Deviated septum and turbinate surgery recovery

Common Questions and Answers about Deviated septum and turbinate surgery recovery

Avatar m tn Hi, I am due to have a septoplasty for a deviated septum and the turbinate reduction surgery the end of March. My left turbinate is swollen on the side of the deviation. I have had coblation surgery (where they use Radio-frequency to shrink the turbinate). We only shrunk the front of my inferior turbinate. This did well for about 19 months (until I caught a cold back at Thanksgiving). Then the swelling started all over again- now in the back part of my turbinate.
Avatar m tn I finally saw an ENT and he saw I have a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates and concha bellus. My ENT wants to correct the septum and reduce turbinates and remove concha belluse sinuses.. I chose to only have my turbinates reduces with local anesthetic, I think it still puts me to sleep and he's going to reduce turbinates using heated catherisation.. I'm a little nervous to have this down because I've heard of empty nose syndrome and also potential sideffects..
Avatar n tn I would like some input as I am having turbinate reduction surgery w/a septoplasty next week. The left turbinate is swollen and blocking my left nose. I also have a deviated septum to that side too. I had the coblation procedure done to the front part of my left turbinate in April of 2006 but it wasn't enough. It lasted for about 19 months and then I started having probelms again after I caught a cold. Therefore, I have opted to have surgery...
538090 tn?1213808112 If anyone had a deviated septum and turbinate reduction done only ? Please write and let me know how long is the recovery time and what I need to do to prepare myself. Is it painful and uncomfortable and if so, for how long? My doctor did not order any Cat Scan for me and I wonder if he thinks it is not that serious for me to do so. Sorry laaz, got little side track. Anyway, you take great care of yourself and I hope you will resolve your problem sooner rather than later.
402205 tn?1230481005 I had a CT and it showed a lot of nasal congestion but very little sinus. It also showed a slightly deviated septum and nasal polyps on the middle turbinate. What do you suggest I do?
Avatar m tn Accidentally nose middle bone deviated in right side nose and turbinates surgery and please help me for this case. This discussion is related to nose injury to child.
Avatar m tn I was told to go back for a CT scan and yesterday I was shocked to be told that I have a deviated septum (S shape), either a nasal cyst or polyp, and one turbinate significantly larger than the other. The ENT specialist has recommended an "all in one" surgery to remove my polyp/cist, reduce my turbinate and straighten my septum. He figures the reason for my total lack of smell is due to my nose being so blocked that nothing can get to my smelling glands/receptors.
Avatar m tn The ENT told me I had deviated septum causing 90%blockage on right side of my nose. I also had enlarged turbinate tissue, as well as enlarged soft palate. I am awaiting insurance approval to set surgery date to correct septum and turbinate issues, as well as removal of tonsils, and removal of soft palate tissue and reconstruction of my uvula. What can I expect as far as recovery time and pain for all of this together? I know it's going to be quite painful.
679481 tn?1226444296 The concha bullosa of the middle turbinate or the deviated nasal septum, may be the reason, as your ENT feels. One can say this for sure only after 'surgery' for the same. Your low grade fever is not explained, though. The other option is to wait and see, as the CT and MRI are okay.
Avatar f tn Just read your posting from six months ago as I explore why I had a severely deviated septum and it struck a chord. I had septoplasty, sinus surgery and turbinate reduction two years ago and it was the best thing I had done for myself in years. Unfortunately, I did not realize my problem until I was in my early 50s after suffering countless sinus infections while dealing with severe environmental allergies that were all diminishing my quality of life.
Avatar f tn Septoplasty for deviated septum and coblation of the turbinates My teenage son had this as outpatient surgery two days ago. Day one was pretty rough, so keep current on those painkillers. His doctor's advice; use bags of frozen peas instead of ice packs - they mold to the face better. The cold really helps. He also told me to get an over the counter spray called "simply saline" to spray right in the nose to keep it moist.
