1079895 tn?1256047206 I had nasal polyp surgery in 2000; he also corrected a severely deviated septum and that made a huge difference. He put me on Zyrtec D and nasal spray; In addition I wash my sinus with a mild saline solution everyday. I stopped the nasal spray after a year or so, too many nose bleeds and I found Zyrtec to be addictive, when I stopped taking it, my hands itch and I get itchy spots on my body. This lasts for a few days and then goes away. I have not taken it in a year and feel much better.
Avatar n tn I have had four surgeries over 7 years for cosmetic reasons on my deviated septum. The last time I had surgery I was warned that I may be left wth nasal drip due to the amount of procedures I have had...I accepted this and after my last operation in May 2008 I have had nasal drip which is aggrevated by dust and pollen etc I keep this at bay with cetirizine hydrocholride.
Avatar m tn I've been diagnost with a deviated septum and excercised induced astma and was wondering if any one had septum fixed? Would it help with sinus infections and breathing for asthma? Any deviated septum repair stories out there?
Avatar m tn surgery to remove my polyp/cist, reduce my turbinate and straighten my septum. He figures the reason for my total lack of smell is due to my nose being so blocked that nothing can get to my smelling glands/receptors. From what I've seen on this forum and by looking at the internet, this type of surgery is usually for people who have trouble breathing, which thankfully at the moment, I don't have.
Avatar m tn m not sure if thats really the issue. I did go to a doctor and he said I have a deviated Septum, and this may be whats causing the odor. However I hardly ever have trouble breathing, again unless I'm sick, i do snore but it does not keep me up at night. My questions are: Is this true? Could a deviated septum be the cause of this odor? Will corrective surgery help? Is it the only option? I'm going for a second opinion today and will post once I hear the results.
Avatar m tn i now suffer from chronic infections, nasal pain, my septom is terrible(he ruined it), constant pressure in my face(worse during the fall, winter and spring), constant swelling, horrible allergies, constant nasal drip in my throat, lungs and nose, chronic headaches 24/7, dizziness, nausea, lung infections, throat infections, severe nerve pain in my face(cheeks, nose, eyes, jaw, ears, neck, head and teeth), loss of taste and smell most days, and just miserable.
Avatar f tn My doctor made the opening to my maxillary sinuses to be about the size of a quarter. He also fixed my deviated septum and cleared out some polyps. After the surgery I had many complications and was unable to breathe out of my nose for quite some time. The doctor said it was due to my nasal passages being super sensitive (I couldn't even use a saline solution without them swelling up.) Also, my nose creates a mucus that is the consistancy of egg whites.
Avatar m tn m sure you could imagine the awful smells there! I even had a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates and was stuffy most of the time, but I could still smell every scent as though my face was right in it. Anyway, 2 weeks ago I had surgery to repair my septum and reduce my turbinates so I could breathe through my nose again, and since then I haven't been able to smell much.
Avatar m tn My strong feeling is that since the septum is deviated the opening are small and they get blocked easily when the blood vessels in my nose become swollen due to irritants or blowing. I want to make a point here. My nose gets blocked my stuff in my nose and also due to swollen blood vessels. Blowing removes the stuff in my nose but irritates my nose and the blood vessels become swollen. So there will still be blockage in my nose and hence not much relief. 4.

538090 tn?1213808112 After I was diagnosed with Deviated Septum, I have had no trouble breathing until a bout of flu and bronchitis hit me some four weeks ago. This really made my life a living hell and I searched and searched in the net to see what I can do to get relief. So much so that I visited my doctors 4-6 times within that span. I am a very healthy 49 years man (knock on woods) and barely visit or take medications.
Avatar m tn For temporary relief, since your septum is deviated to the left, you can lie in bed on your right side and if you notice after 5 min your septum will fall towards the right giving you more breathing room on the left. The question on whether or not you will need to go through the operation would be best suited for your doctor to advise you on.
Avatar m tn First of all you need to find out whether you really have fungal infection or not. Smell of mushrooms could be due to old pus and secretions in the nasal sinuses or even due to post nasal drip. Chronic sinusitis is often allergic and can be due to mold infection too. A damp wall in the house, carpets, and ACs are all potential sources of mold. Please consult an allergy specialist. You may need to take the allergy test. Chronic sinusitis can also be due to EBV infection.
563774 tn?1216292918 As such loss of smell and taste have not been reported with vicks vaporub. They are due to various other pathologies. But if you are getting addicted to Vicks, then pls stop it. Regards and take care.
Avatar n tn Cognitive dysfunction or brain fog may present with loss of intellectual functions such as thinking, remembering, and reasoning that may interfere with daily functioning. There are a number of medical or psychiatric conditions associated with this condition such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and sleep disorders, including disrupted sleep. You may benefit from further evaluation by a sleep specialist and recent imaging studies like CT scan or MRI of your head and neck.
Avatar m tn My dietary advice still stands, but there is nothing about the diet that can fix a deviated septum. If the deviated septum is preventing you from breathing properly during sleep, then I think you should do what you need to do to get it fixed. Then you can ALSO address systemic inflammation, if you are still having symptoms. Again, best of luck.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have a severely deviated septum on the left side and was getting a Covid swab by an overzealous nurse. She poked me all the way up the left side where my septum was deviated, felt resistance and kept going. I felt a sudden bout of pain and she finally retracted the swab. Two days later I wake up with clear salty liquid dripping down my throat. I also have a massive daily headache, eye pressure and sensitivity to light.
Avatar m tn | And I would like to know if that would be easy to fix it and what would it cost in Canada! And I just uploaded pics on my profile! Thanks!
Avatar n tn A combination of chronic allergy and a deviated nasal septum could also be causing your symptoms of sinusitis. Resolving these issues might help reduce your symptoms. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I had a septoplasty in the summer to repair my badly deviated septum. I now wake up alert and full of energy for the first time in my life and school is a breeze. I had so many problems that I thought for sure it could not be related to my sinuses. ALL of them were. I feel like my life before the surgery was just wasted because I didn't function at half the level I now do.
Avatar n tn when i was 17 i had the hottest girlfriend you could possibly dream of and then i swear to god as soon as i turned 18 my nose actually got bigger. i got in a fight and i broke my nose and i had a deviated septum. the doctor told me he recommends surgery and i was soo happy cuz i thought my nose would be beautiful again, but actually after the surgery it looks pretty much the same.
Avatar f tn As it is found in some researches that deviated septum can cause disordered breathing during sleep.
189372 tn?1219833358 Here are my symptoms, I would like to know if all of these could be associated with a deviated septum, I would love to know of people with similar symptoms who are going to have the surgery or who already have had surgery, and of course anyone else that wants to comment.
