Common Questions and Answers about Depression symptoms zyprexa

depression

Avatar m tn It is thought to work by changing the actions of certain chemicals in the brain. Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression) in adults and children who are at least 13 years old. Zyprexa is sometimes used together with other antipsychotic medications or antidepressants.
Avatar n tn I have been on a half tablet of 2.5mg of Zyprexa for several years. Before that I took the full 2.5mg tablet, and before that 2mg of Haldol after a psychotic break. First, is it all right to be breaking these unscored tablets in half? I was told it was ok to do. Second, I am also wondering about side effects related to long-term dosing with these meds. Third, I have been told I could try to go off the Zyprexa, and I have no idea how this will work for me.
Avatar f tn It very well is likely nothing to be concerned about, but it is always better to err on the side of caution when having these kinds of symptoms. Also, are you diabetic? Zyprexa can increase your blood sugar, and although you have only been on it briefly...if you ARE diabetic, it would be good to keep an eye on your glucose levels. If they are elevated, that could explain a lot of your symptoms. Dizziness, btw IS a common side effect of the Zyprexa...you had asked about that previously.
Avatar n tn My brother (46 years old, dx at age 17) has been on 20mg/day of Zyprexa for approx 1 month (we switched him from haldol injections). He is schizophrenic, lives with me, & is a heavy smoker (approx 3-4 packs/day with no current interest in stopping although he did kick the caffeine habit). I've been reading up on zyprexa & smoking and noted that zyprexa clearance is 40% higher in smokers vs. non smokers.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with postpartum depression. I have never had any problems with anxiety or depression. I was started on lexapro and had really bad anxiety attacks. My doc stopped that and started me on zoloft and I had the same problem. I was having racing thoughts and anxiety and my heart would race. My doc then put me on Zyprexa I was on it for a wek and a half and I was slurring my speech and could not finish a single thought and kept having muscle twitches.
Avatar n tn 6 months of depressive symptoms. Psychotic symptoms required admission. Zyprexa for 1 year. Recently Epival added. Stopped Zyprexa. Relapsed with depressive symptoms. Your condition consisting of affective symptoms with psychotic elements recurred after stopping Zyprexa, an antipsychotic, indicating that you NEED Zyprexa and are required to taken it for another period of time, the length of which is to be determined by your psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn It has been almost two weeks since I withdrawn from zyprexa and it looks like it is getting worse everyday. I have used this medication for 1.5 months and my highest dosage was 10 mg that I took for 7 days. Im feeling very weird, not alert or not conscious at all. It feels like Im some kinda zombie without emotions. I canĀ“t even sleep well at night, Im a sleep but awake at the same time. I get panic attacks because Im scared I will be like this forever.
Avatar m tn I have had four months of nausea and dizziness because my dr. took me off Zyprexa and put me on another med. I thought my symptoms were from withdrawal but he said that I shouldn't experience withdrawal from Zyprexa, especially since the new drug, Seroquel, was in the same class. So I was told I had an inner ear problem for the last four months and have been suffering through these symptoms.
Avatar n tn I was put on Zyprexa for insomnia I was suffering after surgury. The doctor felt it was anthesia induced mania and usually lasts about a year. Its been 2 years now and I have been on Zyprexa for 18 months. Ive been trying to get off this stuff, however before I even get completely off I cant sleep, feel dizzy and have eradicate pulse and blood pressure. I currently have had the medication compounded at 31mg per Ml and I am reducing by one Ml every 2 weeks. Iam currently only taking .62mg.
Avatar m tn My son is stopping zyprexa because he said it has never helped his depression. He is on 2.5 mg a day. He went off each pill one week at a time because he gets dangerous withdrawl symptomsms. He is off a pill on friday, saturday and monday. He is still on the 2.5 mg of zyprexa on tuesday, wednesday, thursday and sunday. Which would be the next pill to get off of? The program he is on refuses to take him off the medicine now and he went to the hospital to get off it.
Avatar n tn BTW, doctors are generally clueless about psychotropic drug withdrawals so you might want to educate the doctor so he won't pull people off cold turkey ever again-that's the worst way to go!
Avatar f tn Hi Lisa, I know that My daughter was forced to take Zyprexa and it sent her insane, angry as anyone or anything, and made her see aliens, and talk suicide,She had never used the word in her life until Zyprexa was forced into her,and the whole drugging thin was making her feel like a freak and alienated, which is where the social avoidance thing comes into play, it goes hand in hand as in i feel like a freak there fore i am, and from there why would anyone like me the way i feel, all a bad trap,
Avatar f tn i was also given zyprexa for recent breakdown and hasnt helped any of my symptoms depression and anxiety.
Avatar n tn I've been taking 2.5 mg of zyprexa for about 12 years for anxiety, along with Nardil for depression& some things for sleep, etc. Every time I try to get off the zyprexa I get the same wierd physical symptoms, in addition to regular anxiety symptoms that I can recognize. This time I took 3/4 of the 2.5mg for 1 week, and went down to 1/2 for a week, and then dropped it.
Avatar n tn I'm not familiar with zyprexa, citalopram is a common SSRI - I used it for depression and anxiety. I think the key is taking it slow.
