Avatar f tn Misery loves company. Now you must boldly display your stars and best answers even if it has nothing to do with real information or good advise. And remember, honest criticism or argument is not allowed and your stars may wander if you choose to engage in such activity.

Avatar n tn Some studies seem to show that some type 1 diabetic people who have suffered from repeated hypoglycemic episodes (low blood sugar episodes) can display temporary or perhaps some permanent loss of memory function. There is a good article on the following website about some studies on this issue, using both young and older type 1 patients. If you can skim through the technical language, it does offer some good information: http://diabetes.diabetesjournals.
188761 tn?1584567620 Hi All, I would really appreciate if some one could take time to shred some light on the condition that my mother is going through. She has been lately diagonosed with diabetes and is on medication currently. She has been developing rash on her neck and face. Also, complaining about her eyes itching.
Avatar n tn I have also read that some diabetic children seem to at times display a discoloration on their necks that looks very much like just neck dirt, but won't wash out. If this is what you are seeing, it is not a cause for alarm. Just an odd phenomenon that some diabetic children seem to show and that researchers are just beginning to test. At age 12, some inflammation such as beginnings of acne could be showing up as red or inflamed areas, too.

Avatar n tn Intermitten hyperglycemia can be caused by many things. It can also be symptoms of type 1 diabetes. If she does not have diabetes, I would talk to her doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment. Please keep in touch and let us know how your daughter is.
798555 tn?1292787551 Good read LM. Another ongoing 'diabetes cure' research is 'pancreatic islet cell transplant' http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/pancreaticislet/ For those unaware of what islet cells do follow this rather brief synopsis. Insulin is a hormone that helps the body use glucose for energy. Diabetes develops when the body doesn't make enough insulin, cannot use insulin properly, or both, causing glucose to build up in the blood. Islets within the pancreas contain ßeta cells.
Avatar n tn I might be working a there again this summer, still waiting to hear back. I highly recommend diabetes camp for kids and teenagers. It truly helped me understand and take better control of my diabetes. And I still have friends that I talk to that I met that first year I was there.
Avatar f tn Several factors have been proposed as possible causes such as emotional stress, psychological factors, habits, allergies, diabetes and hormonal disturbances. However, none of these factors have been conclusively linked to geographic tongue.” So it seems that no one knows what causes this condition However: “A condition that causes harmless tongue patches resembling smooth, red islands. Avatar f tn You want to check on diabetes. People who develop acanthosis nigricans often are obese or have diabetes or both. So, it would be wise to investigate further. I understand it is complicated with your son's autism, but this would be worth knowing. Since you do the shopping, you have some control over diet. Losing weight may be what is required of him although I realize that is hard. Hard for us all but particularly with your son.
Avatar n tn I would like to add the blood pressure, diabetes, weight, exercise tracker as web apps /gadgets in my website pls let me know how this is possible.
Avatar n tn It is also a new practice (Joslin diabetes center - one of the world'sleading diabetes management and research centres) to start all persons with diabetes on insulin instead of oral meds. Glipizide is a drug that makes your pancreas put out more insulin so it can cause lows. It can also make your pancreas burn out faster. So do research this and consider stopping this drug (in coordination with your Dr.) Metformin does not have this effect. So you can ask your Dr.
Avatar n tn The answer you expect to receive is directly proportional to the amount of information you provide us, we have no idea what your 3 word post is asking. If it's related to diabetes please clearly state what it is; if it was something a doctor told you, why he/she said it, something you read, and so on. For a non-diabetes definition of 'halo' go buy a dictionary or search online for one.
Avatar n tn I am a student at San Francisco State university and I am creating a magazine for teen girls with Type 1 Diabetes for my senior thesis project. My sister was diagnosed when she was 5 and now that she's 13, things are getting more difficult. I decided that a magazine aimed specifically at teen girls with diabetes might be helpful. It is going to be almost like a fashion magazine covering issues like eating disorders to politics but in a way that is interesting and accessable.
Avatar f tn The food diary contains nutritional information, including sodium. If you enter what you eat durign the day, it should tally up the amount of sodium and display it to you in the report section under the "micronutrients" heading.
1002740 tn?1250259880 You give SO LITTLE INFORMATION in your post it is very difficult to respond. I assume you have been diagnosed with diabetes. What were you told about how to manage that condition? Diet? Exercise? Oral medications? Do you follow this regime? Blood sugars from 180-456 on a regular basis put you in real danger of serious diabetic complications. I suggest you see a doctor/diabetic educator and learn how to manage your diabetes ASAP.
Business man1 Go to the website of the American Diabetes Association; they have lots of information and you need it.
Avatar n tn my diabetes is out of control..my dr has me on 2 types of insulin, but it is not helping..i'm exercising following what i eat..
Avatar n tn JDRF is a wonderful organization, and the only one solely focused on type 1 diabetes research. Children with Diabetes is also a wonderful organization, and the Quilt for Life display is very powerful. We have submitted our quilt square (a 3 foot by 3 foot square), the link to it is here: http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/activities/quilt/pages/1/q451i.
