Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes symptoms in urine smell

diabetes

Avatar f tn For the past month I've noticed a very strong smell in my urine (sulfur smell). STD tests are clean, pregnancy tests are negative (no period in almost 2 months), I don't have many symptoms of a UTI (other than smell) and my test for diabetes was good. Besides that I feel perfectly normal. Can anyone explain?
Avatar n tn eating a new diet like increased quantity of meat or asparagus, taking Vitamin supplements (specially Vit B), urinary tract infections, diabetes mellitus including diabetic ketoacidosis. As diabetes and UTI also cause urinary odor, it is good for you to immediately go to a doctor and get yourself checked for the above conditions. Both of them cause increased frequency of passing urine and so one ends up dinking more water.
Avatar f tn The smell is almost similar to the smell of stale urine. You know that smell when urine sits for awhile.. kinda like that. And it's only really strong in the morning. It doesn't hurt to pee or anything... so should I be worried?
Avatar n tn At first, i notice it smells bad when i get in to the bathroom, and i can smell it even i am in the kitchen or anywhere in our house. He said he did not feel any pain or any other symptoms. What do you think he's got? If in case it's a UTI, which i think it's not, will i get it too? Please help me since i don't have anyone to talk to aside from searching here online.
Avatar f tn bt i read somewhere that durin pregnancy ur urine cn sometimes smell sweet..anyone had this problem.
Avatar f tn Is it sweet smelling or smells like maple syrup? Do you have personal history of diabetes?Urine odor is related to the volume and concentration of chemicals excreted by the kidney. Food, medication and dehydration can affect the odor of urine. Sometimes an unusual urine odor can be associated with an underlying medical condition, If this persists, it would be best to consult your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn If this is positive and you have smell of rotten eggs in urine then you need to cut down food items that contain sulfites. Most of this gas comes from sulfites a person consumes, which is a part of all preservatives. Sulfites are present in all juices, molasses, yellow dye in ready made food stuffs, and red wine. Sulfites are present in lesser amounts in mashed potatoes made from dry powder, pickles, tinned shrimp, cookies, crackers, and readymade pie dough.
Avatar f tn This can be diagnosed by urine culture. Strong fruity odor is due to uncontrolled diabetes. Urinary bladder infection and kidney infections do produce strong smelling urine. Another reason is dehydration. Strong ammonia smell is due to protein breakdown. I would strongly recommend you to see an urologist. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
4879855 tn?1360440197 Untreated diabetes gives you sugary urine (the old school test was for the doctor to taste-test it). You also drink and pee LOTS (polydipsia and polyuria). It also causes weight loss eventually if you don't have enough insulin to get your food to your cells. I agree with jemma that you should get checked for a UTI. A burning sensation while peeing can also indicate a UTI. Since you don't mention a fever, it's *probably* not as high up as the kidneys.

Avatar n tn could be medication. but i would also check out ovarian cancer. - only becuase i have the same sensation when i pee and i got an email a couple of weeks ago with symptoms of ovarian cancer and now im curious for myself as well.
Avatar f tn I have a strange question. A friend just called to say her ex-husband's sweat is now smelling like urine. He has been drinking along with taking pain pills and muscle relaxers for awhile. He has been having alot of problems with vomitting and had an Ultrasound which looked ok except that they couldn't see the pancreas due to bowel gas. He is supposed to have a CT scan done to double check but hasn't gotten around to it.
Avatar f tn Odor in the urine usually means some type of infection. Did you Dr. test you for a UTI? Is your urine darker then usual?
Avatar f tn A sickeningly sweet smell is usually due to diabetic ketoacidosis and if felt in urine and sweat. I understand that diabetes is under control—was a gylcosylated hemoglobin done to check the over all control? The second possibility is menopause. Get FSH, LH, estrogen and progesterone levels checked. If found in menopausal age group, then hormone replacement therapy will help take care of the odor. Take care!
Avatar n tn I have noticed recently that there is a sweet smell of my urine and I would like to know if this could possibly have anything to do with diabetes. I have diabetes and at the moment it is out of control. I am having a lot of high-blood sugars, if this is ketone related, should I not be losing weight, instead I seem to feeling both heavier and bloated. If you can please answer this I'd be most appreciative.
Avatar n tn Over the years i have noticed a strong sweet, maple syrup smell in my urine and it is very warm, a huge decline in my memory, and increased tiredness. I am forgetful of everything now and i have noticed i am having difficulties at work and home with word slurring and typing/writing backwords. i have gained 60lbs in 4 years without changing anything....i work about 60 hours a week in an active job, and i do not sit down untill about 11pm.
Avatar f tn Hello, The most common cause of oily urine is ketones in urine. These appear in individuals with uncontrolled diabetes and also during periods of starvation or a stringent dietary regimen. Presence of oily substance in urine along with orangish or dark yellow-colored urine can be attributed to biliary disease or jaundice. Increase your intake of water and avoid caffeine and alcohol. Pimple like bumps can be due to boils, folliculitis, impetigo or pyoderma.
Avatar n tn Generally bad odor is due to infection, mainly by E coli. This can be diagnosed by urine culture. Strong fruity odor is due to uncontrolled diabetes. Interestingly urine odor changes in menopause too. Urinary bladder infection and kidney infections do produce strong smelling urine. Another reason is dehydration. Strong ammonia smell is due to protein breakdown. With increased frequency of urine UTI, bladder infection and diabetes have to be ruled out. Please discuss this with your doctor.
