Avatar f tn There is absolutely no evidence that a deviated septum leads to oxygenation problems and problems with the heart and lungs. The only reasons to fix your deviated septum would be 1) you are finding it difficult to breathe through your nose 2) you have sleep apnea and fixing your septum may help with CPAP compliance 3) you are having severe, difficult to treat nosebleeds 4) you are looking for cosmetic rhinoplasty (of which a septoplasty may be a part).

Avatar f tn Everyone here has deviated septum and had sudden profound hearing loss? Yes?
Avatar f tn I just had septoplasty and sinus surgery last Wed. Too early to tell about the success, but the only way to cure a deviated septum is surgery. I never get the easy stuff!!!
Avatar f tn The surgeon preformed cartage alternations (open surgery) in order to straight up the nose and some major tip ‘job’. After 10 month the tip of the nose still very swollen and the nose is still asymmetric. I have trouble to breathe and I’m making strange noises while tiring. There is a hole in my cartage that goes through and its very disturbing. I am very unhappy with the results. The surgeon said that he will perform the revision operation but I don’t trust him anymore after what he’s done.
Avatar f tn m pleased with the results, it looks better now than prior. But, ever since surgery my left nostril is runny, my septum is now deviated and the nostrils are not even. There's also a scar where she cut the nose open. I don't regret doing it but it's important to be prepared that it might not get perfect. Andi don't want to go back in and try to even things out, I've heard that particularly noses are very fragil and repeat surgery can be devastating.
Avatar n tn Over the years I have broken my nose several times from a variety of activities ranging from accidents, street football and martial arts. Naturally this has created issues such as a deviated septum and so forth. I knew the septum was deviated and finally after fracturing it again in december, I started to have the left side of my nose collapse with heavy inhalations. Looking up my nose you could see that the left side was very narrow to begin with while the right side was wide open.
Avatar n tn The septoplasty or rhinoplasty for deviated nasal septum (DNS) will help you to relieve your symptoms. I suggest you to consult ENT surgeon for further management. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn I have had previous surgery, approximately 6 years ago, for infections caused by allergic rhinitis and the overuse of Otrivin Nasal Spray. I also have a deviated septum, but chose not to have this fixed at the same time, as it was too costly.
Avatar m tn The common causes for such nasal blockage, including nasal polyps and sinus infection. Deviated nasal septum (DNS) can also leads to obstruction. The sinus infection also leads to headache. Another important but rare possibility is Sjögren's syndrome. This is a rare disorder and is also associated with dryness of mouth and eye. You need to undergo detailed examination of nose and radiography of the sinuses to rule out existing sinusitis.
Avatar m tn The septoplasty or rhinoplasty for deviated nasal septum (DNS) will help you to relieve your symptoms. If sinusitis cannot be managed with medication; surgical drainage would be definitive therapy. I suggest you to consult ENT surgeon for further management. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Nose bleeding may be seen due to hereditary, dry nose, lower vit k levels, some foreign body, superficial veins, rhinitis secondary to deviated septum (seems to be relevant) etc. Sometime veins are superficial and any minor harm to nose causes bleeding. When nose start bleeding you need to sit rather than sleep, as sleeping causes increase in pressure inside head and cause more bleeding also pinch the lower smooth area of nose to prevent more blood loss.
Avatar f tn Hello, Rhinoplasty is not without side effects and it includes infection, injury, bleeding, skin problems, including breakdown of skin tissue (skin necrosis) and irritation from the tape and bandaging and serious nasal blockage caused by swelling inside the nose. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
1329703 tn?1275158081 I have a deviated septum that was found when my allergy shots started working but I still couldn't breathe through my nose. I also have mild sinus issues with them clogging and a mild infection (normally my immune system gets it under control within a week or so). I have the surgery in a couple of weeks so I can't comment on the long term affects yet but I'm hopeful it will help!
