Common Questions and Answers about Deviated septum surgery and septoplasty

Avatar f tn Yes. I had the septoplasty in 2005. The deviated septum came back on the same side. I am scheduled for a revision in September 2008. There was no accident that caused it. It just noticed in my 20s. Still trying to get even air flow.
Avatar f tn There is absolutely no evidence that a deviated septum leads to oxygenation problems and problems with the heart and lungs. The only reasons to fix your deviated septum would be 1) you are finding it difficult to breathe through your nose 2) you have sleep apnea and fixing your septum may help with CPAP compliance 3) you are having severe, difficult to treat nosebleeds 4) you are looking for cosmetic rhinoplasty (of which a septoplasty may be a part).
1452978 tn?1285110262 Has anyone had the sinus surgery and it helped the dizziness, off balance, and lightheaded feeling. I am have a deviated septum that is being correct. I am nervous I have never had surgery before but I am praying this takes care of the issues. Could someone please share their experiences with me, my surgery is Thursday. Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn Everyone here has deviated septum and had sudden profound hearing loss? Yes?
Avatar m tn For temporary relief, since your septum is deviated to the left, you can lie in bed on your right side and if you notice after 5 min your septum will fall towards the right giving you more breathing room on the left. The question on whether or not you will need to go through the operation would be best suited for your doctor to advise you on.
1023501 tn?1254833158 Well, not only i smy septum still super deviated, but everytime I clean my nose, my septum is bleeding. I clean it with a Q-tip so I don't hurt it, but it's always, always bleeding. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn Just read your posting from six months ago as I explore why I had a severely deviated septum and it struck a chord. I had septoplasty, sinus surgery and turbinate reduction two years ago and it was the best thing I had done for myself in years. Unfortunately, I did not realize my problem until I was in my early 50s after suffering countless sinus infections while dealing with severe environmental allergies that were all diminishing my quality of life.
Avatar n tn So I went to the ENT today and had them stick that scope up my nose and apparently I have a pretty bad deviated septum ... he gave me a script for a nasal spray and an antibiotic but I'm not sure what the antibiotic is for, I don't like taking antibiotics if I don't have to so I'm hesitant to take that. He mentioned surgery but for the possible future ... I'm hoping the nasal spray will help the allergies and the post nasal drip ...
Avatar m tn I'am planning to have sinus surgery (septopasty) to correct a deviated septum and deciding between surgeons. One of the surgeons attaches splints with breathing tubes to each side of the repaired septum, the other surgeon just stitches the 2 sides of the septum together in a procedure called "quilting".
Avatar m tn Accidentally nose middle bone deviated in right side nose and turbinates surgery and please help me for this case. This discussion is related to nose injury to child.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am due to have a septoplasty for a deviated septum and the turbinate reduction surgery the end of March. My left turbinate is swollen on the side of the deviation. I have had coblation surgery (where they use Radio-frequency to shrink the turbinate). We only shrunk the front of my inferior turbinate. This did well for about 19 months (until I caught a cold back at Thanksgiving). Then the swelling started all over again- now in the back part of my turbinate.
Avatar f tn Septoplasty for deviated septum and coblation of the turbinates My teenage son had this as outpatient surgery two days ago. Day one was pretty rough, so keep current on those painkillers. His doctor's advice; use bags of frozen peas instead of ice packs - they mold to the face better. The cold really helps. He also told me to get an over the counter spray called "simply saline" to spray right in the nose to keep it moist.
Avatar n tn Wow same with just had septoplasty done i had a deviated septium and bone spur and polyps and narrowing of passages snd enlarge turbinites. And so i had the surgery done. You thinking having all that fixed id be better nope i think it brought my allergys to surface and thier constant we both need help i think .
Avatar f tn but after I was crying for a really long time a few days ago (2+ hours) I’ve noticed on the left side of my face (which is where my deviated septum is pointed towards.) that i feel pressure and ear pressure etc on that side. Which then i noticed a annoying slightly cold air feeling when breathing in. Now i usually only notice it when i’m hyper focused on it and there’s rare occasion where i’ve been distracted recently and didn’t notice it at all.
Avatar m tn i began to worry about my health i started researching about my problem in the internet and found out that i have deviated septum. but still not 100% sure about it so i also consulted an ENT. it took me almost half of my life to determine the problem in my nose that had altered my life. I had my deviated septum fix but didnt fix it 100% as they informed me that it may take 2 operation to entirely fix it as it was completely deviated to the left and its all crooked up to the back of my nose.
