Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes type i cure

diabetes

Avatar n tn Of course, I am not a doctor, only a volunteer with Type I Diabetes, so my answer shouldn't replace the information you can get from your medical books. My understanding of Type I is that an autoimmune response may be the cause of Type I and I suppose if you have one autoimmune response, it may be possible to be at risk for other autoimmune responses to other parts of your body.
Avatar f tn Alot of people believe that if they just lose weight they could get rid of their diabetes and there are even doctors on tv commercials in my area that stated they have the cure for diabetes but from what I have learned from my diabetes educator is that if you are obese and that your diabetes is coming from obesity you can lose weight and then be able to manage your diabetes with diet and exercise.
Avatar n tn If you are type 2, the diabetes can often be very well managed with low carb diet and exercise (read Dr. Richard Bernstein's "Diabetes Solutions"). However, if your pancreas is not working then insulin or meds are the way to go, in addition to diet and exercise management.
Avatar n tn Lucian I have had diabetes since I was 11 years now and I am now 18. Let me just start off by saying that I am a firm believer in a cure coming in my lifetime. I recently went to the annual meeting for the JDRF chapter in my area and heard of some exciting new research. You should check on their website for that. Also I do not know if you know, but 257 people have been cured with islet cell transplantation. Using the Edmonton Protocol pioneered in Canada.
Avatar f tn I got type 1 diabetes when I was 10 years old. My husband has type 1 diabetes also. My sisters daughter (my niece) got type 1 diabetes when she was 3 and a half. We have three young children of 5,6 and 7 years. Sadly my eldest son got type 1 diabetes when he was 2 and a half. I had been doing some random blood sugar tests on my youngest son who is 5 years old and his readings were coming up as 8.8,9.6,10.7,10.3 and 11.3. However some days they can be completely normal between 4 and 6mmols.
Avatar m tn This is absolutely a myth. There is no cure for Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetics produce insufficient insulin and need insulin to live. People want easy answers and for Type 1 diabetes there aren't any - not yet anyway. There are many types of natural treatments that are said to help Type 2 diabetes. Perhaps they do. But nothing helps as much as reducing carbs, losing weight and getting regular exercise.
Avatar m tn There is no cure for it I don't think. 1 thing I know with a friend is taking fenugreek seeds. Put 5 fenugreek seeds in a half glass hot water leave overnight and drink the water and eat the seeds. My friend says that it has helped.
4124125 tn?1350028141 Next week will find out exactly what type of diabetes is.Please let me know through strict diet and treatment is there a chance of cure. Mention that my mother is 58 years old, 1.70 tall and weighs 80 kg.This diagnosis I heard only yesterday.please help us !!!thank you!!!
Avatar m tn What you don't say is if your friend is on insulin and if she counts the carbs in her meals to ensure she is taking the correct doses. If she is, and monitoring her diet than she should be able to control her numbers much of the time. There is no permanent cure for diabetes but the correct use of insulin is the way to keep it under control.
Avatar n tn To answer your question though, yes I do think that they will find a cure soon. I just hope that I am right and my son doesn't have to suffer any longer than is necessary.
Avatar m tn That is correct. I am a Type II diabetic. I will always be a Type II diabetic. But I control it entirely by diet only. I've been eating Paleo for 5 years now. My semi-annually A1C's average around 5.8. The idea is to avoid anything containing carbohydrates. Now, that's pretty hard to do, but with a little effort, you can minimize them. My diet is rich in eggs, cheese, meats, and nuts, Pounds and pounds of nuts; peanuts, walnuts, pecans, and almonds.
Avatar n tn I am a recently diagnosed Adult type II diabetes. My sugar has been between 60 and 80 for the last couple of days. I have been taking 35 units of Lantus plus in addition to my diabeties pills. The reason I started taking the insulin is because my glucose could not be brought down. Now it is too down. Should I continue with the insulin now that is controlled?
Avatar f tn I can certainly understand the desire to have your daughter recover from Type 1 diabetes! Maybe in her lifetime there will be a cure! Good luck, I hope you get more predictable numbers soon.
Business man2 Last week diagnosed that i have Type II.please let me know the possible ways to keep myself healthy and quick recovery from it.
1644823 tn?1330055975 "It is curable with gastric bypass surgery." Gastric Bypass Surgery curing diabetes in obese people has been bouncing around since 2004. When people with gastric bypass regain their weight, and some of them do, their diabetes comes right back. The so-called curable part is with OBESE people having 35 to >40 BMI, their diabetes being mainly caused by their obesity. GBS does not guaranty diabetes reversal nor can it be considered a cure.
Avatar n tn But many studies are working on cures for type 1 diabetes, and some are even doing human testing. One I know of was calling for human volunteers a few years ago -- it was working with proteins that had been discovered in lab animals to stimulate the animals to begin producing their own insulin when they were type 1 animals. The question being researched was whether people would respond the same way, by growing insulin-producing cells.
Avatar n tn My daughter was diagnoised with Diabetes while she was going through Chemotherapy for Leukemia when she was 3. The chemo caused the diabetes and I was told that once the chemo was over that the diabetes would go away; well they were wrong!
Avatar n tn I am not a physican, but the mom of a type one diabetic. I wish i could believe this i read the advertisement ,for the cure - i wish it was that simple. To me it looks some one wants to get rich off our hope for a cure for this diease.
Avatar m tn There are lagitamet ways to control diabetes and BG and you dont have to pay for the info.
Avatar n tn Here is the cold fact, to me, there is NO best meds to treat or cure diabetes type 1 or 2. Overtime, even the cutting edge meds nor insulin shots can't even stop the progression of this horrible malady .
Avatar m tn I heard that some doctors in England put people with diabetes on a 600 calorie a day diet for 8 weeks and when the diet was over the majority of them no longer had diabetes. Why don't we do this here in America?
Avatar f tn Thanks all for all your comments, feels good to share my thoughts since I don't feel anyone close to me undersrands. I have never seen a therapist but have been advised to, maybe something I really need to look into. I stopped taking any of the meds I mentioned about a month and a half ago and am only on Desmopressin for DI, unfortunately I don't know which type of DI I have, but I know it took doctors a very long time to diagnose.
Avatar n tn This depends on whether it's Type I or Type II, and if the latter, how far the disease has progressed. If it's Type I, there's no cure and you have to do what your docs and nutritionists tell you to do. Type II is more of a lifestyle disease, as long as it hasn't progressed so far that it becomes almost impossible to separate from Type I. What type do you have?