Avatar m tn Hi, I just had surgery thursday evening to fix my deviated septum, remove cysts in my sinus cavity, treat my sinus infection, and some rhinoplasty to also increase breathing efficiency. After the surgery, I noticed something tickling the back of my throat and feeling foreign/odd. After inspecting it at home with a flashlight, I can tell that some phlegm or clearish looking substance has attached to my tonsil and is aggravating my throat.
Avatar f tn s called sterorhinoplasty last summer now next surgery coming up is to fix a ightly sldeviated septum. I really have to have the septum fixed as my breathing has not been clear or 100% for years, since I broke my nose. Any advice is welcome!
Avatar m tn My dietary advice still stands, but there is nothing about the diet that can fix a deviated septum. If the deviated septum is preventing you from breathing properly during sleep, then I think you should do what you need to do to get it fixed. Then you can ALSO address systemic inflammation, if you are still having symptoms. Again, best of luck.
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, the important causes needed to be ruled out are Deviated nasal septum (DNS) and allergic rhinitis. These conditions can lead to sinus infection, ear infection and headaches. Other possibilities are laryngeal web, asthma, any structural abnormalities in the nasal passage such as nasal polyps, hypertrophied turbinates etc. Recurrent infection is sign of low immunity. You need to increase immunity by proper nutritious food, regular exercise, mental fitness etc.
Avatar m tn I have noticed that the sit of my nose where my deviated septum had been seems to still be significantly inflamed and that the generalized area around where the maxillary sinus would be hurts as well. Perhaps the most annoying, is the fact that my upper left molars kill. is this likely just residual inflammation from the surgery itself? i do know there was a good amount of infection in the left maxillary prior to my surgery, so wondering if this is just aggravated by the surgery.
Avatar f tn Hello, I wanted to know the risksof having a deviated septum fixed. I had this problem for over 10 years and it seems to keep coming back. I had it fix twice before. I am noticing that the cartilage in my nose seems less so I am concerned. I don't want to have to keep getting surgery to correct my deviated septum. Is there any other options (besides nose sprays)?
Avatar f tn The headaches were also on the left side due to pressure from the clogged nostril. He told me I had a deviated septum. I scheduled surgery that day because he said he could fix my problem and make it easier to breathe. Well he did make it easier to breathe out of the clogged side, but he moved the septum too far and now I cannot breathe out of what was my "good" side. My headaches are worse than they were before the surgery.
Avatar f tn Hi, a deviated nasal septum can cause an obstruction to breathing and correction will ensure that your symptoms will improve. But this may not help correct the post nasal drip. Post nasal drip could be due to a sinus infection, a cold or a chronic allergy. These can lead to a post nasal drip and lead to an irritation in the throat. It could be sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Post nasal drip could also be due to allergens.
538090 tn?1213808112 Truth be told, laaz, I am not too sure how serious my condition is - whether I have swollen turbinates from vasomotor rhinitis or not. All I can tell you is I was diagnosed with deviated septum and needs surgery to correct them along with turbinate reduction. I definitely know that I don't have any allergies or sinuses that I am aware of nor do I take medications for any sickness.
Avatar n tn So I went to the ENT today and had them stick that scope up my nose and apparently I have a pretty bad deviated septum ... he gave me a script for a nasal spray and an antibiotic but I'm not sure what the antibiotic is for, I don't like taking antibiotics if I don't have to so I'm hesitant to take that. He mentioned surgery but for the possible future ... I'm hoping the nasal spray will help the allergies and the post nasal drip ...
Avatar f tn Hi there - I had revision rhinoplasty on may 4th and it seems like my problems before have worsened. Due to my first rhinoplasty, my septum became deviated to the right and I had a large bump on the left side of my tip making my nose look like an 's'. I thought I was clear that I wanted my nose straightened and the bump reduced - I did not want to wake up with a completely different nose - but now my nose is shorter, thinner and it makes the problem even more noticeable.
