Avatar m tn Regarding the MM, I read an article (several yrs ago) from some medical outfit, and as I recall, they stated that the MM improved the rate of therapy completion- it helped people tolerate the Tx and complete the treatment. In any case, it isn't available (or legal) here in Maryland. But if push comes to shove I could probably obtain a lid. (does that date me? hahaha) Seriously, is this (medical marijuana) something that is accepted to treat appetite, nausea and anxiety?
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
Avatar n tn I have severe depression and anxiety...both of which are treatment resistant. The physical and mental symptoms of my anxiety and depression are horrible. I have taken almost every single anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medication out there...SSRIs, SNRIs, atypicals, etc. My internist actually has noted that I am allergic to a number of SSRIs because of the extreme aggression and disorientation it they have caused me.
Avatar n tn So I've suffered with depression, anxiety, and anger issues from the age of 12. I went through some very traumatic things in my early adolescent years and have unfortunately carried them into adulthood. I'm now 21 years old and feel so helpless and out of control over my own life. I come from a very poor family and my father abused drugs and alcohol. He used to beat on my mother in front of me and my siblings.
151263 tn?1243377877 Initially I was somewhat underweight as I was during treatment. I started treatment at 185lbs, dropped to about 168lbs during treatment, and then finished off about 175lbs. During that time my body composition changed though, I lost muscle mass and gained body fat around my belly. They call it “intra-abdominal” fat. It’s where fat collects around your organs and trunk and it’s especially unhealthy for you. Well that’s what seemed to happen to me.
Avatar n tn 02 Suicidal thoughts, It is imperative that you inform your psychiatrist about your suicidal ideation - these thoughts are not uncommon in people suffering from depression. I do not know how long you have been on Effexor and Remeron. Antidepressants may take up to 6-8 weeks before you feel their full beneficial effects. Your psychiatrist may want to increase your doses of Effexor and Remeron, or try other antidepressants if the ones you are on have not been helpful.
Avatar n tn Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a safe and effective treatment for major depression, in those patients who have failed adequate antidepressant medication trials, are unable to tolerate antidepressants, are acutely suicidal or homicidal, have severe or psychotic symptoms, or have profound stupor or agitation. This response is provided for general educational purposes only. Always consult your physician for any health concerns.

Avatar n tn The psych said she uses thyroid hormone to treat depression sometimes. I am in Maryland, you are probably not. PCP didn't agree before this and out me on Lexapro. I hope you get some answers! Go to the archives here. Somewhere in Nov-Dec, one member discusses the same thing you are asking. I replied to it, so look for my initials. I'll try to find it for you.
Avatar f tn On my previous treatments, my treatment stopped after 12 weeks, because my virus did not improve as expected. The last treatment (about 4 or 5 years ago) had very little movement. I have medicaid (which is a state/fed subsidized healthcare plan). My depression is being treated with Effexor XR, and is under control. I have never heard of IL28B gene test. I'm afraid it doesn't offer much. I am not as educated about CHC as others seem to be.
135456 tn?1301441224 I was UND at 4 weeks, and I quit the stuff at 25 weeks cuz I had a zillion sx, way beyond the depression stuff. No AD was gonna fix all the cr3p I had going on. Anyway, thanks for the heads-up,.........
Avatar m tn My 21 years old son is addicted to pain killers and wants help but has no insurance or way to pay for treatment he is currently unemployed. Is there any facilities in Southern Maryland that could help him.
915456 tn?1243167321 Hello, I have had bad depression - it is part of lyme - I understand how un-ending pain can cause depression - but don't give up on your health - there are lots of very knowledgeable - caring people here - as patsy said - let 'us' know more about your treatment/diagnosis I have read many stories of people who have been in pain for years - who have found help/relief .
Avatar n tn Generally speaking, using street drugs while on treatment (or any other time) is not a good idea. In addition to the usual reasons for not using street drugs (addiction, possible infections, frying the brain, effects on general physical health, etc.) the drugs could adversely affect treatment by interfering with your strict medication schedule. If you nod out or zone out and miss your medications, that may have an impact on treatment success.
Avatar m tn The fact that the term switch is now used synonymously to encompass both types of mood shifts has led psychiatrists to neglect the study of both spontaneous switches (i.e. non-treatment-related) as well as the transition from mania/hypomania to depression.