Avatar m tn I did change ENT doctors since my turbinate surgery. He also did not correctly do my deviated septum and he damaged a nasal valve in the process. Since then it has been corrected but still have a smell. Also the smell is only on the left side. Right side no smell at all. I have had a cat scan and nothing shows up. Thinking of changing doctors again since he does not feel odor is a problem.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I'm new to this community. I have thyroid issues. Well in September I had deviated septum surgery, and turbinate reduction surgery. Since I had the surgery I've had internal tremors in my chest area. I've taken magnesium but it has not helped. I've also tried atenolol to no avail. Any ideas? I will post this in cardiology also. Just trying all areas. Thanks for any help.
Avatar n tn I had surgery to straighten a deviated septum, straighten the nose, and open it up some, but the turbinates were apparently left intact - this at age 17. Had the runny nose and congestion before. That was improved afterward and I had 5 or so good years, then the opposite problem of tooo-dry nose-sinuses started to set in and it's been beating me up for about 25 years now.
Avatar n tn I believed them to be sinus related and had two surgeries to correct a deviated septum and balloon my sinuses. After each surgery, I noticed worsening burning nasal pain and dental pain that would come and go with changes in temperature or humidity. The ENTs I saw assured me I would feel better but I never did. After seeing an endodontist for the dental pain I narrowed it down to nerve pain, some variation of Charlin's Sydrome or nasal neuralgia.
Avatar f tn while im on the subject, how much bleeding post surgery. and how long is recovery. everyone is different. but maybe just an idea how long.
Avatar n tn Wow same with just had septoplasty done i had a deviated septium and bone spur and polyps and narrowing of passages snd enlarge turbinites. And so i had the surgery done. You thinking having all that fixed id be better nope i think it brought my allergys to surface and thier constant we both need help i think .
Avatar n tn I would not recommend snorting any more coke tho
Avatar n tn m post two and a half weeks since my deviated septum surgery and whereas before my right nostril would get completely blocked with a not painful but very annoying hard pressure inside my nose (more to the right) now my right nose still has this constant pressure that's not going away although my breathing is alright now. Is this something that's normal or do most people who have sinus surgeries feel completely normal and not feel any pressure whatsoever in their nose after a while?
Avatar m tn I'am planning to have sinus surgery (septopasty) to correct a deviated septum and deciding between surgeons. One of the surgeons attaches splints with breathing tubes to each side of the repaired septum, the other surgeon just stitches the 2 sides of the septum together in a procedure called "quilting".
Avatar f tn Had sinus sugery 4 days ago (fixed deviated septum, right turbinate reduction, sinus drainage hole enlarged). Gum pain is a lot worse than the sinus surgery pain in nose/sinuses. General anesthesia caused 3 ulcers, the one on gum-line hasn't healed, very painful, seemed to be the trigger. (Some numbing, tingling under top teeth from surgery but can deal with that.
Avatar m tn m sort of leaning towards going for surgery, because the CT scan also showed that I have a deviated nasal septum that has been giving me a lot of breathing problems for a lot of my life (it was misdiagnosed as hay fever), that I would like to have fixed with another surgery - and the ENT specialist said that I can have the 2 surgeries together, which will save me some time and trouble.
Avatar f tn I have to lay on my right side at night to be able to breath out of my left nostrile. My ENT said I need to have the deviated septum fixed with surgery and have the turbinate coterised. I feel alot of pressure at the top of my nose all of the time and I have never had a throbbing headache for days like I have lately. I have been taking Aleve D Cold and SInus during the day and Tylenol cold and sinus at night and that has been helping the throbbing headache and pressure.
Avatar n tn What is more, I went to an ENT just weeks ago in 2018, had a CT scan of the sinuses done, and the ENT tells me that the result is that I have a deviated septum, AGAIN, and will need a repeat surgery for that and to shave down the turbinates. This is ridiculous. I cannot have a septoplasty every 10 years, and furthermore, it accomplished nothing and relieved none of my symptoms the first time! I feel like these forums are pretty useless as well.
Avatar m tn I saw my ENT doctor this morning and she showed the result of CT scan. Indeed I have Deviated Septum and she suggests me to be operated. This Deviated Septum explains excessive mucus in my throat. However, I am still wandering if it causes some bloody mucus in my throat in the morning. For that I worry about my lungs.
Avatar n tn The last one was an ENT, he did a Turbinate Reduction with deviated septum because I also have Apnea. He was going to do additional throat surgery but said my last sleep study didn't support the surgery and didn't think it would be worthwhile.
