Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes in dogs and cats symptoms

Avatar n tn She has been sick since Sunday and has been diagnosed with pancreatis, which apparently is a common problem in dogs with Cushings. Currently she is in the hospital on IV fluids and IV antibiotics. We are very fortunate to have a very good local vet and her condition does seem improved, but we always have the option of taking her to University of PA veterinary hospital. They are wonderful compassionate people there and have been life savers for some of our other animals.
Avatar f tn The last cause I can think of for lumps in this region is cancer, even in young cats. Sometimes young cats develop fibrosarcomas and they can occur in this region. These tumors need to be removed and very wide surgical margins made around the area the tumor occupied. For this reason it may be best to have a needle aspirate done first and the type of tumor identified if possible.
4105307 tn?1369535032 It has been so hard to get information on Cushing's in cats and I was so hopeful to find out more from someone who actually had a Cushing's cat. I will message her and see how things are going.
2186126 tn?1384961026 I am not testing her for Cushings because in my heart, I know that's what it is. She has most of the symptoms and talking about the tests and meds, it is expensive and there are no guarantees. The side effects from the meds can be nasty as you said. I won't put my precious girl through that or myself. We will spend the rest of her days enjoying each day as best we can. Yes, our walks are slower and shorter but we still take them. Diva will let us know when the time is right.
Avatar f tn Your dog will have more energy, arthritis will be less of a concern, even cancer rates are lower in lean dogs and cats. Good luck.
351317 tn?1204755471 problem (very trendy these days), an intolerance to aspartame, to flouride, to lead in the pipes, and on and on. Just ask and you'll get several thousand suggestions of "what this sounds like." Re: Notquiteright's symptoms, knee swelling should NOT make you think someone has Lyme disease - yes, it's all the rage these days, but it's still not THAT common; he'd be much more likely to have septic arthritis from gonorrhea than Lyme disease!

931217 tn?1283484935 In the United States, the uterus is typically removed along with the ovaries in females, and virtually all dogs and cats are spayed or castrated. In Europe and some other parts of the world neutering is far less common, and when females are spayed only the ovaries are usually removed. The primary purpose of neutering is to prevent reproduction, but like most medical interventions the procedure has a variety of other effects, both beneficial and undesirable.
Avatar n tn I have all those symptoms and more, and have microscopic blood in urine, but no bacteria, so it's not an infection, but could be many different things, just make sure you do get in w/a doctor, maybe even try a reg. physician first to get in sooner and rule out infection or get meds for it! In the mean time you could take uristat or azo to relieve some pain, that's all they've told me to do for now! Good luck!