Avatar n tn (29) observed anxiety, depression, hysteria and other somatic complaints, which improved with thyroxine treatment. Recently Pop et al. (30) found depression to be significantly related to increased TPOAb levels, but not to subclinical or overt hyper- or hypothyroidism. Nevertheless, the high Odds Ratios (2.9 to 7.9) found by Pop et al. (30) in all these thyroid disorders, even if not statistically significant, are very suggestive.
943354 tn?1257286495 Second, I am a hepatitis C patient and have known that I have it since i was 16 years old and now I am 23. I went through with the Hep C treatment - Interferon and Ribirvron (not sure of the spelling) - from May 2007 until December 2007. That is when i started smoking Marijuana heavily to help with the symptoms. The treatment unfortunately did not work for me and I had to stop it. 649848 tn?1534637300 By JUAN CARLOS LLORCA EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A counselor at the local Veterans Affairs office looked at Rebecca King, a victim of domestic violence and abuse who was seeking help for depression, and told her she would not be able to see a psychologist. She looked too nice and put together for someone depressed, King was told. Like others who've failed to receive help at troubled VA offices, the Army veteran then gave up.
Avatar m tn Considering that I've never even gotten an SVR, I'd be HAPPY just to have it for 6 mon., much less for 9 yrs! If somebody could be SVR for 5 yrs., even that would be 5 yrs of giving your liver a break, 5 yrs of moving on with your life and not having to worry about this virus. 5 yrs of putting liver cancer and liver failure on the back burner for those 5 yrs.
Avatar n tn When chemotherapy treatments begin, you may notice some menopausal symptoms, but usually the symptoms are delayed for several months after treatment is started. This is natural.Menopausal symptoms may last for years after treatment is completed Hope this helps you, and if you are concern I would say speak to your doc. I am thinking that you are no longer in chemo? And are you being followed by a doc?
Avatar m tn depression, anxiety, OCD tendency's, poor concentration and memory, hard to lose weight gain, etc. Essentially, a low quality of life. These have been present since about the age of 12. I have been on different dosages of Adderall and Prozac since that age. I experience symptoms of low testosterone. The mental symptoms are much more prevalent than the physical I first had my testosterone tested: The total was 265. Followed on a second test by: TSH of 2.360, LH of 4.2, FSH of 1.
Avatar m tn These types of diagnostic tests could greatly influence who should or shouldn't pursue treatment at this time. Elimination of the scattershot approach used now for treating to a more targeted one would have profound effects on many aspects of treatment . Most importantly it would result in fewer patients exposed needlessly to IFN/Riba. Anyone who has ever been on tx , or just read about it, can see the great benefit this can have for those with HCV.
Avatar m tn Exercise is important, Studies show that it strengthens the antioxidant systems and releases endorphins (a morphine-like compound) from the brain, which calms the mood and reduces depression. Excessive exercise will increase free radicals and can be harmful. Also, exercising in the late evening can cause insomnia.
Avatar f tn When we went to Johns Hopkins in Maryland, they didn't have an idea and pretty much sent us home. We saw an allergist there and an ENT who spent just a few minutes with us. For the agony and the discord we're in....no one seems to be willing to "take it on". When we went there we thought a team of doctors would talk and discuss...that never happened. We had two appointments with two doctors and that was it...
1166456 tn?1417309137 Bowel and bladder symptoms include frequency of micturition, urine leakage, eye symptoms like double vision uncontrollable rapid eye movements, facial pain, painful muscle spasms, tingling, burning in arms or legs, depression, dizziness, hearing loss, fatigue etc. The treatment is essentially limited to symptomatic therapy so the course of action would not change much whether MS has been diagnosed or not.
Avatar f tn The most common symptoms are, fatigue and low energy, irritability, irritable bowel, unexplained body pain and inflammation, and depression. Does this sound like you or anyone you know? The current medical model is to treat each disease, but never really addresses the underlying cause which is the immune system. Let me say that again because this is really important, the current conventional model to treat autoimmune conditions, does not address the immune system!
4522616 tn?1355858375 I had been seeing numerous psychiatrists since the beginning of this summer, with diagnoses of major depression and generalized anxiety disorder. However, after treatment was not favorable, I was somehow led to have an MRI done in September. The MRI found that I had a microadenoma (6.5mm) on my pituitary gland. After blood tests, it was found to be prolactin producing (it was above the normal range, but not I guess not high enough to be initially concerning).