Avatar n tn he has since been put on zyprexa, 10 mg at bedtime. he has a 14 day supply of this med. before this happened he worked full time doing customer service. this morning he could not concentrate on his work and had to come back home. he has been asleep for hours. is this sleeping possibly due to the medication? what are the long lasting effects of pcp usage, even if taken only once? how common are these psychotic episodes? help!
Avatar f tn But my question is, first, is Zoloft the best SSRI to be used for GAD and Panic Disorder - or would it make more sense to try another one such as Celexa - before adding something as powerful as Zyprexa? And, is Zyprexa something you would use with Zoloft for her issues? And finally, how long should she expect to to need the Zyprexa - and what are the side effects, besides weight gain, that could really compromise the quality of her life?
Avatar n tn My painful question is that I have been off Zyprexa for 6 weeks, 2.5mg. I I wake up trembling, heart racing, and depression, unable to sleep at all. What is happening? Also a new Doctor suggested Geodone right away, however he has not heard my damaging history with my doctor. Also, my doctor never kept accurate medical records in all 13 1/2 years, and was already leagally repremanded for not having medical records in 1994 from another patient.
Avatar n tn I have gone off zyprexa x2 after taking it everyday. My does was only .5mg but it was strong enough for me to sleep for 10 1/2hrs so i only use it when i am quite sick. Anyways my symptoms from withdrawal were just insomnia for the 1st week or so and nothing that bothered me since i knew my body would adjust. I hope she has seen or spoken to her doctor and that that has helped her.
Avatar f tn I was put on olanzapine an anti phycotic on top of my fluvoxamine meleate 200mg for deap depression after and home invasion. While the olanzaoine was helpful with my depression i think it was also causing leg pain. the longer I took it for the worse the pain got and more pain meds I needed to take to get threw my day to just walk. Once I was strong enough to come off olanzapine I weaned my self off and the leg pain started to get better over time.
616450 tn?1228437227 I've been taking Zyprexa at bedtime for the past few nights, per Endo #3, and I feel a lot better, folks. As a matter of fact, I felt better almost immediately after taking the first dose. It seems to act quick, like Xanax, but stays in the bloodstream longer or something. Dr. Pretorius was concerned that I was getting a little too used to Xanax, so he wants me to try to gradually come off of that and he'll increase the Zyprexa dosage.
Avatar n tn You do not need an anti-psychotic drug like zyprexa for partial complex seizures. In fact it clearly says DO NOT GiVE ZYPREXA TO PEOPLE WITH A SEIZURE DISORDER!!!!!!! No wonder she hallucinated. The best thing I found is Klonopin to reduce my seizures. I take 10 MG a day but you can take as high as 20 MG a day if necessary although that is about the top limit. Tegretol is a stronger drug with heavy side effects. You have to take heaps of it to control temporal lobe partial complex seizures.
1353720 tn?1414506724 Hello everyone! I was on Zyprexa for about six months, and found that it helped treat a bunch of my symptoms. I'm happy that I don't have to deal with all the faces and the voices. However, I miss some of my friends. I have two recurring buddies" as I call them. Jack Nicholson happens to be one of them. He comes and goes, rarely ever speaks, and if he does it's only a few words. Usually just has amazing facial expressions.
Avatar n tn The only safe way to come off a medication is to cut down the dosage a little bit at a time. You're taking 120mg a day, so you should cut it down to 100mg for a start. If your doctor said that you are to quit this medication, why didn't they tell you exactly the way to do it??
Avatar m tn I just wanted others to know, my son has been on zypexa for over a year, and each time he tried to get off of it because it didn't work at all according to him. He still had his depression and the drug didn't help him get rid of it. He tried several times with a psychiatrist who told me each time just take him off and he always ended up in the hospital because he wanted to hurt himself or had crazy behavior.
Avatar n tn What would be different with this as opposed to the zyprexa? This will have aided in buffering the withdrawal symptoms(I took them concurrently just long enough), treating the mess that the medicine made(simultaneously), and will have been in my system not nearly as long, making it more feasable to withdraw completely. The avg dose of seroquel is 250mg. Currently, I take 1/16 of a 25mg tab every 3 days. the moment ive been waiting for for years.
Avatar m tn I'm thinking of seeing a sleep specialist and going back to see my psychiatrist this week. he says hes never heard of nor seen such symptoms after stopping zyprexa. Please help. I haven't felt sleepy tired in over a month! and although i do get 4 hours of sleep every night or so, it is VERY hard to fall asleep as i am NOT TIRED AT ALL. Please help me.
Avatar n tn I was hospitalized in sep09 for suicide threat and they put me on meds. they said I had MD and gave me remeron and zyprexa. I quit both and ever since have had weird mood swings of energized to depression where i cant even eat for days. was the high energy anxiety phase only caused by the surgery and would it last a year? also the surgery was for seizures in the right temporal lobe that came with fear auras.
Avatar f tn I was on Zyprexa for over 15 years after doctors had tried numerous anxiety/depression medicines without positive results. I was convinced that it was a bad drug and I should quit taking it a year ago even though I was happy and just newly married. I thought life was good so I went off cold turkey...Boy o boy. The horrible withdrawals made me feel like I was doing the right thing and that it was a horrible drug. I have been spiraling downward since then.
