Avatar f tn Has anyone else experienced hearing loss or impairment with problems associated with deviated septums or nasal spurs? I have a deviated septum that has been giving me a lot of nasal blockage feelings and breathing difficulty. My hearing has also gotten worse..which coincidentally has been a genetic thing in my family.....so is the deviated septum..... I have problems with fluid in my ears as well as what they say is neural hearing loss based on my hearing tests..
Avatar n tn I have had four surgeries over 7 years for cosmetic reasons on my deviated septum. The last time I had surgery I was warned that I may be left wth nasal drip due to the amount of procedures I have had...I accepted this and after my last operation in May 2008 I have had nasal drip which is aggrevated by dust and pollen etc I keep this at bay with cetirizine hydrocholride.
Avatar m tn surgery to remove my polyp/cist, reduce my turbinate and straighten my septum. He figures the reason for my total lack of smell is due to my nose being so blocked that nothing can get to my smelling glands/receptors. From what I've seen on this forum and by looking at the internet, this type of surgery is usually for people who have trouble breathing, which thankfully at the moment, I don't have.
Avatar m tn m not sure if thats really the issue. I did go to a doctor and he said I have a deviated Septum, and this may be whats causing the odor. However I hardly ever have trouble breathing, again unless I'm sick, i do snore but it does not keep me up at night. My questions are: Is this true? Could a deviated septum be the cause of this odor? Will corrective surgery help? Is it the only option? I'm going for a second opinion today and will post once I hear the results.
4556201 tn?1356445652 Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. In Elementary school, I fractured my nose pretty bad. Then in my early teens, I realized I had a 'bump' on the bridge, & a deviated septum. The 'bump' is caused by 2 super sharp bones sticking out. (It's so extreme/sharp that family & friends I let touch it were *all* really shocked by it, & assured me it was*not* normal.
Avatar f tn My doctor made the opening to my maxillary sinuses to be about the size of a quarter. He also fixed my deviated septum and cleared out some polyps. After the surgery I had many complications and was unable to breathe out of my nose for quite some time. The doctor said it was due to my nasal passages being super sensitive (I couldn't even use a saline solution without them swelling up.) Also, my nose creates a mucus that is the consistancy of egg whites.
Avatar m tn Hi...I see your post is from 2 months ago, but maybe your still there. Your wife is not alone. I too am extremely hypersensitive to smell ever since I was pregnant with my son (12 years ago!), and it bothers the heck out of me! It's very hard to go to the mall--I can smell everyone as they walk by as if I had my nose right up to them! I also work as a correctional officer, and I'm sure you could imagine the awful smells there!
538090 tn?1213808112 My question to you is, is it common for both nostrils to get congested at the same time because of deviated septum or my flu and bronchitis plays a role in it? I haven't been sleeping for over three weeks because of that and is developing anxiety and is afraid to go to bed. Since my surgery date is in September, I would like you to help me to regain my sanity and restore some sleep.
Avatar m tn First of all you need to find out whether you really have fungal infection or not. Smell of mushrooms could be due to old pus and secretions in the nasal sinuses or even due to post nasal drip. Chronic sinusitis is often allergic and can be due to mold infection too. A damp wall in the house, carpets, and ACs are all potential sources of mold. Please consult an allergy specialist. You may need to take the allergy test. Chronic sinusitis can also be due to EBV infection.
563774 tn?1216292918 As such loss of smell and taste have not been reported with vicks vaporub. They are due to various other pathologies. But if you are getting addicted to Vicks, then pls stop it. Regards and take care.
Avatar f tn If the nurse swabbed you up to your deviated septum, then it could be either two things. It could be a CSF leak or an infection of your deviated septum. Most likely it is an infection caused by the nurse shoving that swab deep up in there, going into your deviated septum, and ripped open a blood vessel. All you can do is take some antibiotics, or see a ENT doctor for further analysis.
Avatar m tn | And I would like to know if that would be easy to fix it and what would it cost in Canada! And I just uploaded pics on my profile! Thanks!
Avatar m tn i now suffer from chronic infections, nasal pain, my septom is terrible(he ruined it), constant pressure in my face(worse during the fall, winter and spring), constant swelling, horrible allergies, constant nasal drip in my throat, lungs and nose, chronic headaches 24/7, dizziness, nausea, lung infections, throat infections, severe nerve pain in my face(cheeks, nose, eyes, jaw, ears, neck, head and teeth), loss of taste and smell most days, and just miserable.
Avatar m tn year 2001 When i started working, i had my physical/medical exam everything went OK. since medical exams doesnt include xrays/ctscan of the head the deviated septum was not detected, so i was unaware that something in me was wrong. year 2004 when i visited a dentist to extract my tooth, the dentist notice that my jaw is locking and my 2 front upper teeth is not align in the midline of my nose, so i was advised to have dental braces, due to finances i didnt bother to have it.
Avatar n tn I had surgery to straighten a deviated septum, straighten the nose, and open it up some, but the turbinates were apparently left intact - this at age 17. Had the runny nose and congestion before. That was improved afterward and I had 5 or so good years, then the opposite problem of tooo-dry nose-sinuses started to set in and it's been beating me up for about 25 years now.
Avatar f tn As it is found in some researches that deviated septum can cause disordered breathing during sleep.
189372 tn?1219833358 Here are my symptoms, I would like to know if all of these could be associated with a deviated septum, I would love to know of people with similar symptoms who are going to have the surgery or who already have had surgery, and of course anyone else that wants to comment.

Avatar f tn I'm probably late in the game on responding to this, but I just came across your posting and want to give you some insight regarding the damage cocaine does to your nose. My d/o/c was cocaine for about 1 year straight. Keep in mind, I never did drugs for 30 years..and only went nuts for 1 year.
1329703 tn?1275158081 I have a deviated septum that was found when my allergy shots started working but I still couldn't breathe through my nose. I also have mild sinus issues with them clogging and a mild infection (normally my immune system gets it under control within a week or so). I have the surgery in a couple of weeks so I can't comment on the long term affects yet but I'm hopeful it will help!
876847 tn?1240239287 It can be due to allergic nasal polyps or tumors, allergic reactions, deviated nasal septum, trauma to the face, respiratory tract infections, allergies such as hay fever, immune system cells or cystic fibrosis. It is important to find out the cause of chronic sinusitis as then specific treatment can be started. For that the diagnosis of sinusitis or sinus infection has to be confirmed.
