropathy.
484160 tn?1343397921 Then they took out her gallbladder on the 10th of this month. Now they are calling it diabetic stomach (gastroparesis). She has been throwing up uncontrollably off and on for 2 years. She went in on the 10th and they removed her gallbladder. She went home from that and was back in the hospital on the 14th or 15th. They kept her until last night, sent her home and she is headed back to the hospital this morning, still throwing up.
Avatar f tn I'm Type 2 Diabetic and have other issues with my health, i have Gastroparesis, Barretts disease, IBS, Acid Reflux ( Gerd ) Stomach Hernia, and have had 9 Polyps taken from my Bowels ( non cancerous ). I know it's the diabetes thats killing the nerve endings in my stomach which has give me the gastroparesis but how do i control my sugars? i do my best but find it real hard.
Avatar m tn I don't know how long I have had diabetes II, I started on pills maybe in 1996. There was no name like Gert or Gastroparesis. A Doctor shoved a pipe down my throat and looked at my ? What he said sounded like something like a "cut" in my esophagus that let acid come up into my esophagus. I learned over 2 years, anytime I ate Roast Beef or tomatoe Juice, that place would close up and keep water from going into my stomach, after a few minutes, it would open back up.
Avatar n tn I have recently have been diagnosed with Diabetic enteropathy of the colon and my Gastroenterologist has prescribed Zelnorm for this condition.Has this medication been effective in treating Diabetic enteropathy snd what are the gratest side effects? Thank you.
Avatar n tn With a diabetic and gastric problems you have to think about gastroparesis but could be a lot of different things. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/gastroparesis/ Three months of nausea after eating is easily 87 days too many. Hope you feel better very soon.
Avatar n tn I have learned that there can be many different symptoms in relation to this complication. In regards to people with diabetes, gastroparesis is related to diabetic autonomic neuropathy. While my son has never had the problem you have with low blood pressure your comment sent me back to review my research. I came across a website from the Mayo Clinic that speaks to the issue of low blood pressure and autonomic neuropathy. The website is http://www.mayoclinic.com/invoke.cfm?id=HO00169.
Avatar f tn They basically assume that because he is a diabetic that it is gastroparesis. He is scheduled to have another gastric emptying test in the next week or so as our new specialist isn't convinced that is the problem. Lets hope that they can finally determine the cause for his symptoms. Thanks for the response.
Avatar f tn He is and has not felt well for a year or more. Diabetes and gastroparesis sometimes go hand in hand. Ask your doctor about Reglan. It is one of the cheaper medicines and works for my husband. Good luck.
Avatar m tn One of the most definitive tests in diagnosing gastroparesis is a gastric emptying study. Excerpt from Very Well Health article What Does Gastroparesis Feel Like?
Avatar n tn I also might have diabetic gastroparesis as well. I am just sick of being sick and sleeping all day and all night. Thanks for your interest. This is helpful.
Avatar n tn This is a condition supposedly found in about 50% of diabetics. It's where there is nerve damage ranging from mild to severe in the stomach, and the impulses that process the food through the stomach are slowed. Severe cases must be put on liquid diets, etc. Ok, I have none of the symptoms (fullness upon eating, nausea, etc.) but my doctor wants me to have a test done via x-ray to monitor movement of food through the stomach.
Avatar m tn Did they call it diabetic gastroparesis? I suspect that's what his diagnosis is, and it's not something you should forget because without it, people are starting over if you want help. Diabetes can damage a digestive nerve and cause gastroparesis. I don't think there is anything that can help the nerve once it's damaged, but controlling blood sugar is important. You could see if probiotics or digestive enzymes help, but it may not.
Avatar n tn My daughter, Kristy, got diabetes when she was 6 yrs old. She is now 30 - has had Gastroparesis since the end of August '04. We need a Gastroparesis Support Group... GOD bless all who partake in these Forums...
Avatar n tn I too have gastroparesis and am not a diabetic. I also have no known cause for it, which is becoming more and more common for young people. Gastroparesis can come in several degrees of severity. I don't know how bad yours is, but mine is helped tremendously by a steady prescription of prilosec and an occassional pepto-bismo dose. I also eat at constant intervals. Every time my stomach starts to burn (which is on regular hourly intervals), I try to eat something small.
Avatar m tn I have gastroparesis too, but I have non-diabetic gastroparesis so it is a little different for me. Is he on any medications to manage the gastroparesis (reglan, domperidone, erithromycin, etc.)? Is he eating a low-fiber, low-fat diet and eating multiple small meals every day? Is the problem that he can't get enough calories in because of nausea/vomitting or that he seems to be getting enough calories but he is still losing weight?
Avatar f tn I have extreme pain in my upper right quadrant and extreme nausea and vomitting. I am not diabetic so the doctors don't really know why this is happening. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn s declining health when s/he should be enjoying a story with mommy or a walk or a game. In the best of circumstances, diabetic women do have children. In circumstances like yours, a loving, compassionate, and wise alternative is adoption.
Avatar f tn My husband is 25 years old and a type 2 diabetic. He vomits up almost everything he eats everyday for the past six months. He experiences no nausea and has not lost any weight. We’ve done gastric emptying which showed no gastroparesis and he had a endoscopy that did not find anything. Does anybody have a clue what could be going on?
584742 tn?1219148217 My son has been a diabetic for the past 20 years- type 1. He is now 46 & has gastroparesis. He goes through sever stomach pains, then vomit, then retch then blood. He doesn't get very much sleep anymore but he feels that when he does sleep for quite a while, the pain is more severe. Can this be right?
Avatar f tn Hi my sister has been a type 1 diabetic for about 15 years now. In the past 6 months she has been in and out of the hospital every few weeks for excessive vomiting and nausea.
