Avatar n tn category and so is getting a fair degree of attention these days by the folks down at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Although PANDAS itself is rare, I think, it is getting a lot of attention because whatever therapy can de devised to cure or control it may also work for folks who just have OCD and other disorders -without the strep part- and that, indeed, is a large population.

Avatar m tn I too have been on lithium for approx. 22 years and had little problem unless I stopped taking it or didn't have my blood level tested. But I question your doctor, eventhough you like him and he is a nice guy - nice guys finish last! He should know that lithium over a long period of time will hurt your kidneys and that can be fetal. Sorry but that's true, you don't want to fool around with this problem and you need to see someone who knows the long term effects of lithium..

Avatar f tn Mayo or Cleveland Clinics, USC/Mental Health Dept, or the NIMH, (National Instute of Mental Health) Any of these sites will give you the most definitive list of anxiety/panic symptoms. The list is long. I can reassure you that tingling, muscle tension and numbness are classic symptoms of these disorders. I also understand the fear of our symptoms. ALL of us have many, many symptoms in common, but most of us have one, or more, that REALLY scares us.
Tbd s been any studies of people personally affected by depression. I do know the NIMH states suicide is the 3rd leading cause of fatalities of people between the ages of 13 and 30. I think that tells you its fairly common for young people to be suffering from depression.
Avatar n tn My husband has been battling depression for almost 3 years now. We are newlyweds and are just looking for something that will finally do the trick so that we can enjoy being newlyweds before that phase has passed. He started out on 10mg of Lexapro in October of 2006. It was WONDERFUL for about 6 months until his body got used to it. When he went back to his doctor they switched him to Effexor. It made him very sick and nearly suicidal.
Avatar f tn Hi Peg, Gosh, you sound really frustrated! I am not a Doctor and you'll find that most of us on this Board (if not all of us) are NOT Board certified Psychiatrist nor Doctors. Therefore, we can't tell what's wrong with your Med combinations and why none of them are working any more. You take a fairly high dosage of Zoloft , as well as Wellbutrin, plus I'm not sure what the other meds you're on are for.
Avatar f tn s a lot of medication you are taking and some new meds can do wonders at treating both anxiety and depression like the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor ( SSRI like Cymbalta and Lexapro ) But well if you GP think you need such heavy medication i respect his choice since i don't know you and your condition but you're taking a lot... And as for the Abilify i don't sugest you change that since you might have a schizophrenia and or bi-polar disorder...
Avatar f tn I have been told that Depression can be tested by blood tests to determine the chemical imbalance so that you can be prescribed the correct meds. Is this true?

1562823 tn?1295112132 m surprised that they would want you off of an AD when beginning treatment that could cause depression. You obviously were on it for a reason, depression, so it seems very psychologically risky to take you off of your anti-depressant, start you on drugs that cause depression in a treatment that puts you on a rollercoaster of emotions. I would absolutely be sure that you must be off of it and do it under strict medical monitoring, during and after.
Avatar f tn Iam with mariya on this get a DNA test done and show them and then be done with it..
Avatar f tn d rather be CC genotyped, have the greater risk of depression, but also have a much greater chance of clearing the virus. Most treatment related depression can be dealt with with meds. So I've heard.