Avatar n tn I have been getting sinus infections for about 3.5 years now and they're only getting worse. My CT scan was negative for chronic sinusitis but showed a slight deviated septum with a bone spur. The congestion was not in my sinuses but rather in my upper nasal cavity. My nose isn't realIy runny but I get a ton of post nasal drip that makes me feel as though I am drowning. I got allergy testing done and I am not allergic to anything.
Avatar n tn What is more, I went to an ENT just weeks ago in 2018, had a CT scan of the sinuses done, and the ENT tells me that the result is that I have a deviated septum, AGAIN, and will need a repeat surgery for that and to shave down the turbinates. This is ridiculous. I cannot have a septoplasty every 10 years, and furthermore, it accomplished nothing and relieved none of my symptoms the first time! I feel like these forums are pretty useless as well.
Avatar n tn Having that said you do have sinus disease in one sinus cavity, but not a massive amount. You had stated you have a deviated septum and those are things to just ignore and wish it away. With the Sinuse Surgery the doctor would be able to correct this problem along with a good clean out of all sinus cavities. I believe you would a great amount of releif after a sinus surgery. I know I was amazed at how well I could breath and that I didn't have chronic sinus pain all day.
Avatar m tn m sort of leaning towards going for surgery, because the CT scan also showed that I have a deviated nasal septum that has been giving me a lot of breathing problems for a lot of my life (it was misdiagnosed as hay fever), that I would like to have fixed with another surgery - and the ENT specialist said that I can have the 2 surgeries together, which will save me some time and trouble.
Avatar f tn Hi guys.. so my heart goes out to everyone who'se dealing with these symptoms.. because they are enough to really disable someone.. this has been going on for over 3 years now and it's just gotten severely worse this past year.. I just saw an ENT because of the constant pressure/fullness with both ears, nose is constantly clogged.. and sometimes it switches.. ENT only told me I had a deviated septum and that he didn't beleive in surgery..
Avatar n tn I had surgery to straighten a deviated septum, straighten the nose, and open it up some, but the turbinates were apparently left intact - this at age 17. Had the runny nose and congestion before. That was improved afterward and I had 5 or so good years, then the opposite problem of tooo-dry nose-sinuses started to set in and it's been beating me up for about 25 years now.
Avatar m tn CT Scan is not a requirement to diagnose a deviated septum at most places, usually the doctor just examines the septum under light himself.
Avatar n tn I have a few things. First does anyone know what SAA means? I had septoplasty surgery for a deviated septum and they had a dx of "SAA" pre and post op from my specimen of septum. Second, I have the same headaches that Efyl and Sammie4529 describe. I did have a CT and cysts in my maxillary, spehnoid (which seems to be the pain that some get in their eyes from), ethionoid (spelling) and other things. I also get those deep eye pains. I went to my physical.....no relife...........
Avatar f tn If indeed I have sleep apnea, then would you say it is best to treat that before attempting to fix the deviated septum. My deviated septum did not give me any problems until 2 years back when I developed the forward head. Are there any laser septoplasty methods?
Avatar f tn Please, can you tell me what can be a reason for huge swellings in cheaks and nose after septoplasty and mucotomia? The second day under the tampoons my nose started to swell and during pulling it out I got considering bleeding that I had to be tamponated again. Now, two month after the operation still have the same even worse swelling from the root of thee nose and all around eyes and cheaks. What to do and where to find help for this problem and cause?Thank you.
Avatar n tn The septoplasty or rhinoplasty for deviated nasal septum (DNS) will help you to relieve your symptoms. I suggest you to consult ENT surgeon for further management. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn I went back to the CT scan radiologist and said does that mean septum is straight as I cant have a deviated septum in 1998 and a central (straight ) septum in 2009. I was told the top Dr at the radiologist (In Australia) will look at the scan and advise me. So does central mean straight? I have had this sinus (icecream type headache) over my eyes and cheeks for about a month now. Sinus tablets and sprays hasnt helped.
Avatar f tn Having surgery to correct deviated septum, septoplasty, turbiinate reduction and remove polyps/cysts found on CT scans. Headaches are horrible, pressure on my nose and upper teeth is almost unbearable at times....dealt with this a long time...but finally after ongoing sinus infection for the past 10 months I gave up and gave in to having this surgery which I am very nervous about. Hoping these next 3 weeks pass by quickly so I don't back out again on having it all fixed.
