Diabetes and the oral cavity

Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes and the oral cavity

Avatar m tn I experience spontaneous swellings mostly around my face, oral cavity, tongue, and nasal tissues. This has been going on for 5 years now -- during which time I have been hospitalized 23 times. They can't find the cause - hence the term IDIOPATHIC. The only medication that seens to resolve these swellings is Prednisone -- a steroid. At the end of every swelling episode (which I treat with Prednisone) a lot of sugar gets dumped in my blood stream.
Avatar f tn Candida doesn't become a problem until there's a change in the chemistry of the oral cavity that favours candida over the other micro-organisms that are present. These changes can occur as a side-effect of taking antibiotics or drug treatment, such as chemotherapy. These changes can also be caused by certain conditions – such as diabetes, drug abuse, malnutrition – and as a consequence of immune deficiencies relating to old age or infection – such as AIDS.
Avatar m tn Hi Jane95. It looks like oral thrush and the most significant aspect of it is the presence of bumpy lesions containing whitish pus, mainly on the tongue, but can be found on other parts of the oral cavity as well. Please note that no-one can confirm it is oral thrush, as it would be unethical to do so. This is not a place here to get a medical diagnosis. For a medical diagnosis, you must be seen and examined by a medical doctor.
Avatar m tn My exercise is pretty much in place and constant as I am determined to be in the best fit as possible while haveing Hep C and Diabetes. Reckon the multiple meds at same time is a little perplexing to me. Never being on any for the diabetes is a little over my head. In just a couple of months I've gained 8/9 lbs on Amaryl which is not what I want to do. Are any of the other meds better for weight control than the other?
Avatar f tn this year, 2007 i have been pregnant twice, both times with twins and i have lost all 4 babies. I had a bad tooth the first time that needed pulled and a bridge put in. I just recently had my last miscarriage and my one tooth on the bridge started hurting me - i'm thinking a cavity and maybe in need of a root canal. This last one was the same as yours 15 heart beat just stopped. I had genetic testing (cvs test) done so i know genetically all was well.
Avatar n tn My school physician (2nd doctor) diagnsoed it as strep, but did not take a throat culture and perscribed Zythromax. I have alerady taken it for 5 days and the white stuff in my throat (specifically on the lower left and right portions of the throat - I gues these are the tonsils) have not gone away. I have no fever. My friend's doctor took her throat culture and she didn't have strep. So I am a bit concerned. I have been with a few working girls, but always protected.
Avatar n tn You seem to minimize the effects of the Herpes virus. As you and the rest of the Medical community know, Herpes has very serious health implications if not properly diagnosed and if lifestyle/diet is not appropriately modified. Oral Herpes (HSV-1) is steeply on the rise because of advice such as yours. You're downplaying the concerns of your readers. I since that many of your readers may have HSV-1 (oral Herpes), yet you will never know until you're tested for it.
Avatar f tn You need to under investigations like blood sugar, HIV ELIZA, chest radiograph to rule out the causes. Oral cavity should be looked for candidiasis which may be eythematous and needs anti-fungal treatment. Drugs like Pilocarpine or Cevimeline, which prevents dry mouth, should only be taken after consultation from physician. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn It is effective with bacterial and viral infections, and some but not all fungal infections. The Flip-Turn is the original, and still the best Sinus Flush. WARNING! DISCLAIMER! The technique in this manual involves bending over in a hot shower. Obviously, if you bend over in a shower, there is a slight possibility that you can get dizzy and fall down. You could possibly hit your head, get knocked out, or break something.
Avatar n tn Oral Thrush may be present, or/ yeast infections that fail to go away, this is because the normal fungal/flora present in oral cavity/cervix in women, the balance is upset and bacterial began to feast on the high sugar from urine output/ dry mouth from extreme thirst. Muscle wasting.
Avatar m tn It felt like I was going to have a heart attack. My EKG and blood work at the hospital were all normal. In the past 4 weeks, I have also had a CBC, blood chemistry, mono test (Epstein-barr) -- 2 times, strep, HIV, chlamydia and gonorrhea. All came back negative. In addition to the chest pain, I have also had pains in random areas of my body that last for 1-2 minutes and then go away.
209384 tn?1231171906 I haven't made any recent new stones so I wonder if that still applies but when I was pregnant I chugged Mylanta by the bottle bcz of gallstones and I do wonder if the calcium carbonate fueled the stones that developed after pregnancy ??? we'll never know. Good ? ......
611067 tn?1458595083 About 5 years ago I had to have a root canal, and the doc left something in that on the re-visit, (although I had called nearly daily to say I was in terrible pain, and was ignored) he commented with surprise that he had left some tool in my gum. This, I do for me, as the hairdresser commercial says. I avoid dentists unless I'm dying. As a courtesy to myself.
6322039 tn?1380731598 She has a Thyroflex machine in her practice and I was given the test. I do not know anything about this test, and all I have for reference is the sheet that was printed out afterwards: My reflex score was 163. (The 'prefire' range is 132 and the 'fire' range is 295.) I was told I am hypothyroid due to the slow reflex response.
Avatar m tn Having indigestion could be from the Gallstone that is there depending on the size could be blocking the organ’s ducts and prevent digestive bile from reaching the small intestine. Do you have nausea, bloating, gas, abdominal pain? Do you have control of your Diabetes? Sometimes if not controlled can cause the gallstones. Being diabetic puts you at higher risk for gallstones. The enlarged liver could be from the obstruction of the gallbladder or bile ducts.
Avatar n tn Oral Thrush is a form of Candida. Everyone has Candida in the mouth; it cannot be "gotten rid of" completely. You need it there, just not so much of it. It will only become a problem if there is a change in the oral cavity which kill the bacteria keeping Candida under control and it grows in the mouth. Diabetes, malnutrition, infection in the body, HIV or other immune disorder are common reasons this growth occurs. People wearing dentures or bridges always have Candid on them.
Avatar m tn We are compiling a database and sending the results to Dr. Jill Smith of the Hershey medical center who did the phase 1 clinicals on LDN and Crohn's disease (2/3 in total remission in 3 weeks on LDN). She is interested in doing a pilot study of LDN on hep c patients. Dr. Berkson has been using a combination of LDN and IV alpha lipoic acid for his hep c patients for a long time with very good results. My doctor is not Dr. Berkson, but Dr.
Avatar n tn Dr. Rajput, Thank you for your time and consideration. After taking a sublingual drug for 4 years my teeth started becoming brittle and breaking off at the gumline, I also had a good case of gingivitis. I ended up having all my teeth pulled and now I'm wearing dentures. Ever since my oral surgury 3 months ago the smell has gone away, I think I agree with you when you mentioned "oral problems".

