Avatar m tn Hi, I am due to have a septoplasty for a deviated septum and the turbinate reduction surgery the end of March. My left turbinate is swollen on the side of the deviation. I have had coblation surgery (where they use Radio-frequency to shrink the turbinate). We only shrunk the front of my inferior turbinate. This did well for about 19 months (until I caught a cold back at Thanksgiving). Then the swelling started all over again- now in the back part of my turbinate.
Avatar m tn I finally saw an ENT and he saw I have a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates and concha bellus. My ENT wants to correct the septum and reduce turbinates and remove concha belluse sinuses.. I chose to only have my turbinates reduces with local anesthetic, I think it still puts me to sleep and he's going to reduce turbinates using heated catherisation.. I'm a little nervous to have this down because I've heard of empty nose syndrome and also potential sideffects..
Avatar n tn hya read about your bone and just to say my son had septoplasty and terbinate reuction in april and its now august and his turbinate reduction side stinks like corpses and he still gets weird gunk and green scabs out a lot especially in the morning we thought this wasnt right and went to see another ent he had alook and said it was due to an unhealed bone and that it probably wouldnt heal now and would need an op he doesnt want an operation did your ent say how long this would take to heal wi
Avatar m tn I had a turbinate reduction 18months ago and i still have a odor coming from my left nostril. I have been on antibiotics and nasel saline rinses and nothing helps. Is there something my ENT could have done wrong during surgery to have caused this?
Avatar m tn Regardless of doubt by my ENT(s), I opted for Turbinate Reduction and Septoplasty, believing it may have been a deviated septum causing a pinched nerve. It's been 2 years since the Turbinate Reduction / Septoplasty . Strangely, I don't remember it having a significant or even any impact on my headaches, yet the decongestants do. The pain itself is mostly mild to moderate and more of a throbbing feeling than a sharp one.
538090 tn?1213808112 Tony, You sure need to be careful about getting a deviated septum fixed along with turbinate reduction. I had a deviated septum fixed along with my sinuses opened back in 2004 . Its been a nightmare for me. I'd gladly take what I had back before surgery. My turbinates were not touched. Please take a look at the following site before getting any kind of nasal surgery, especially turb reduction. Not telling you what to do, and I'm not a doctor.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I'm new to this community. I have thyroid issues. Well in September I had deviated septum surgery, and turbinate reduction surgery. Since I had the surgery I've had internal tremors in my chest area. I've taken magnesium but it has not helped. I've also tried atenolol to no avail. Any ideas? I will post this in cardiology also. Just trying all areas. Thanks for any help.
Avatar f tn Just read your posting from six months ago as I explore why I had a severely deviated septum and it struck a chord. I had septoplasty, sinus surgery and turbinate reduction two years ago and it was the best thing I had done for myself in years. Unfortunately, I did not realize my problem until I was in my early 50s after suffering countless sinus infections while dealing with severe environmental allergies that were all diminishing my quality of life.
402205 tn?1230481005 I had a CT and it showed a lot of nasal congestion but very little sinus. It also showed a slightly deviated septum and nasal polyps on the middle turbinate. What do you suggest I do?
Avatar m tn Because of the risk of Empty Nose Syndrome and Atrophic Rhinitis, one embarks on turbinate reduction only if necessary and that too in a limited way. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I did have a nasal septoplasty with turbinate reduction done in 2008 to correct the deviated septum, however I experienced no relief from this, and have not had the crackling issues in my ears go away at all. What is more, I went to an ENT just weeks ago in 2018, had a CT scan of the sinuses done, and the ENT tells me that the result is that I have a deviated septum, AGAIN, and will need a repeat surgery for that and to shave down the turbinates. This is ridiculous.
679481 tn?1226444296 The concha bullosa of the middle turbinate or the deviated nasal septum, may be the reason, as your ENT feels. One can say this for sure only after 'surgery' for the same. Your low grade fever is not explained, though. The other option is to wait and see, as the CT and MRI are okay.
Avatar n tn The last one was an ENT, he did a Turbinate Reduction with deviated septum because I also have Apnea. He was going to do additional throat surgery but said my last sleep study didn't support the surgery and didn't think it would be worthwhile.
Avatar f tn Had sinus sugery 4 days ago (fixed deviated septum, right turbinate reduction, sinus drainage hole enlarged). Gum pain is a lot worse than the sinus surgery pain in nose/sinuses. General anesthesia caused 3 ulcers, the one on gum-line hasn't healed, very painful, seemed to be the trigger. (Some numbing, tingling under top teeth from surgery but can deal with that.
