I have nine children and I would stand in front of a freight train to protect them if its what I needed to do. Most parents would say the say thing. However, you are allowing your child to take a substance that bears an underlying responsibility for school shootings, sucides and children killing their parents. ve never been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD but about 2 nights ago, my roommate offered me 4 dextroamphetamine pills to help me study for all of my midterms. I took them all, and my heart was beating really fast and my chest felt tight. Those symptoms went away but now I'm noticing that my arms and head feel slightly shaky. Also, I feel like I'm worse at reading and typing. Is it possible to get permanent side effects from one time abuse of adderall?
your son has apparently experienced positive results with Concerta which is a form of methylphenidate, while Adderall is a form of dextroamphetamine (Ritalin and Dexedrine). Frequently the forms of methylphenidate work better for ADHD Hyperactive while the dextroamphetamines work better for the Inattentive.
Which is your son? To compound matters further if he is an "active" young man, is his activity "motor" or "distractablitIy" driven?
I was on Lexapro for 2 years for anxiety (no ADD yet diagnosed) and I felt better, but gained 30 pounds. Now I need to decide what I am comfortable to start taking to deal with the ADD, as it is causing problems at work (no focus, scattered, etc.) Does anyone have any suggestions as to what meds that they were successful with (I know all meds effect people differently, but so I have an idea of whats out there).

I take regular drug test weekly, and within the last 2 months,I have had 2 false postives for opiates ..... I got a confirmation of both test, and they both came up for codeine . The first test 3,000 nanos, the second 6,000 nanos !!!! I am STUNNED !!!!! The only thing that I take is my anxiety meds ( Citilopram,40 MGS) ..... during the first test I took zyertec , and the second an herbal Urinary vit , becuase I thought i had a urinary track infection,which I didnt.....
People assume he is not bright, but in IQ testing, his verbal and nonverbal areas are in the normal range. Executive functioning and working memory are low, so testers dont add the scores because they feel it misleads. Sometimes he is given second chances in testing because he will blurt an incorrect answer before thinking--but knows the right answer. I have noticed when he is on ritalin, there is an improvement with his interacting and he comes across clever.

I was addicted to all pain pills first & foremost but I also got extra stuff week to week that helped "boost" them I guess. Addy or dextroamphetamine was my favorite add on. I have been sober almost 8 weeks now and the emotional roller coaster finally chilled out until today. My son was born with a rare syndrome and it really hasn't hit me until now that he's different. My wife and I have been through numerous surgeries and it somehow didn't bother me.

According to a report by the Los Angeles Times New Service, a study of 161 prescription and over the counter medications showed that 65 of them produced false positive results in the most widely administered urine test.
The combination of drugs, citalopram that is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor and amphetamine and dextroamphetamine that are dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor is not recommended. Amphetamines may possess serotonergic activity and should not be administered with SSRIs as there is an additive risk of serotonin syndrome. Enhanced sympathomimetic effects is possible.
i read that they both are prone to causing gyno but I feel as though i should have noticed the gyno on propeica much sooner than this far out

hi. i have been prescribed adderall before, but the only downfall for me is the comedown. I get all jittery and generally just feel bad.. my friend who is prescribed recommended me dexedrine, he says because it is pure dextroamphetamine and that there are no salts that the comedown isn't as harsh, is this true? i really wanna try this stuff out for my adhd, so how would i go about telling my doctor i would like to try it so i dont end up sounding like i just want drugs?
i am okay, just still very awake and angry at everyone for no apparent reason...thanks for the responses. i was not and have never been an addict but i'd say over the past few months i may have become one? i didnt jump from 10 to 100, it was a slow progression, i just have been doing it now for the past few days and that is a first...i usually take a downer to try to go to sleep which is also terrible, so since it's friday i am trying to wait it out...
(By the way, the right medication, if substance abuse of stimulants is an unmanageable problem for you, may be one of the non-stimulant medications for ADD/ADHD. But keep in mind, the non-stimulants don't work for everybody. But even the stimulants don't work for everybody. You don't say why you are taking Clonidine? Because of your age, I'm going to guess that it's for attention-deficit disorder. One of the side effects of Clonidine can be a sense of shortness of breath.
Vyvanse, another med for ADHD, can also cause shortness of breath.
There is no medication with the name 'dextromaphane,' but there is Dextroamphetamine. Is this what you are taking? It also is used to treat ADHD.
