Also, if I have to be put on insulin what type of diet options do I have with that? I'm so devastated I just really don't think this is something I can handle and I'm scared for my baby.

325405 tn?1262293778 I gained 90 pounds being pregnant (gestational diabetes which turned in to full blown diabetes) two years ago, and before that, I was normal weight. I have been watching calories the last two years, maintaining a diet of around 1200 to 1400 calories, but the doctor said that caloric intake with the insulin resistance thing was not going to help me, it's the carbs.
Avatar n tn So, my first recommendation is that you find a doctor who is a specialist in treating diabetes. Your local Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation chapter may be able to recommned some names to you. The goal is for you to be able to eat a healthy and well balanced diet and to take the amount of insulin required for your body to be able to use that food effectively for energy and to keep you in general good health.
Avatar f tn First couple days i panicked, on what i can and cannot eat. Im slowly figuring this out, however if anyone has any easy breakfast,snacks,lunch & dinner recipes i would greatly appreciate it. Ive overloaded my google bar i believe haha.
Avatar n tn My daughter has had diabetes for 10 years and has experienced significant weight gain. She has tried over the years to lose with diet and exercise but to no avail. She has recently done Weight Watchers for one month and followed it religiously. She lost practically no weight. She also exercise at least five times a week for an hour and a half. She is very frustrated and I don't have any answers. Unfortunately, her doctors over the years don't seem to be able to help.
Evillady I went the easy way. I just removed from my diet, anything "white". Rice, potatoes, pasta, products made with flour. I also took out peas, and many beans as well. I replaced them with cheese, olives, nuts, meats, and lots of eggs. At one time, I was consuming nearly 18 eggs per week. I've dialed that back to half that now. Eating "Paleo" works for me.

The internet can be scary to read but also you can find some very helpful information, there are so many recipes to choose from. Hope that helps and good luck! I'm 29 weeks with my baby girl and trying really hard to watch what I eat.
Avatar f tn When I want to reduce the amount of fat I take in I generally sick to chicken based recipes rather than the usual beef and pork recipes. I have found these diets are very successful, make the most sense for those fighting diabetes, and once you get into the swing of things they are very easy to stick to.
Avatar f tn I also like to look up diabetic friendly recipes on pintrest along with gestational diabetes meal ideas. My doc also told me I could have one sweet treat a week if I wanted so I dont feel so deprived. It can be hard I'm not going to lie. I ate a peice of chocolate today cause I was craving it for days. But you can do it and your not the only one. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Try doing the diabetes/gestational diabetes diet...the basics... limit carbs intake to 30g per meal, cut as much sugars as possible (I drank fruit juices, soda, Starbucks coffee loaded with sugar, ate ice cream and candy-- and eliminated 95%), and they have a lot of awesome recipes on pinterest... I was told I have GD and was forced to change my eating habits to diabetic eating habits and have lost weight... I haven't gained anything this pregnancy and I'm 36 weeks pregnant...

The first 20 minutes or so you're burning off excess glucose, then you burn fat for energy. If you're not breaking sweat your exercise program is lackadaisical. If you walk start slowly to warm up then pick up the pace as if you're late to catching your airline flight. Don't stroll like you're window shopping at the mall, try to walk with a purpose.

There are many diet plans for diabetics, but the ones that work best are usually custom-made for individuals, tailored to their specific needs by their nutritionist/dietitian. Was the diet plan your doctor gave you created with your input and have you discussed your concerns with him?

539156 tn?1281821956 Rather than Weight Watchers' I think I actually need to research more about avoiding Diabetes since my blood sugar runs too high....What you said about doing it for yourself...that's huge. I am single, but I do cook for people and am way too concerned about what they might want. I am going to process this...I will write tomorrow. I am going to the Jersey Shore for a vacation in about 6 weeks. That's another good reason to start now!
Avatar f tn I cried so bad. When they diagnosed me with gestational diabetes I was so scared. But its not bad if you do get the diagnosis. They just tell u to cut out sweets and eat healthier. Easy as that :) good luck to you!

Avatar n tn Since my doctor has not been following my diabetes, today I used a Health Screening site to check my A1C and paid for it out of my own pocket instead of using my insurance. It's been almost a year since the doctor felt it necessary to check it. It is 8.0. The only diabetes related problem I'm aware of having is a fairly high amount of protein lost in the urine. I've been diagnosed with diabetes for about five years and have worked hard to keep it under control with diet and exercise.
Avatar n tn Although I try really hard, I don't seem to get my diabetes controlled.I often have blood glucose ranging between 250 and 350 for some hours in the day. That happens because I don't check my glucose often.I also eat too much without having my insulin injected.I inject it after I have eaten. And the third problem is that I just can't help eating cakes, chocolates and so on.
Avatar m tn If you need help with meals and snacks, just leave me a message. It's not easy changing what you eat. I've had to work with two of my three kids because they have a tendency for high insulin levels. I changed their diets slowly. I buy frozen fruit, put it in a blender with some water and make slushies. When they get home from school, I put out a plate of fruit with some cubes of cheese as a snack. Or peanut butter on a rice cake. Or celery with a tablespoon of cream cheese.
Avatar n tn Eating a low carb diet is the best option. Eat lean protien sources like fish, chicken, beef. For essential fats eat salmon, olive oil, almonds. the only carbs should come from fruit and vegetables. Drink only water not juice.