Avatar m tn I was told to go back for a CT scan and yesterday I was shocked to be told that I have a deviated septum (S shape), either a nasal cyst or polyp, and one turbinate significantly larger than the other. The ENT specialist has recommended an "all in one" surgery to remove my polyp/cist, reduce my turbinate and straighten my septum. He figures the reason for my total lack of smell is due to my nose being so blocked that nothing can get to my smelling glands/receptors.
Avatar f tn I was a chronic sinus sufferer and had severe sinus headaches and pressure and trouble breathing through my nose. Had an MRI and was told by ENT I had enlarged turbinates. So I had Turbinate Reduction Surgery about 7 weeks ago, went with the Coblation method, because it was less invasive. The procedure was a snap had very little problems until about 2 weeks after the procedure. My lymph nodes in my neck and under my chin started swelling.
Avatar m tn Accidentally nose middle bone deviated in right side nose and turbinates surgery and please help me for this case. This discussion is related to nose injury to child.
Avatar m tn Hi mklarson, Yes, I think I'll return to my ENT and ask about getting a turbinate reduction. I'm in Canada, so not sure if that Qnasl spray is available here yet for prescription. I do already sleep with 2 or 3 pillows and I've actually elevated the front of my mattress so I'm lying on sort of an angle. I had an allergy test done in October 2014 where they tested me for about 40 things and everything came up negative, so they ruled out any allergy issues for me.
Avatar n tn I had the deviated septum and reduced turbinate surgery 3 days ago. Today is the 4th day, but I still can not breath totally with my nose. It opens only about 50%. I had to sleep opened-mouth all these days, terrible. It looks like no recovery at all .......I am scared go to bed.
Avatar f tn Went for a second one to clean up the mess and fix the septum. Still had some minor problems after that and saw the top ENT specialist in the province and he uses fibre optic technology. It is amazing the clarity which he could see in your sinuses. He took out some scar tissue and a bony shelf. Now like I said, I"m down to a reasonable amount of infections per year. Cleansing the sinuses is very important. You should be irrigating them for many weeks if you want to see positive effects.
Avatar m tn I finally visited a ENT for my allergies and he noticed I have a deviated septum and large turbinates. Is it normal to breath from one nostril at a time with the other cometly blocked or is that an indication of imflamation in the sinuses. I do get alot of nasle poping everymorning and its like good relief when they pop. I can never have both nostriles cometley open. My symptoms are dizzyness, sneezing the minute I walk outdoors and hedachs in the temples. and top part of the head.
1139187 tn?1355706647 Hi, it could be related. The septal deviation and turbinate swelling could cause problems with drainage from the sinuses. And the turbinate swelling could be due to chronic congestion in the nose. Inflammation in the nose and sinuses can cause inflammation around the Eustachian tube, which is the tube that runs from the back of the nose to the middle ear and is responsible for draining the middle ear of fluid.
Avatar f tn Septoplasty for deviated septum and coblation of the turbinates My teenage son had this as outpatient surgery two days ago. Day one was pretty rough, so keep current on those painkillers. His doctor's advice; use bags of frozen peas instead of ice packs - they mold to the face better. The cold really helps. He also told me to get an over the counter spray called "simply saline" to spray right in the nose to keep it moist.
Avatar n tn I had Turbinate reduction sinus surgery two months ago, my nose is sensitive when I breath, the colder the air the more it hurts, I don't have any other issues, other than this burning sensation/pain I'm breathing fine, Do I have Empty nose Syndrome or will this pain eventually go away?
Avatar n tn I believed them to be sinus related and had two surgeries to correct a deviated septum and balloon my sinuses. After each surgery, I noticed worsening burning nasal pain and dental pain that would come and go with changes in temperature or humidity. The ENTs I saw assured me I would feel better but I never did. After seeing an endodontist for the dental pain I narrowed it down to nerve pain, some variation of Charlin's Sydrome or nasal neuralgia.
Avatar m tn Turbinate reduction was my concern too after reading up on it.I spoke to the surgeon on the day of surgery and expressed my concern and he said he was'nt a big fan of turbinate reduction/removal anyway and would only do if neccessary.I told him i would prefer a turbinate over-fracture which means just push them aside to clear the airways and thankfully thats what he did.
