Well, if you want to get rid of the extra mucous in your sinuses you can do salt water irrigations. I do them all every time I have an infection or think I'm going to have one, as it does clean your sinuses up fairly well. Use a large syringe (60 ml) that I got from my ENT and fill it up with salt water (1/2 tsp of equal amounts of salt and baking soda). I hang over the sink and squirt it up each side of my nostrils till stuff comes out. Gross I know, but effective. The surgery is not fun.

I know surgery is an option for the deviated septum. But will my nose ever not hurt again??? It also causes so much pressure in my ears that it has aggravated my TMJ. Sure wish I knew then what I know now...

You could try putting a solution of witch hazel and tea tree oil into the ear with an eye dropper for relief. It will clean out the ear.

Avis you are right i think, I always say deviated, but i guess it's called perforated. Ok so i have a perforated septum, that sounds much better. I think it took about 4 years for this to happen to me and yes, a lot of money in blow, yuck. I hope you take our advice and stop now.

Hi, I have a severely deviated septum on the left side and was getting a Covid swab by an overzealous nurse. She poked me all the way up the left side where my septum was deviated, felt resistance and kept going. I felt a sudden bout of pain and she finally retracted the swab. Two days later I wake up with clear salty liquid dripping down my throat. I also have a massive daily headache, eye pressure and sensitivity to light.

However, I am somewhat reluctant to go through the expected operation, for fear that the side affects of the operation could make my sinuses more vulnerable to infection in future years. I catch a bug every 3-4 weeks like clockwork. These viruses I usually pick up from my school aged children, who are better in a day or two. For me the illness develops into a sinus and ear infection along with a bronchitis or pnuemonia. It takes about two weeks along with antibiotics and steroids before I can feel somewhat normal. Then two weeks later the process starts again. I only work part time, and am still constantly unable to work because I'm so sick.

Hello, I wanted to know the risksof having a deviated septum fixed. I had this problem for over 10 years and it seems to keep coming back. I had it fix twice before. I am noticing that the cartilage in my nose seems less so I am concerned. I don't want to have to keep getting surgery to correct my deviated septum. Is there any other options (besides nose sprays)?

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. In Elementary school, I fractured my nose pretty bad. Then in my early teens, I realized I had a 'bump' on the bridge, & a deviated septum. The 'bump' is caused by 2 super sharp bones sticking out. (It's so extreme/sharp that family & friends I let touch it were *all* really shocked by it, & assured me it was*not* normal.