Avatar m tn in the middle way, I have crust accumulated in my nostril and sometimes I can pick and get it out (quiet a bit); and in my lower breath path or deep in my throat, I have thickened mucus and gel like tiny balls and hard to get them out. I have tried different things to reduce the mucus secreation. However none of them has been proven effective or without side effect. Lately I started to us SinusWars2. I noticed that my muscus has been getting less and my nostrils are getting clearer.
203342 tn?1328740807 00 a.m. only to find that he has peed in the house???? We have taken both dogs for a walk, and then left for an hour or so, Only to find that Chester has peed & pooped right next to Wally's kennel? Is that a statement or what? I just got a phone call from home that the dogs were left alone for 1.5 hours, so Chester has peed again. I do not know what to do!!!!!! My frustration is going over the top. I know he's getting old, but to come home daily only to find him doing this?
4105307 tn?1369535032 Mine just spent some time in emergency care/hospital and her main symptoms waere refusal to eat and hiding along with mouth breathing and extreme tiredness. I didn't want her to suffer at all and I got her in and was told she was close to death, at 3 years of age I made the choice for care and she is now back to normal. I don't know what the answer is really in your case.
Avatar n tn you might have to get it in shot form if you are really bad. Nerves can grow back and be repaired. All these symptoms of tingle itchy or pin pricks is nerves and inflamation. When our body is up the muscles are up and working. When we lay down that goes away and gravity takes hold and thus putting pressure on the nerves.
Avatar m tn I started reading online and found that many cats are allergic to the fillers in cat foods, so I switched him to Natural Balance. No change in the vomiting, but his coat is much more silky. Several months later, after hearing really good things about Blue Buffalo, I gave that a try. Again, no change. Back to reading, I found that probiotics might help, so I tried mixing some in with a little wet cat food (he usually only eats dry cat food). He just sniffs it and walks away.
Avatar m tn I try wet food in the mornings and hot dogs in the day and evening he loves them but lately he has not been eating his dogs either and losing more weight. I looked on one sight that's says he needs more protein and better food, but I feed him the same as I always have, I have tried to increase the wet food thinking his teeth was hurting but I don't know I wish I could afford to take him to a vet but I am disabled myself and not working waiting for social security to finalize their decision.
Avatar f tn I take phenergan myself for constant nausea, and discovered late in the game that dogs can also take phenergan. It didn't work quite as well as the reglan, but at that point we tried anything we could get our hands on. Over the counter Dramamine for motion sickness can be tried as it is metabolized in the liver - got that info from an ER vet nearby.
Avatar n tn There are so so many pitched to the road cats and dogs in todays America.....So sad! People too! And I take them in and do what I can! Anything is better than fending for themselves on busy roads & fighting wild animals at night. It really is just awful! WHAT wanders to my back porch and in my small barn.....day after day, year after year. And increasing in todays world so full of poverty for so many.
Avatar m tn What a blessing for the both of you that you have been there for her sober. Some people believe dogs and cats are just animals, you and i know differently. What keota did for you yesterday no therapist could do in a lifetime........Give that big boy a hug and kiss from me and the fainting goat! (oops kitties too!
1358341 tn?1282213443 Drinking is good for your cat, as long as your cat is taking in enough water it helps to flush out toxins..I sit a bowl in the dining room, one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom, since cats are random drinkers . My cat's kidney values haven't changed for the worse much in the past 6 months and it was over a year ago that her levels became slightly abnormal.
Avatar f tn It was a concerted effort with me, doctors, therapists, friends, and people who just cared and knew me, plus a few dogs, cats and backyard animal visitors who gave me "animal therapy." I was surprised when my psychiatrist said he didn't think I needed all the meds I was on, so he started to take them off one by one.
Avatar n tn Hi there...a lot of veterinarians have issues with long term usage of steroids in dogs or cats. There is the possibility that continued use of prednisone can cause overactive adrenal glands resulting in too much cortisol in the body (this is one of the body's natural steroids). Since steroids suppress the immune system, llike zodiacqueen has mentioned, chronic recurrent infections can occur. Other signs are increased drinking and urination, voracious appetite, hair loss, and enlarged belly.
173930 tn?1196341998 One day I'm going to have a house full again of 4-legs, rummaging through garbage cans and getting in trouble. I still have two dogs and three cats, and so I'm not "pet deficient" yet. Best of luck to you on tx! And best of luck with your decision on your beloved dog. You'll get through it. I'm sure she's had a great 14 years with you.
Avatar f tn you mentioned she is 16, although this is considered her senior years she could still have many more left ahead. I used to work at a vet clinic and we frequently had cats coming in that were in their 20's! With all the advances in vet. medicine pets are living longer and longer these days. I hope you are able to figure out what is going on. Good luck and let us know how she is doing!
Avatar n tn I have had the same symptoms in my lower left leg. I Googled the problem and found your comments. I am going to the Dr. on Monday. I will post what ever I find.
931217 tn?1283484935 Polymerase chain reaction assays were used to detect DNA from Cryptosporidium spp, Neospora spp, and Toxoplasma spp in samples obtained in the third and fourth sampling periods. Results—One hundred fifty-three of 288 (53%) samples were contaminated with NTSEC. Both raw and prepared foods contained NTSEC during at least 1 culture period. Salmonella enterica was recovered from 17 (5.9%) samples, all of which were raw meat products. Campylobacter spp was not isolated from any samples.
Avatar m tn One that show up fairly frequently in dogs is diabetes. Normally a short course of steroids will not cause any problems, but every dog's system is different and they all react differently to meds. Just like with people, what doesn't seem to affect one dog in the least can throw another dog into a complete tailspin. A large increase in water intake, especially when coupled with weight loss, is one of the main red flags for diabetes.
147426 tn?1317269232 which occurs without provocation in a small spot in one foot and simultaneously in a small spot in my groin, abdomen, or ribcage on the same side. Mostly on the left--but sometimes on the right. These are fairly isolated but also tend to occur for days or weeks and then disappear for many weeks.
Avatar n tn I don't have allergies of any kind and I'm in excellent health and I can learn to live with the smell of fresh baked bread in my nostrils.. I mean it could be owrse.. still I think I should get someone to check this out especially as I read about Phantom smells being a possible side efect of brain tumors...