Avatar f tn I was left with a numb chin and lip and depression on top of that. I have been to the oral surgeon several times telling him of this miserable ordeal and he says there is nothing he can do. He says the wait could be 6-12 months, well next month will be month number 6. I have some sensation in my chin, but my lip on the left side is still numb. This has been the worst ordeal ever and this is not my first surgery. I have never heard of anyone having this until I got on this forum.
Avatar n tn Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area. This tearing is not related to intercourse since my husband and I are unable to do that due to the pain it causes me. There is no real pain otherwise. I am getting some minor bleeding when I poop due to the tears in the anal area.
Avatar n tn A few months after I had my daughter, I started having stabbing head pains on the left side of my head near the temple area and in the top of my head. These pains would happen maybe once a month. Now they have become more frequent. Along with that, I started having a numbing, tingling sensation on the left side of my face. Almost at the same time I experience the numbness, I have a constant drainage (feels like sinus drainage) down the back of my throat and its on the left side only.
Avatar m tn I slept with a female during undergrad and had unprotected oral and vaginal intercourse. 2 weeks later I had severe pain after ejaculation and on the 3rd week I was severely sick for a few weeks and a sore throat lasting a few months. I asked the girl to be tested but she was afraid and said she was fine. Granted this left "what ifs in my mind". It also lead me down the same rabbit hole many of you are currently going through. By this I'm referring to having a plethora of HIV tests.
Avatar n tn A crown has been temporarily glued on over a cavity.
Avatar n tn They claim it only takes a few weeks with the liquid and a few months with the oral pills. Do an internet search on EDTA and read about it.
Avatar n tn All I know is that I need to find out what causes this because it is starting to freak me out. I have always been in good health and Cancer and Diabetes are the only diseases in my family history. And that doesn't happen until they are 55 and older. If anybody has any information that could help, please resond. And If I find anything out I will too resond.
Avatar n tn Hello, The commonest cause for causing such white patches is oral candidiasis or thrush. The other causes are leukopakia or oral lichen planus. Candida may involve the oral cavity (thrush), the pharynx or esophagus, the gastrointestinal tract, the urinary bladder, or the genitalia. The best tests involved in the diagnosis of candida are scrapping or swab examination of the scrapings after KOH mounting.
Avatar f tn Salivary secretion can be reduced by certain types of medication, like anti-histaminic drugs. A foreign body in the oral cavity or a side effect of some medications can cause excess production of saliva .A muscle tone might be less than adequate. It is best to consult a doctor if the symptoms are severe or persistent. I hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn Now the meds the ENT gave for this, the steroid nasal spray and antihistamine, did not help. The Prednisone (steroid) did. Now I'm better...not 100%, but never know from day to day. The back of my head hurts when I sleep, waking me, but when I'm up it's ok. I did take 3 rounds of antibiotics before I was sent to the ENT. I don't have green/yellow sinus discharge and never did. So...the ENT is sending me for allergy testing.
Avatar f tn I take synthroid 100mg since 1995, Victoza injection, januvia, and hazaar and b12 2000 mg sublingual, b9, and biotin for the last year. I went to a dentist and a salivary gland specialist and they don't think it's a big deal! Because they say dry mouth is worse, but i have the opposite of that. The ent prescribed rubinol to dry up the saliva which I haven't taken yet. I have even thought about making my front 6 teeth longer to keep from spitting on people when I talk!
