2058275 tn?1330706149 Assuming you are referring to a deviated NASAL septum (FYI there is a region of the heart called the septum), the answer is POSSIBLY. A deviated nasal septum, when severe, could impair normal respiratory pattern. In some cases this has led to loud snoring and even obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA could cause inadequate oxygenation during sleep, putting extra stress on the heart, which has been linked to the development and worsening of atrial fibrillation (AF).
Avatar m tn Hi, its unlikely that a deviated septum can cause dizziness. Deviated septum can cause problems with breathing, as it causes nasal blockage. Your symptoms of dizziness and lightheadedness, if are relieved by eating something, indicate that you might be having episodes of hypoglycemia. Inadequate sleep can also cause tiredness, fatigue and dizziness. Other causes for these symptoms are inner ear infections; brain disorders heart problems, fever, stress, low blood pressure and anxiety.
Avatar m tn Well, if you want to get rid of the extra mucous in your sinuses you can do salt water irrigations. I do them all every time I have an infection or think I'm going to have one, as it does clean your sinuses up fairly well. Use a large syringe (60 ml) that I got from my ENT and fill it up with salt water (1/2 tsp of equal amounts of salt and baking soda). I hang over the sink and squirt it up each side of my nostrils till stuff comes out. Gross I know, but effective. The surgery is not fun.
Avatar n tn I know surgery is an option for the deviated septum. But will my nose ever not hurt again??? It also causes so much pressure in my ears that it has aggravated my TMJ. Sure wish I knew then what I know now...
Avatar f tn It could also be due to a deviated nasal septum. Sinus infection causes blockage of flow especially when a person lies down. The blockade is affected by the side to which the person turns also. You will need to consult your primary care physician for proper assessment. In the meantime practice good breathing exercises, humidify your room and do steam inhalations. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
402205 tn?1230481005 I had a CT and it showed a lot of nasal congestion but very little sinus. It also showed a slightly deviated septum and nasal polyps on the middle turbinate. What do you suggest I do?
Avatar m tn If you saw the detailed anatomy of all the tiny canals of the ears and nose and eyes, you would be very impressed that we don't have more problems. It sounds like you have a deviated septum, which is more a bony problem than cartilage problem. Deviated septum can cause ear problems. You could try putting a solution of witch hazel and tea tree oil into the ear with an eye dropper for relief. It will clean out the ear.
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, such symptoms are usually seen with nasal blockage and result in minimal mucus secretion leading to dryness of nose. The common causes for such nasal blockage, including nasal polyps and sinus infection. Deviated nasal septum (DNS) can also leads to obstruction. The sinus infection also leads to headache. Another important but rare possibility is Sjögren's syndrome. This is a rare disorder and is also associated with dryness of mouth and eye.
Avatar m tn For temporary relief, since your septum is deviated to the left, you can lie in bed on your right side and if you notice after 5 min your septum will fall towards the right giving you more breathing room on the left. The question on whether or not you will need to go through the operation would be best suited for your doctor to advise you on.
1387175 tn?1326400997 I went through that with my father and two trips to the ER. It was horrible. He did have a deviated septum and was taking aspirin. The last visit, the ER doc actually had to do a cauterization. He also used to use a nasal spray daily and that may have aggravated the condition Has your mother seen an ENT doctor? If not, I suggest she do so.
846812 tn?1239034209 Maxillary sinusitis does cause cheek pain. Ethmoid sinusitis causes nose pain. Deviated nasal septum can be surgically corrected and will reduce your symptoms.Steam inhalation before bed time, raising the head end of bed, drinking plenty of hot fluids and doing deep breathing exercises too will help. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your ENT about surgery of DNS and surgical drainage of sinuses.
Avatar n tn Avis you are right i think, I always say deviated, but i guess it's called perforated. Ok so i have a perforated septum, that sounds much better. I think it took about 4 years for this to happen to me and yes, a lot of money in blow, yuck. I hope you take our advice and stop now.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have a severely deviated septum on the left side and was getting a Covid swab by an overzealous nurse. She poked me all the way up the left side where my septum was deviated, felt resistance and kept going. I felt a sudden bout of pain and she finally retracted the swab. Two days later I wake up with clear salty liquid dripping down my throat. I also have a massive daily headache, eye pressure and sensitivity to light.
Avatar m tn However, I am somewhat reluctant to go through the expected operation, for fear that the side affects of the operation could make my sinuses more vulnerable to infection in future years. Could you describe what is involved in treating a deviated septum? What are the drawbacks to this operation? Thanks again for your time.
Avatar m tn Getting the deviated septum fixed may help with the phelgm. The infected phelgm and mucus could be draining down your throat and causing the chronic bronchitis because the body is unable to fully clear the infection since there is constant mucus drainage. The lungs then are reacting to the high level of inflammatory and immune system cells present and thus causing the constriction and asthma symptoms.
Avatar m tn I have a deviated septum. I've been searching on google for a while now and I think my case is one of the most deviated septum ever seen :| And I would like to know if that would be easy to fix it and what would it cost in Canada! And I just uploaded pics on my profile! Thanks!
Avatar f tn Deviated septum cause low oxygen in the body and it may leads to digits clubbing due to low oxygen in the body are this both related deviated septum and low oxygen
538090 tn?1213808112 My husband had surgery for his deviated septum along with turbine reduction. It seems he broke his nose in highschool, while playing basketball, and didn't realize it. The tissue grew too much inside his nose and started to cause him to have several sinus infections over the years. The congestion your are getting may be due to the affected tissue swelling because of your flu or bronchitis. The surgery will help clear your breathing passage and give you some relief.
Avatar m tn i began to worry about my health i started researching about my problem in the internet and found out that i have deviated septum. but still not 100% sure about it so i also consulted an ENT. it took me almost half of my life to determine the problem in my nose that had altered my life. I had my deviated septum fix but didnt fix it 100% as they informed me that it may take 2 operation to entirely fix it as it was completely deviated to the left and its all crooked up to the back of my nose.
Avatar n tn Nose bleeding can also be seen due to hereditary, dry nose, lower vit k levels, some foreign body, superficial veins, rhinitis secondary to deviated septum (seems to be relevant) etc. Sometime veins are superficial and any minor harm to nose causes bleeding. When nose start bleeding you need to sit rather than sleep, as sleeping causes increase in pressure inside head and cause more bleeding also pinch the lower smooth area of nose to prevent more blood loss. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn I catch a bug every 3-4 weeks like clockwork. These viruses I usually pick up from my school aged children, who are better in a day or two. For me the illness develops into a sinus and ear infection along with a bronchitis or pnuemonia. It takes about two weeks along with antibiotics and steroids before I can feel somewhat normal. Then two weeks later the process starts again. I only work part time, and am still constantly unable to work because I'm so sick.
Avatar f tn Hello, I wanted to know the risksof having a deviated septum fixed. I had this problem for over 10 years and it seems to keep coming back. I had it fix twice before. I am noticing that the cartilage in my nose seems less so I am concerned. I don't want to have to keep getting surgery to correct my deviated septum. Is there any other options (besides nose sprays)?
4556201 tn?1356445652 Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. In Elementary school, I fractured my nose pretty bad. Then in my early teens, I realized I had a 'bump' on the bridge, & a deviated septum. The 'bump' is caused by 2 super sharp bones sticking out. (It's so extreme/sharp that family & friends I let touch it were *all* really shocked by it, & assured me it was*not* normal.
